Unit Plan

Grade: 7
Date: October 15, 2015- November 19, 2015
Subject: Computer
Duration: 6 weeks
Unit Title: Word Processing
Rationale: This unit will help the students to make association between handwritten
and word-processed text. Using word processing in the classroom allows the teacher to use
directed instruction or student centered activity based on its versatility and flexibility; it is also
model free instructional software. Word processing improve students attitudes toward writing,
according to Goldberg (2003) students who use computers during writing instruction produce
written work that is about 0.4 standard deviation better than students who develop writing skills
on paper (Goldberg 2003 p. 5). He also suggested that when students write with computers, they
engage in the revising of their work throughout the writing process, more frequently share and
receive feedback from their peers, and benefit from teacher input earlier in the writing
processes.
During lessons within this unit students would work with Microsoft Word tools to enter text,
insert pictures, edit photos, draw objects, and produce tables. These lessons are beneficial as very
likely students will be required to use word processing software to complete school assignments
and in addition many of them will need word processing skills later in life, when they enter the
workplace.
Attainment Target: At the end of the unit:
After writing simple sentences to describe favourite gadget on strips of
papers students should be able to replicate and save these sentences in
Microsoft word
