1.0 SCOPE

2.0 GENERAL REQUIREMNTS

3.0 SURVEY WORK

3.1 Identification Of Existing Control Points

A preliminary survey to identify existing control points shall be carried out and their
correctness ensured.

All such control points shall be demarcated in the area plan.

The nearest available permanent benchmark shall be transferred to the area either on a
permanent feature or on a concrete pillar specifically erected for the purpose.

3.2 Topographical Survey

The topographical survey shall be carried out in the following way.

3.2.1 Horizontal Control

Horizontal control shall be established by one or both of the following :

i. Triangulation

ii. Closed Traverse

Triangulation

The triangulation work shall start from a base line having a minimum length if 100m
in relation to a base point whose coordinates have been established, the accuracies of
linear and angular measurement shall be as per para 7 of cl. no. 2 above.
Before starting the triangulation work, grid pillars shall be constructed on the base
line.

Closed Traverse

The closed traverse shall be set by measurement of angles between two successive
lines. The angles shall be measured with theodolite only. The distance between two
traverse stations shall not be more than 100m.

The cumulative angular error of the closed traverse shall not be more than 30/N
seconds where N is the number of traverse stations. All the traverses shall have an
accuracy of not less than 1:5000.

3.2.2 Vertical Control

Vertical control points shall be fixed by dumpy level on all the triangulation/traverse
stations and shall be closed by coming back to the starting point. The accuracy of the
main control shall be 5k mm where k is the distance in kilometers.

After setting horizontal and vertical control, interfilling may be done either by the
theodolite or by any other means.

4.0 CONTOUR SURVEY

The complete plot area shall be divided into main grids of 50m x 50m and spot levels
observed at every intersection. These grids shall be further subdivided into smaller
grids of 25m x 25m to locate prominent physical feature of the terrain. The field
levels shall be so obtained as to get a contour interval of 0.5m.

Existing structures such as roads (with their centre line co-ordinates, width, berms and
details of any curves), location of storm water drains, culverts, underground pipes and
cables, trees, buildings, electric/telephone poles, transmission towers and overhead
cables, and any other prominent features shall be surveyed and shown on contour
plans.

5.0 PERMANENT PILLARS AND GRID STATIONS, BOUNDARY PILLARS

These shall be constructed of cement concrete or brick/stone masonry work and shall
have the following sizes.

i. Permanent pillars - 1000 x 1000 x 1500mm, with coordinates and RL marked
for future reference. 1 no. pillar shall be provided at each plant site at a
location to be finalised in consultation with client.

ii. Grid stations - 300 x 300 x 1250mm deep (500mm below GL and 750mm
above GL).

iii. Boundary pillars along land acquisition limits at all corners and at 400m
centres on straight boundaries 300 x 300 1000mm deep (500mm below GL
and 500mm above GL).

Permanent pillars and grid stations shall be provided with steel plates 150 x 150 x
10mm embedded in concrete with 12mm dia x 150mm long anchor bolts. These shall
be provided with punch lines and painted with a suitable paint. All grid stations and
pillars shall be numbered for easy identification.

6.0 SURVEY MAPS

The survey maps shall show all relevant information regarding existing structures as
per cl. 4.0, physical terrain, grid system and permanent benchmarks, etc.

Two sets of survey maps shall be prepared as below :

i. Overall layout of the area to a scale of 1:2000 with spot levels at 50m centres
and a contour interval of 0.5m.

ii. Detailed survey maps in 1:1000 scale with spot levels at 25m centres and
contour interval of 0.5m.

The maps shall be drawn in ink on polyester tracing film.

7.0 DOCUMENTATION

The surveying agency shall submit the following documentation to client on
completion of the site survey :

All field books, neatly compiled. Any clarification required on the field books shall be
promptly furnished to client.

Five copies of check prints of the plotted maps for approval by client.

Ten blueprints along with original tracings of each approved polyester map.

All maps prepared by the surveying agency shall be the sole property of client. The
agency shall not use, reproduce, or pass on these to any other party without obtaining
prior written permission from client.
