The Estes Park Board of Realtors had their annual bowling tournament on Fri-

day, May 16 at Chippers Lanes. They had a great turnout from Realtors and
the affiliates. Everyone enjoyed bowling and pizza compliments of Poppys Piz-
za. Area businesses and sponsors (over 50 of them) helped with support and
prizes. Due to the generosity of these folks, and everyone who attended and
bought raffle tickets, the tournament raised $4,250 for Crossroads Ministry
for Flood Relief. Show above is EPBOR president Mike Richardson presenting
the check to Virgil Good of Crossroads Ministry.

most acclaimed science-fic-

Next week, the second
installment in the series
continues with a showing
of the original 1968 version

Based on a French novel

astronauts (Charlton
Heston) learns carefully to
avoid the liabilities of being
a subservient species. The
million dollar makeup for
the apes won a special

The sci-fi creations in the
series were designed to be

the laws of our land against
the bad guys.
Of course us kids immedi-
ately knew who the bad guys
were. They had a sneer, a
bad attitude, were generally
either very unkempt or were
too well dressed and coiffed.
They were a bad lot. You
could see right away they
were evil clear though and
the hero had to eventually
either fight him, arrest him
or have a showdown with
him.
Fortunately the good guy
was an amazing pistol shot.
He could either shoot the
gun out of the bad guys
hand, or wound him in the
shoulder.
WHEWW, it was tough to
be a good guy. They had to
be smart enough to figure
out who the bad guy was,
think ahead of the game and
trap him, and then be athlet-
ic enough to jump on his
horse as it was running, not
lose either of his guns, and
catch the bad guy. And know
the terrain, especially the
short cuts.
The hero was a great
judge of horseflesh. His
horse had to be absolutely
beautiful. It had to have great
stamina and be strong
enough to carry a silver
mounted saddle, breast col-
lar and a bridle with silver on
the reins.The bit Gene used
on Champion was made of
two pistols, fully loaded. I
remember seeing him take
one off the headstall and use
it to apprehend the bad guy.
The horse had to be the
fastest in the whole wide
world, yet calm enough to let
the hero carry a guitar and
sing, with an orchestra hid-
den somewhere in the sage-
brush accompanying him or
her. Wow, no wonder we all
wanted to have a Trigger,
Champion, Topper, Butter-
milk or Koko of our own.
The bad guys horses were
amazingly slow. It was obvi-
ous the bad guys didnt know
a good horse. Theyd be half
a mile ahead of the hero and
the heros horse could catch
them. Theyd jumped off
their horse, knock the bad
guy off his and have a good
rousing fight. Occasionally
our hero would lose, if it was
early in the movie.
Any of the heros horses
could have won the triple
crown, no doubt.
Ill be playing the music
those heroes sang at Coffee
On The Rocks this Thursday,
from 5 to 7 p.m., and at Estes
Park Feed on Saturday, for
their after flood re-opening,
starting at noon.
