The child will learn about the sense of taste. Be aware
of allergies; for safety do not use peanuts. Make liquid
solutions of sugar and salt. Use lemon juice or vinegar
for a sour flavor. Dip a clean Q-tip into each liquid
and then place it on the childs tongue.

Tongue twisters
Observations
Many living things taste their food with their tongues. Some animals twist
their tongues to smell food
Science activity
Draw a cross () on the tongues of these living things.
Science exploration

The child should be able to identify loud and soft

sounds. Help him or her to identify low- and high-
pitched sounds. Some very high-pitched sounds are
unpleasant to hear, such as chalk scratching on
a board.

Funny ears
Observations
Many living things have ears. They use their ears to hear sounds. Dogs can
hear sounds that humans cannot.
Science activity
These animals all have the wrong ears. Draw a line joining each living thing
to its correct ears.
Science exploration
The child learns the main parts of a plant. Ask the

the vegetable head web activity, ask the child whether
the head is a leaf, flower, fruit, or root.

The child learns that some areas of the body are more
sensitive than others, such as the palm of the hand,
and the bottoms of the feet. Ask the child why this is
so. Explain that these areas are best suited for object
manipulation and balance because they have high
concentrations of nerve connections.
