Every child progresses at an
individual rate depending on
factors such as home
languages spoken and
familiarity with the
sounds of English.

* Teacher led focused tasks
* Independent journaling
* Developing fine motor skills of tool handling through activities
e.g. use of paintbrushes, pencils, crayons and pens.
* English letter formation top-to-bottom, left-to-right
orientation
* Stand-alone and integrated into the Unit of Inquiry
* Hands on learning and exploration of quantity, shapes and
proportions
* Focus groups and independent tasks
* Practice and consolidation of early number experiences
* Students work at their ability and mixed ability levels within the
class
* Daily 40 min lessons
* At start of school, Y1 students taught together (4 groups)
General introduction whilst teachers assess students, get to know them
* Divided into CNL (Chinese Native Language) and CFL (Chinese Foreign
Language) groups based on:
-Chinese is a home language
-experience and exposure to Chinese
* All Y1s learn traditional script (as it is the script in HK)
* All learn 4 Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing within CFL or
CNL Scope & Sequence

* Swimming (Terms 1 and 3) parent help needed to escort children to
and from the pool
* Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) developing balance, strength and
coordination parent help needed to support each activity in the
rotation
* Competitive Sports Day in Spring team events and a few races.
* After-school activities Asia-Pacific Soccer, Gymnastics twice weekly.
* Students to arrive at school in kit on PE days. White trainers only.

each parent/carer before the child is allowed to leave.

* 8.10am - Teachers will be on the playground. Please be on
time bringing your children to school.
* 8.15am - Classes will go upstairs with their teachers.
* 2.55pm - Bus children will be dismissed to the bus by the AT.
Please make sure your child knows that they are on the bus so
they are not looking for you.
* 3.00pm - Home time! Be ready to greet the children in the
playground. Dont forget to say bye to the teacher!
