FIND ME ON FACEBOOK facebook.com/PeterChandlerMLA June 2014 Keeping clear of Graffti I have recently noticed an increase in grafti around Brennan. Northern Territory Government and City of Palmerston property as well as private fences and homes have been vandalised by grafti and this is a criminal offence. It is important to remove this grafti from our neighbourhood as soon as possible to prevent further damage and keep our local area clean and attractive. I have written to property owners, the City of Palmerston and the NT Government asking them to remove this grafti immediately. We need to work together to keep our local streets clean and safe. Local residents can collect kits from the City of Palmerston to remove any grafti you may nd. The City of Palmerstons Grafti Management Program outlines various management options in the event you come across grafti in our local community. Graffti needs to be cleaned off as quickly as possible For more information visit the City of Palmerston website www.palmerston. nt.gov.au/laws-and-permits/ grafti-management or phone City of Palmerston on 8935 9922. If you have further questions please contact my Electorate Ofce on 8999 5587. I visited the site of the new Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre at TIO Stadium recently. This will be a fantastic piece of infrastructure that will help educate young indigenous students while also fostering potential elite athletes. Territory Day should be a celebration that belongs to the people and reects everything thats so great about being a Territorian. Territorians are proud of our unique history, achievements and lifestyle and the Territory ag should be ying high on July 1 each year. Cracker night will always be part of this celebration but theres an opportunity to make it much more by developing a wider program of events that showcase our Territory spirit. We want to hear your ideas on how we can breathe new life into this distinctly Territory event. The Government strongly believes that there should Putting the Territory back into Territory Day be a Territory Day public holiday but how this may happen is part of a broader conversation that we want Territorians to join. Weve already surveyed a cross-section of stakeholders and its clear that Territorians are passionate about what it means to live here and how we should mark this important occasion. One idea that came out of our survey was shifting cracker night to a weekend and wed like to know whether Territorians support that move. Wed also like to explore the idea of extending the celebration beyond just a single day to create a more comprehensive Territory Week that has a focus on community-based events. Were considering a community grants program to fund events, activities and programs across the Territory around July 1 each year. Sporting events are a great part of our Territory lifestyle and theres the possibility of scheduling sporting xtures to coincide with these celebrations. To tell us how you think Territory Day should be celebrated visit: www.territoryday.nt.gov.au Come join your Palmerston team at the Palmerston Markets every Friday evening. Our stall is just down Frances Drive.
