Procedure

ACTIVITY I Warmer 20 square Complete the sentence (Group work)

Aim: - to warm Ss up;
Time: 5 min.
Procedure: The T. divides the class into 3 groups. She gives each group the 20-square
handout (worksheet 1) and a set of number cards. They sit facing each other round a
table. The number cards are placed face down on the table next to the handout. One
student picks up a number card (ex. Number 7) and he/she must finish the sentence in the
box. The rest of the group decide whether they accept the sentence or not. If they do, the
sentence is crossed out and the students name is written in the box. The game continues
with the next student. The student with the highest number of squares wins.

ACTIVITY II - Reinforcing and checking the previous knowledge (Pair work)

Aim: - to practice asking for and giving additional information
Time: 10 min.
Procedure: The teacher asks the student to get in pairs. She gives each pair (worksheet
2). They have to fill in the right relative pronouns in the sentences. After finishing, the
sentences are checked with the whole class.

ACTIVITY III Introducing the new topic (Group work)

Aims: -to create interest and introduce Ss into the topic
Time: 10 min.
Procedure: The teacher divides the class into 3 groups. She gives each group a handout
(worksheet 3). They have to look at the pictures of different people with different jobs
and discuss how important their image is to them. Then, they have to rank the easiest and
the not very easy things that can be changed regarding their image.

ACTIVITY IV Pre-listening (Group work)

Aims: - to create interest and introduce the students into the topic
Time: 5 min.
Procedure: The teacher divides the class into 3 groups and gives them worksheet 4. The
students look at the pictures and the sayings and concentrate on the first saying
Appearances can be deceptive. They express their agreement or disagreement with it.

ACTIVITY V While-listening (Group work)

Aims: - to practice listening for specific information
Time: 10 min.
Procedure: T. gives each group worksheet 5 where the students must fill in the
information required while listening to the story on CD.

ACTIVITY VI Post-listening Discussion (Pair work)

Aim: - to use the information acquired in discussing on a given topic
Time: 5 min.
Procedure: The teacher explains the concept of being gullible and asks the students to
share their opinions about people who have been deceived. Conclusions are shared with
the class.

ACTIVITY VII - Evaluation and homework assignment

Aim: - to evaluate the Ss. work
- to assign Ss. their homework
Time: 5 min
Procedure: The teacher grades some Ss.
As homework the teacher asks the students to choose a quotation (ex. 4/191) and
write an essay starting from it.
