Värähi represents the five primordial elements - space, air, fire, water and earth - that make up the visible universe. These five elements emerged from the five flowery arrows of Sri Lalithambika and combine to create the universe through sound, touch, sight, taste and smell. Värähi is described as the masculine 'father' form underlying creation. Worship of Värähi helps one understand that the entire visible world is the deity as the underlying consciousness.

The concept of Vrhi is something much more elemental compared to that of the Daamahvidys. The universe is formulated from the pacabhuts which are space, air, fire, water and earth. The pacabhuts are the manifestations of paca tanmtrs which the five flowery arrows of Sri Lalithambika represent. The pacatanmtras are again (1) sound abda; (2) feel spara; (3) form rpa; (4) taste rasa and (5) smell gandha. Vrhi Devi has emerged from the five flowery arrows of Sri Lalithambika It is by the intermingling (pancikarana) of these five aspects the visible universe is being created. These five aspects are the cause of the creative urge (Shakti) as a result of which the visible universe has evolved. Bhavanopanishat says: vrhi pitru rp - Varahi is verily the Father, masculine form. As per astrology the body which is constituted of the five elements, is from the father. Further the universe is also made up of these elements. Thus we see that, whatever is there in the body is there in the universe and whatever is there in the universe is there in this body. The Visible universe is an outcome of the primordial creative urge called Shakti. Thus varahi upsana is to understand that the whole seen world is the deity who is the consciousness.
