AS THE UK housing mar-
ket continues to improve,
more couples are consid-
ering buying a home to-
gether.
Asurvey, by One Poll, has
revealed that 53 per cent of
first time buyers are most
likely to buy with their
partner while the second
most popular option would
be to buy a home on their
own, with more than 20 per
cent considering this.
Buying with a friend
came third on the list with
12 per cent thinking this
is a good idea, while buy-
ing with a parent or child
was considered likely by
less than 10 per cent of re-
spondents.
Although this was higher
than the option of buying
with a brother or sister
which was way down the
list with less than three per
cent likely to take up resi-
dence with a sibling.
Richard Lawson, sales
director of Barratt Homes,
the company that commis-
sioned the survey, said the
figures have been released
at a time of increased buy-
er confidence.
The housing market is
more buoyant than it has
been for a while and with
the governments Help To
Buy scheme and a wide
range of properties on the
market first time buyers
are seeing 2014 as the per-
fect time to get onto the
property ladder, he said.

Heinz tomatotech is focus for Ford
THE car industry is full of
interesting and unusual busi-
ness partnerships, but this
latest pairing of Ford and
Heinz promises to be one of
the more intriguing.
Far from seeking to pro-
duce 57 varieties of any par-
ticular new Ford model, the
two firms are exploring the
use of tomato fibre to devel-
op a sustainable composite
materials for use in vehicle
manufacturing.
For example, boffins believe
that dried tomato skins could
become the wiring brackets
in future Ford vehicles or the
storage bin a customer uses
to hold coins and other small
objects.
Commenting on the re-
search, Ellen Lee, Ford plas-
tics research specialist, said:
We are exploring whether
this food processing by-prod-
uct makes sense for an auto-
motive application.
Our goal is to develop a
strong, lightweight mate-
rial that meets our vehicle
requirements, while at the
same time reducing our over-
all environmental impact.
Nearly two years ago, Ford
began collaborating with
Heinz, The Coca-Cola Com-
pany, Nike Inc. and Procter
& Gamble to accelerate de-
velopment of a plant-based
plastic to help reduce the
petroleum-based materials
currently in use.
At Heinz, researchers were
looking for innovative ways
to recycle peels, stems and
seeds fromthe more than two
million tons of tomatoes the
company uses annually to
produce its best-selling prod-
uct, Heinz Ketchup.

this weekend as the town
welcomes a host of stars for
the Dinefwr Literature Fes-
tival.
From Friday to Sunday
the festival will showcase
some of the music indus-
trys hottest talent in a cel-
ebration of words, music
and landscape.
Charlotte Church will
headline on Friday with her
first live appearance since
the release of her new EP,
Four.
Renowned BBC Radio One
DJ Huw Stephens will also
appear on the opening day
with his personally curated
show, Lyricism.
Critically acclaimed sing-
er-songwriter Cate Le Bon,
will perform on Saturday,
ahead of the mischievous
Adrian Edmondson & the
Bad Shepherds. Saturday
will see the largest number
of music performances,
with Welsh acts including
Llandeilos Trwbador.
Sunday will see headline
performances from Hot
Chips Alexis Taylor and
festival favourite, Gruff
Rhys. Gruff will present
American Interior, a true
story account of the 18th
century Welsh explorer
John Evans travels through
a multisensory experience.
This years music pro-
gramme will take place
against a backdrop of spo-
ken word events from writ-
ers and poets to comedians.

WHEELS are in motion for
Amman Valleys annual
charity wheelbarrow race.
Organised by the Amman
United Youth, it sees teams
of two one inside the wheel-
barrow and the other push-
ing trek through the valley
for six miles.
However, its not as tough
as it sounds, because you will
have the opportunity to stop
off at each pub on the way
for a pint.
This years time to beat for
the charity push is seven
hours and 30 minutes.
A prize will be given to the
team that finishes first and
for the best fancy dress.
The event is set to take
place on Saturday, July 12,
starting at the Amman Unit-
ed, Glanaman, setting off at
12.30pm.
This years charity will be
Hannah Rose vs Leukaemia.
Fancy dress, as always, is
mandatory, the crazier the
better.
The race is open to over 18s
only.
The charge to enter is 5.
There is no entry form, just
turn up on the day with your

festival of music draws

chael Collins, who will
