PERFORMING ARTS ETHICS and PROTOCOL


Be on time, if not early, for every call, whether it is a class, rehearsal, audition (at least 15 minutes
early) or performance. This is the most important part of the acting job!
When you enter a classroom, please cease your personal chatter and start preparing yourself for
the class.
Turn mobile phones on silent before entering the classroom, rehearsal or performance space.
Respect other actors and treat them as you would treat yourself. (Take interest in their
performance skills and never talk while another student actor is performing.)
Respect your director and teacher. (Network, dont let people have a bad thing to say about you.
Work comes from Its not what you know but who you know.)
Know your work well. Scripts down, music down means that your part must be known at the time
requested by the director.
Never tell the director How to do a scene with the rest of the cast present wait for an
appropriate moment or talk to the assistant director or stage manager.
Look after yourself; health plays a large part of your success in the industry.
In reality slack and rude behavior in the industry would mean you are fired. That same behavior
at WSI Entertainment means youll have a meeting with the Head Teacher and most likely put on a
learning contract that you have to follow until your time at WSI Entertainment is finished.
Absent for any period of time and you will require a Doctors certificate to prove you were unable
to attend. This course runs largely on ensemble activity, actors who are absent let down the
ensemble.
RESPECT YOURSELF! Be your own critic, but encourage yourself too.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ACTING CLASS
It is a requirement of you course that you dress and present yourself appropriately for the theatre
industry. Please do not wear jewelry to acting, voice, movement, screen and improvisation class.
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in that is suitable for stretches. Please dont wear
skirts or dresses unless you have shorts on underneath.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DANCE CLASS
Shoes. Students must have jazz shoes by the third week of class. It is preferable that they are
black, but if you already own a pair that is not black please do not purchase another pair. It is
recommended to buy basic split sole jazz shoes. In the future you may also need to purchase a pair
of tap shoes and chorus shoes. See http://www.bloch.com.au/stores for store locations.
Clothing. Students are to wear clothing that is easy to move in. For example black tights/leggings
and a singlet/tank top. Please do not wear skirts, jeans, baggy clothing or jewelry to dance class.
Hair must always be tied back for dance class.
If you have any questions with any of these requirements please see Sarah for a further
explanation, she is very approachable.

Keeping a Logbook
Dancers are required to plot their choreography and take down notes given to them by their
choreographer. This helps dancers remember their steps and rehearse it. A logbook also helps you note
changes to choreography and is a good way help you focus on the job.

Diploma students are required to plot staging, choreography and write down director notes.
