Course Description

This course will discuss and analyze the fundamental principles


and philosophies of the life of Prophet Muhammad.
Communication styles, ethics and charismatic leadership
characterize the personality of Prophet Muhammad. These
communication styles were exhibited through various episodes
in his social and political life, such as in the military, family and
group interactions with Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Apart
from examining the rhetoric of the speeches and statements of
Prophet Muhammad, This course will also delve into the
childhood life, the intrinsic and extrinsic impact of the preaching
of Prophet Muhammad to humankind in general. Since his values
and moral uprightness built the foundation of the Muslim
religion today, it will be incumbent on the course master to dwell
extensively on the ethical principles of the life of the prophet and
how that ethical principles have affected inter-human relations
worldwide between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to inculcate the principles and


philosophies of the life of Prophet Muhammad. Students will be
able to understand the religion of Islam through the teaching of
Prophet Muhammad. They will also be able to deeply understand
and appreciate the life, trials and hopes of Prophet Muhammad
in seeking peace between oneself, family, community, nation
and the world in general.

Student Outcome

Students are required to successfully complete the course with a


passing grade of C or better. To do this, students are expected to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the course content.
2. Complete each course assignment at the assigned date and
time.
3. Participate in class discussions.
4. Successfully complete course assignments and
examinations.
5. Participate in Readings.

Teaching Modes

This course will use lectures, discussions, videos, and


assignments to provide students with knowledge and experience
in all aspects of Prophet Muhammad’s life and Philosophy.
Students will be expected to conduct individualized research and
contribute to in-class discussions.

Library Requirement

Student who are taking this course are expected to read the
messages of The Prophet Muhammad in the Library. They are
also expected to keep a journal of the life and activities of the
Prophet as well as get copies of the English translated version of
the Quran and the Hadith.

STUDENT/COURSE REQUIREMENTS

1. Attendance and classroom participation are strongly


encouraged. Students are expected to attend all classes and
on time. Except for extraordinary circumstances, absences
will not be tolerated. In the case of the former, the student
has to call or email the professor at least a day before class.
Failure to do this will result in student loss of two points in
class participation points.
2. Students will be expected to read the literature,
recommended texts, journal articles from Ebsco Host or
other databases and contribute to scholarly discussions in
class. These Assigned readings should be completed prior
to class time.
3. An outside work used in assignments must be properly
credited. Appropriate actions will be taken on all types of
academic fraud ( see Graduate Catalog).
4. Assignments must be turned in when due. Penalty for late
submission of assignment is 3 points off from the general
total. All assignments must be typed using APA latest style
format.
