Yanke says the fsh will at least be the legally catchable size of 8 long, with some trophy fsh stocked as well to heighten fsher interest. Oregons Free Fishing Weekend June 7-8 will trigger the stocking of fsh in many select locations, including popular Marr Pond in Enterprise. Starting before Memorial Day, rainbow were being stocked at two-week intervals in Wallowa Lake, Yanke says. He notes that the end of stocking rainbow in Wallowa Lake, like ODFWs Wallowa County fsh stocking program as a whole, occurs by mid-August. Kinney Lake, about eight miles from Joseph, is stocked with rainbow three times a year, in May, June and July. By Rich Rautenstrauch Wallowa County Chieftain The three-school Cubs softball team won its first- round playoff game against Santiam Christian last Wednesday, May 28, be- fore traveling to Dayton for a quarterfinal match-up on Friday, May 30. The Cubs lost the latter game, ending their season. Playing against Santiam the Cubs came from five runs down to beat the Eagles 6-5. The Dayton Pirates han- dled the Cubs 14-1. Wednesdays game start- ed out a little slow for the Cubs with the Eagles scor- ing the first five runs. San- tiam scored one in the top of the first inning, another run in the second and three more runs in the in the fourth. The score was 5-0 going into the bottom of the fourth when Amy Edison singled and Macey Frei followed with a two-run homer. In the bot- tom of the fifth the Cubs scored three more runs. Ed- ison batted in one run on a fielders choice and Cal- lyn Stewart knocked in two more with a double. The Minor (ages 7-9) and Major (ages 10-12) girls All Stars will advance to tour- nament play June 23-28 in Union, and the boys All Stars (ages 9-10 for Minors and 10- 12 for Majors) will advance to tournament play June 30 July 4 in Pendleton. And the oldest of those two former records was set 27 years ago by the young- est daughter of Millers track coach, John Roberts. Running at the Oregon State Middle School Cham- pionships last Saturday in La Pine, Miller ticked more than two seconds off her schools longstanding record set by Samantha Roberts Smith. In winning that race, Miller was clocked in 2:32.23, be- neath Smiths prior record of 2:34.7. One week earlier, on Fri- day, May 23, Miller crossed the fnish line in the 1500-me- ter event while competing in the highly competitive Meet of Champions in Corvallis in another Joseph junior high school record time of 5:00.96.
