Basic ITE Corse Courses (18 units)

Fundamentals of IS (IS101). This course contains topics on Information Systems (IS). It


aims to discuss scope of IS, the different career paths and the representative capabilities
and skills required of any IS graduate. This course introduces concepts and theories that
explain or motivate methods and practices in the development and use of information
systems in organizations. The concepts and theories contains information systems,
management, and organization, information, quality, and decision making, relationship of
Information Systems to organizational strategy.

Personal Productivity using IS (IS102)-. This course intends to discuss the basic
applications of the Microsoft Office, namely: (1) Microsoft Word; (2) Microsoft Excel; (3)
Microsoft PowerPoint, (4) Microsoft Publisher and Internet Browsing. In detail, however,
the course explores and applies the various menus, commands and shortcut keys of the
different programs of Microsoft Office in the laboratory room. Finally, the course focuses on
the preparation of a hands-on activity to accomplish that serves as the project of each
student. Each project will have an assessment using a rubric.

Human Computer Interaction (IS103). This course contains topics on understanding
the user, designing for humans, ergonomics, types of environments, cognitive models and
approaches, usability testing and standards, understanding users experience, matching
interaction styles, matching interface elements to user requirements, graphical and non-
graphical user interface, development tools, prototyping, accessibility guidelines,
alternative input/output devices, human-centered design models, SDLC, user analysis, task
analysis and scenarios.

Fundamentals of Programming, Data, File and Object Structures (IS104). This course
is an introductory-level course in computer programming for students. It introduces to
students activities that are accessible, satisfying and deep rather than broad, namely the
activity of programming. The aim of the course is to give a thorough grounding in object-
oriented techniques for Java.

Intro to IS Profession and Ethics (IS105). This course is an introduction to the different
theories of ethics and how these theories can help, guide and shed light to future
Information System professionals in making decisions in their professional and personal

Fundamentals of Business and Management. (IS106). This course contains topics on
the introduction to Management concepts and business organizations. It specifically aims
to develop the management skills of the students through the self-regulated activities that
will be employed in the course. It also contains topics on the economic influences in
business, principles and manifestation of business organization and management
necessary in all types of business ownership, commercial or industrial, large and small.

ITE Professional Courses (48 units)

Systems Analysis and Design (IS 201). This course covers the different phases of
systems development focusing on analysis and design. Students will learn the rudiments of
systems development through a feasibility study.

Databases (IS 202). This course will introduce to the students the concepts of database
management. This will also teach the students the skill necessary to build and design
databases. Issuance of queries to access and manipulate records will also be covered in this
course. The course includes four major topics namely: (1) introduction to databases; (2)
entity-relationship model (3) relational model and (4) introduction to SQL query. This will
give the students a glimpse of how data inside a database management system (DBMS) is
created and manipulated.

System Infrastructure and Integration (IS 203). This course covers design and
integration of system infrastructure. It makes use of UML diagrams to craft and
graphically describe design of the systems and discuss steps in the efficient integration of
the system developed with the existing systems.

Business Processes (IS204 ). This course contains topics on generic business processes
and strategic approaches to management. It is in this course where students will learn how
to describe, analyze, and redesign a business process through the use of information
systems/technology tools and methodologies.

Discrete Structure (IS205). This course covers the standard material on set, relations
which introduces the notation and terminology of set theory which is the basic and use
throughout the course. The course includes topic in logic, vectors and matrices, which
identify the importance and application of discrete mathematics.

Applications Development (IS 206). This course provides a comprehensive
introduction to the principles and practices of object- oriented software development and
provides a foundation for developing quality software. Students develop skills in applying
object- oriented concepts to solve software problems and implement solution.

Network and Internet Technology (IS207). This course provides an in-depth knowledge
of data communications and networking requirements including networking and
telecommunications technologies, hardware, and software. Emphasis is upon the analysis
and design of networking applications and organizations. Management of
telecommunications networks, cost-benefit analysis, and evaluation of connectivity options
are covered. Students learn to evaluate, select, and implement different communication
options within an organization.

Accounting and Financials (IS 208). This course is an introduction to the fields of
managerial and financial accounting, focusing more on the latter. It is designed to equip
Information System students with knowledge and skills on accounting processes, systems,
concepts, principles, and applications in both a manual and computer-based environment.

Project Management and Quality Systems (IS 301). This course tackles project
management concepts that will be useful for project analysis thereby achieving quality
software. This course discusses issues and use of examples from real applications. In
particular, this course focuses on the importance of process definition, measurement and
continuous improvement as part of a discipline of quality engineering. Specific measures
and their use are discussed along with pitfalls and risks in using measurement develop
essential knowledge and skills in software quality assurance methods and tools needed to
take leading roles in software development, and maintenance processes in companies,
producing small to midsize or large-scale and high-quality software, in particular, to plan
software quality assurance activities in software development, to lead and execute
activities and to improve software processes used.

Deployment, Maintenance and Services (IS 302). The course provides the students with
the necessary knowledge and essential concepts to understand systems management and
administration. This gives a direct experience with the most essential system
administration tasks. The students will be able to learn and apply the crucial system
management skills including: using the basic Linux commands, perform basic tasks,
managing files and users, controlling processes, installing, removing or configuring Linux
packages.

Evaluation of Business (IS 303). This course is intended to provide the student with the
experience in assessing information systems and the different tools to be used in
conducting system evaluation. It will discuss topics such as data warehousing, KPI/KRA,
business intelligence, and quality metrics.

Information Systems Planning (IS 304). This course covers Information Systems with
tools to help the students to prepare for a seamless transition to that professional world.
This covers the essential business and managerial application of MIS and IT, from strategic
and competitive technology opportunities to the organization and management of
information using database and data warehouses.

Management of Technology (IS 305). This course provides an in-depth study on the
management of information and technology as it is being practiced in organizations today.
It will cover topics such as network, IT infrastructure, IT organization, data resources and

Internship/OJT Practicum (IS 404). This course is an immersion program where
students will get to balance theory and practice. It is where students will have to apply the
knowledge, skills and attitude in the workplace. This course will require IS and IT students

Capstone Project (IS 402) . This course requires students to develop a system or an
enterprise resource plan or an information systems plan. The students will present their
projects through public presentation or defense with panel members.

IS 311- IS Elective 1 (Advanced Database Management System). The emphasis on this
course is on designing, developing and implementing secure relational databases. Topics
include advanced techniques for queries, forms and reports in an event-driven
environment, in-depth coverage of structuring databases using object-oriented concepts of
properties and methods of classes and objects.

IS 312 - IS Elective 2 (Multimedia). This course equips IS students with the skills to
develop interactive multimedia applications which combine audio, video, text, animation,

IS 321 - Free Elective 1 (Principles, Methods, and Strategies in Teaching Computer
Technology). This course covers topics on principles, methods and strategies in teaching
educational technology. It contains topics on effective use of technology inside the
classroom, design or curriculum with the integration of teaching techniques through the
use of technology.

IS 322 - Free Elective 2 (Foreign Language). This course deals with the basic study of
Japanese, French or mandarin language practically used as a daily conversation. It
