About us
We offer Early Years education for 2 - 5 years olds in a village hall setting & are registered as an
educational Charity, relying on fees, nursery funding for 2 - 5 year olds from the government and
fundraising as our main sources of income. The money covers the cost of materials & equipment for
the children in our care, staff salaries, training, hire of our premises, insurance and heating. We have a
lovely large outdoor play area, on both hardstanding and grass, which the children have access to
during the day.
We occasionally have outside visits to the park, local farms or the Rowdy Cow and are involved in joint
activities at All Saints church with the primary school, such as Easter & Christmas.
Our Objectives
to enhance the social, emotional, intellectual, creative, language and physical development of
Pre-School children in a parent-involving-community based group
to learn through fun and play
to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment
to provide a specially-tailored curriculum for the group and the individual child within the framework of
the Early Years Foundation Stage and following the PSLA philosophy of Learning through Play.
to work within a framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families, within
which each child can function to the best of his/her abilities
to maintain a high adult-to-child ratio to achieve this objective, and to provide for the specialised needs
of a child of this age
to maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and offer parents as much involvement in the
progress of their child and the running of Pre-School as they wish
to function as part of the wider community
to be a source of advice & liaison, a meeting point for parents and to be a springboard for children to
venture into the wider world.

four children aged under 3 years.
The Keyworker System
Under the Keyworker system, each member of staff has particular responsibility for a small group of
children. The Keyworker monitors the childrens learning and development, using observations and
record keeping. Parents / carers are also encouraged to share their own observations of their childs
progress with the Keyworker. The Keyworker will liaise with the parents / carers of each child to ensure
that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.
Special Needs
Children with special needs are welcome at our Pre-School, and they are admitted after consultation
between their parents and the staff. To meet a childs specifc needs, we liaise with all the necessary
specialists and agencies, including therapists, paediatricians, health visitors, social workers and
Portage workers. Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Jo Warman - Playleader.
The Early Years Foundation stage
From birth to 5 years old your child is within the Foundation Stage which ends when they complete their
Reception year at school. It is divided into four areas: The Unique Child, Positive Relationships,
Enabling Environments and Learning and Development.
Within Learning and Development are:
1. Personal, social and emotional development - developing confdence and independence while
learning to concentrate and enjoy sharing as part of a group;
2. Communication and language - communicating with one another and developing skills in talking,
listening, reading and writing;
3. Physical development - improving control and co-ordination of their bodies while learning to move
and handle equipment.
Specifc areas include:
Literacy: reading/writing
Mathematics: numbers, shapes, measuring
Understanding the World: people & the world
Expressive Arts & Design and Technology: exploring media and materials, imagination
Learning through play
Play provides situations in which physical and mental skills can be practised. Activities can be
repeated as many times as necessary so that children gain confdence until skills are mastered. Play
also allows children to explore their potential and limitations. At Pre-School, we aim to offer an
environment that is challenging, supportive and safe, so that children have the opportunity to
communicate, explore, practise, think creatively and express their feelings while having FUN and being
themselves. All children are supported in developing their skills at their own pace.
Joining our Pre-School
Children can enter the Pre-School at the beginning of the term after their second birthday. This may be
deferred to the following term if their birthday is in the holidays however this is at the discretion of the
committee and Playleader in the best interests of child and parent.
Taster Sessions
All parents are very welcome to attend all or part of a session at any time. When your child frst joins
the Pre-School, we encourage you to stay for as long as you like to provide the essential support that
s/he will need at frst. It will be a new adventure for your child, and the length of time s/he will need to
adapt is impossible to predict.
Please note you are welcome to attend Pre-School with your child for up to three sessions before she/
he actually starts.
To register your child or change their sessions, please contact the Admissions Secretary at
info@allcanningsPre-School.co.uk or on 01380 860171

Monday - Friday 9.00 - 12.45
This includes a supervised lunch (hot lunches are available at an extra cost or children can bring a
packed lunch). Lunch is optional and parents may collect their children at 12.15.
The Pre-School year
The Pre-School year is divided into six terms and occasionally the Pre-School may be closed during
the term to allow time for staff training and parents will be notifed well in advance of training days. The
timing of holidays and training days is in keeping with those set by All Cannings Primary School.
Funding & Fees
The bills for a terms fees are sent to parents at the start of every term & these should be paid within the
frst two weeks. In some circumstances, you may spread payments but this should be discussed with the
Admissions Secretary. We regret that we are unable to make refunds for any sessions your child misses.
At present, the cost per session is:
2 year olds: 4.65 per hour

3/4 year olds: 4.25 per hour
Fees usually increase in April and the rate charged for 3/4 year olds increases in line with the Nursery
Education Grant.
3-Year-Old Funding
If your child is entitled to a Nursery Education Grant from the government, you will be asked each term
to sign a declaration indicating the sessions your child attends. The Pre-School will then apply for the
relevant funding. The grant covers up to 15 hours per week, so you will be charged for any additional
time your child attends in the week, but children may just attend for their grant-funded time. This cur-
rently equates to 4 full morning sessions. (9.00 - 12.45)
