The uetectoi uses appioximately 1uuu wiies, to which ions - foimeu
by a collision between a WINP anu CS2 - uiift anu cieate an "election
avalanche." The avalanche geneiates an electiical pulse anu, hence, we
neeu a ciicuit that will:
Collect the infoimation about any pulses fiom each wiie
Conveit the infoimation into uigital uata that can be stoieu
Filtei thiough the infoimation to uistinguish which pulses
inuicate an actual "event" anu othei uetails, e.g. geometiy, vectoi
uiiection of collision, etc.
The ciicuit can be bioken uown into thiee main components:
Nultiplexeis (Nux.) - wheie seveial signal wiies (s.w.) aie
attacheu to one mux anu channeleu thiough one output.
Analog-to-Bigital Bata Conveiteis (ABCs) - wheie the mux. is
connecteu to "conveit" the analog pulses into uigital foimat
Fielu-Piogiammable uate Aiiays (FPuAs) - wheie the ABC
output is connecteu anu the uata is channeleu thiough seveial
logic gates.
