form Act Advisory Commission for the federal courts in the Middle District of Florida.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
ADR is an exercise through which community based disputes are resolved by facilitated negotiation, mediation, and
arbitration. ADR often proceeds or replaces formal court proceedings and may include processes designed to manage
community tensions. ADR processes are less formal than judicial process and do not have extensive documentation of
formal proceedings. ADR increases access and facilitates solutions for citizens who are intimidated by or are unable to
participate in more formal judicial systems. ADR is concerned with equality. This is particularly important in societies
in which citizen do not receive fair justice under the formal legal system.

Tampa Bay Chapter
President’s Message
Itʹs great to be back‐and what a busy first month has it been! We have been busy performing an audit of the
books and finances of the Chapter. This was a grueling task for 2006 because of the nature of the activities. And $6,100
was sent from the UN Day Program and other donations to Dr. Jalalʹs Foundation in Afghanistan for training of women
in the medical profession.
As for future meetings, for the month of March our plans include a new location of the St Petersburg College Epicenter
just off Ulmerton Road (Route 688) at 58 th St N. Itʹs easily accessible from I‐275. I think youʹll like the facilities. Our aim
is to try and provide quality programs for our Regular Monthly Meetings for our members and guests. As you become
more comfortable and familiar with our activities, we invite you to talk to one of our officers to become active in one of
our committees. There again, with each of us doing a small amount, collectively it will mean a lot.
On a collective whole, starting with the officers and directors, remember the Work‐Wisdom‐Wealth expression
that the Facilitator discussed at our Strategic Planning meeting on Jan 13 with 20 of the 25 board members present. She
said that each board member was expected to bring at least one of those qualities to his/her board position. Some might
even bring two or three. In our case just about everyone needs to assume one or more tasks to spread the work. Not
many of us want to lean on the wealth angle. But even there, each of us will have the opportunity of getting sponsors.
Remember, as a team we become a lot more effective and strong in the cause for UNA and the UN.
A final note…many of us remember the expression that former President Kennedy made famous: ʺAsk not what
your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.ʺ The same can be said to the members of UNA,
even right within our chapter. Try saying it substituting ʺTampa Bay Chapter UNA‐USAʺ for ʺyour country.ʺ Itʹs a chal‐
lenging thought, and it may change your perspective. Paul Yingst
