1. Is there correlation between height(x) and weight(y)? We are going to analyze the
correlation, if any, between height and weight to determine what the numbers mean and
have to do with each other in this study.

2. Our hypothesis is that height and weight are directly proportional; as height increases,
weight will increase also. We think that the taller someone is the more they are going to
weigh.

3. We received our data from associates in a poll on Facebook.com and word of mouth.
This is the data we collected.

5. Plot x vs. y and calculate linear correlation coefficient, r. The r that we calculated
is .8232. From analysis of Table A-6 Critical Values of the Pearson Correlation
Coefficient r, the coefficient is .312. Line of Regression: y= 5.973269712x + (-
262.7470391). The black line is the line of best fit.

6. We concluded through analysis that linear relation does not exists. There are two more
conditions in which the data needs to satisfy in order for there to be linear correlation.
This data does not meet the second condition therefore linear relation does not exist. This
data is increasing therefore there is no linear relation. Because there is no linear relation
we cannot use the best-fit equation. Instead of using the equation of best fit our y value is
equal to y bar.
7. We decided to plug in a few numbers to make a few predictions. The numbers that we
plugged into our linear regression equation was 55, 60, 65, 70, and 75.

8. Afterthought: When reflecting on this experience there would be a couple things that we,
as a group, would change. A couple members of the group collected the data from their
associates using Facebook and cell phones. If we were to do this again we would not get
voluntary response, specifically from two people. Combining two sets of data from two
different people allowed for only two major demographics. If we were to do this again
we would acquire data from several different sources and collect the data differently. I
believe that we had a good amount of data but it is always nice to collect more to make
the analysis more accurate. If we were to do this again we would collect more data.
Overall this project was very worthwhile and taught us all how to collect and analyze
data effectively.
