Subject: Employment Project Reflection Memo
I have actually enjoyed creating all of the components of this project. It has given
me the ability to learn skills in order to create the different documents that are a part of
the employment process. I have already had some of these documents from previous
experiences, but I was able to make them even better as a part of this project. I have also
enjoyed working on these documents because I know that in a year, they will be used for
finding my job in the field that I wish to be employed in! I cant believe that them time is
almost here. I am ready to become an elementary school teacher and this project has
gotten me even more excited.
I wouldnt really say that I had any challenges during this project, but I guess you
could say that the project is very time consuming. Even though I have already started
some of these documents before this class, I still had to fix parts of those documents
along with creating documents that I have not made before. It is important to take your
time on each document because they are all very important documents and potentially
help decide if you get a job or not. The documents need to be very professional so that
could be challenging because it is very important that they are at that professional level.
Even though we were asked to pick one document to describe a revision process
on, I had two documents that I spent the most time on. The two documents that I revised
the most were my cover letter and my thank you letter. I wrote these documents before
the class mock interview so I would be able to get some feedback on them. I had to revise
these documents again because of the font that I had chosen first and also the spacing that
was throughout the document. The font that I had chosen previously looked to big and
not as professional. The spacing however, was following the guidelines, but it did not
look correct after printing it. I changed my font from Arial to Times New Roman and
also single-spaced in between the paragraphs in both the cover and thank you letters.
I enjoyed the class mock job interview because I had the chance to ask and
answer many questions that will some be asked of me when I will be applying and
interviewing for a job in my field. I liked my role as the interviewee because I had the
chance to answer possible interview questions that will be asked of me in the future. I
realized that I needed to practice more and make sure my responses really sound
professional. Being the interviewer, I could see how nervous the interviewee gets and I
could help them with their responses by giving them positive feedback or suggestions. I
thought it was helpful to hear questions that were expected and also ones that werent as
expected and it made me realize that I need to think about them more and practice in the
future. Personal questions are easier for me, but questions that require thinking about the
future are sometimes more difficult for me to answer.
I enjoyed interviewing someone in my field because I got to interview my mother.
She is a kindergarten teacher and that is the grade that I wish to teach. She is my role
model and I want to be a teacher just like her. Learning from her through this interview as
well as over the course of my life, I learn more and more about teaching everyday. I
learned more about the types of documents that she writes through the interview and that
there is a lot of it in the field. I didnt expect the level of writing to be low at all, but I
just learned all the many types of writing that she does for her job. Reading, writing and
speaking are all of equal importance because they are all the huge parts of being a
teacher. It is a very, very important job to have.
I chose to research Swedens employment and writing process. The three main
places that you look for a job in Sweden are the EURES database, private job portals, and
company websites. The best place is through the EURES database. This database runs
through the Swedish Public Employment Agency. Non-EU citizens will have to fill out a
work permit if they wish to work in Sweden. When applying for job, potential job
candidates are required to submit a CV (resume), cover letter and go through the
interviewing process. A CV (Curriculum Vitae) should be one to two pages long and
include an overview of work experience, studies, achievements, skills and references.
The contact information should be at the top of the page. (An example is attached.) A
cover letter should be no longer than one page and should show why you are the best
person for the job. The interviewing process allows the employer to get a sense of who
you are. Since the employer already knows your qualifications, the candidate has the
opportunity to show who they are as a person. The questions are not all related about the
job the candidate is seeking. Swedish employers ask a lot of questions about your family
and what you do in your free time. More information can be found at
(http://work.sweden.se/work-permits/)
If a teacher wants to apply for a teaching position in Sweden they must do the above
process as well. The municipalities or schools hire teachers. The Education Act requires
teacher applicants to have a teaching diploma from a university, knowledge of the
Swedish language and appreciation of the regulation applicable to the school system. The
municipality or school chooses between the eligible applicants. The school board or the
principal makes a final decision. More information can be found at
