BACKGROUND
Kajang is a town in the eastern part of Selangor, Malaysia. Kajang is the district capital
of Hulu Langat. It is located 21 kilometer from Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. The current
locational gravity of growth in Kajang would be Sungai Chua. The total population of Kajang
has grown rapidly in the past few years, with estimated population growth of 9% per annum.
The soon-to-be-realised Klang Valley MRT station in Bandar Kajang will boost the property
value in Sungai Chua. As of 2004, a few townships have been developed in Kajang, such as
Taman Prima Saujana (straight from Jalan Cheras), Sungai Chua, Taman Kajang Perdana (Kajang
Highlands). Lately, many high-end developments has mushroomed in Kajang such as Twin
Palms, Sri Banyan, Country Heights, Jade Hills and Prima Paramount.
Areas surrounding these new townships are easily accessible via the SILK
Expressway. Kajang is governed by the Majlis Perbandaran Kajang.




VISION AND MISSION
To leave a sustainable world for future generations. We want people to live in a clean
environment, diverse and safe environment that welcome everyone.

To transform Kajang becomes a sustainable city in energy efficiency, industrial
productivity, affordable and personalized healthcare and also intelligent infrastructure
solutions. We want to transform the town centre of Kajang to be a self-reliance town.
Kajang has well known with its transformation from a small old town to a big modern town
by designing and developing new township such as Bandar Baru Bangi and Bandar Seri Putra
as well as extending its CBD (central business district) such as extension to Sungai Chua.
However, its centre is inadequately transformed and most of its residences are working in
Kuala Lumpur and other external areas. There are some vision and plan for redevelop Kajang
towards a town centre and to be self-reliance town.

PLANNING FOR KAJANG

1) Sustainable Concept
Towards the green city application, the concept of sustainability should be implemented since
Kajang city is getting worst in term of environmental consideration due to them massive
development throughout the whole city. With high density of population increases from year
to year, a comfortable condition should be provided in term of city planning and facilities
such as better transportation and so on should be provided. The building should be followed
the green building index to ensure the development is influenced by the sustainability
concept.





2) Modern Public Transport Facilities
The existing system of transportation in Kajang needs to be improved hence to reduce the
traffic congestion and the need to use the own transport. The public transport can be
introduced by providing a public transport services within the city and increase the number
the place for bus stop so that it will not disturbing traffic in Kajang. The benefit of modern
transport facility as follows:-
The travel time is smooth and punctual.
The facilities at station are upgrade to give comfortable to passengers and more
friendly facilities.
Location of station is near to housing or apartments that easier for people to catch the
time of train or buses.


3) Downtown Development & Privatisation of Public Space
Public space can be categories to parks, public spaces, streets, parking, restrooms, parking
area and many more. Kajang city can make improvement to certain public space by using the
tax revenue from the district. Thus, a lot of facilities can be improved and also can enhance
the quality life of the community in Kajang city. For example, privatization also can be
implemented at the parking area in order to upgrade the facilities.

4) Naked Street
Remove all things that supposed to make safe for pedestrian especially like traffic lights,
railings, kerbs and road markings that created a completely open and even surface on which
motorists and pedestrians negotiated with each other by eye contact. Access roadway and
pathway that will facilitate people to move around to next building without worry about
safety on accident by the cars.









5) Masjid Centred
Develop the surrounding of the existing masjid to improve the development there and masjid
will be the focal for every resident. Established new facilities and services near to masjid
area. This is done to facilitate the residents








6) Urban Renewal
Commercial and industrial area
Focus on undisturbed area for the development of the commercial and industrial area.
Maximize the usage of land use for the development but under controlling and
limitation of development sources in order to full fill the sustainability concept for the
city.
Green space
Considering the biodiversity availability within the city area by increasing the tree
alongside the road or at public area such recreational park. Introducing laws for every
resident to take part in this initiative.

7) Renewable Energy
Solar Power Plant Energy supplies for our entire city are solar power farm. This kind of
renewable energy has many advantages than disadvantages. To make our city become the
sustainable environment, we have to provide this thing of energy supply. The major
advantage of solar power is that no pollution is created in the process of generating
electricity. Environmentally it the most Clean and Green energy. Solar Energy is clean,
renewable and sustainable, helping to protect our environment.


8) Waste Management
A proposal to place an environmentally friendly Recycling Centre focusing on reusing
todays household or domestic waste materials to preserve tomorrows resources and to
promote recycle in Kajang city. They are green, reduce energy wastage and the most
important thing is they are fully functional as well as any other building. The aim of this
recycling centre is to minimize natural resource use while enhancing social and economic
benefits. It is designed to increase the understanding and appreciation of the environment
among the public. The design approach of this project is to produce an environmental aware
community by exposing them to the process and the importance of recycling. Interactive
space among public and learning space to educate the public are the main concern of the
project.

9) River Cleaning, Beautification and River Development.
Applying project River of Life to make Langat river basin vibrant and liveable. The
transformation is based on river cleaning, beautification and river development.
River cleaning: clean and improve the water quality from its current class III to class
V water quality that not suitable for body contact to become class IIb that is suitable
for body contact recreational usage.
Beautification : make Langat River look beautiful to increase the economic viability
of area.
River development: The beautification works will spur economic investments into the
areas immediately surrounding the river corridor. To catalyst development along the
corridor, potential government land will be identified and tendered out to private
developers through competitive bidding. To make Langat river livable and attracted to
the tourism, we can have a new development along the river. We can proposed to
build Kajang business hall fro convention, construct hotels along the river and
develop some commercial area along the river. It can contribute to economical
income for kajang city.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, we can transform kajang itself from a small old town to a big modern town by
designing and developing new township such as Bandar Baru Bangi and Bandar Seri Putera.
So, a proper plan, vision and proper designing can be implemented in kajang city. Some of
the best practices in Europe can be implementing in kajang city to make the city more self-
reliance. In the same time, Kajang can become a sustainable city in energy efficiency,
industrial productivity, affordable and personalized healthcare and also intelligent
infrastructure solutions.
