KEY FEATURES
Cost effective and compact alternative
to all-indoor N+1 trunking radios.
Available in 5, L6, U6, 7, 8, 10 and
11 GHz frequency bands.
Enables ultra-high link capacities
up to 3.7 Gbit/s.
Eliminates the need for waveguide
runs, pressurization and dehydrators.
Enables smaller shelters or compact
outdoor cabinets to be used.
Often reduces antenna sizes needed
compared to all-indoor trunking
radios.
Traffc options include Carrier
Ethernet (CE), native TDM (PDH/SDH)
or Hybrid (mixed-mode CE+TDM) in a
single radio channel.
Fully compatible with Eclipse Packet
Node platform.
Supports 256QAM Adaptive Coding
and Modulation (ACM).

AVIAT STR 600
SPLIT-MOUNT, ULTRA-HIGH CAPACITY TRUNKING SOLUTION
The Aviat STR 600 solution combines high system performance
with the convenience of a split-mount architecture for ultra-high
capacity trunking and backbone applications. Split-mount trunking
lowers the costs associated with deploying and operating ultra-
high capacity microwave links with low-loss combining of multiple
radio channels to provide aggregate link capacities of up to 3.7
Gbit/s as an alternative to long haul fber.
SPLIT MOUNT MICROWAVE TRUNKING
Spilt-mount trunking lowers the costs associated with deploying and operating ultra-
high capacity microwave links, where multiple radio channels are combined to provide
multi-Gigabit capacities. For years traditional trunking microwave systems have been
installed all-indoors, usually in a stand-alone equipment rack, requiring large shelters
and high air conditioning costs. The STR 600 combines up to four Aviat ODU600T outdoor
units onto a single antenna using a compact, low loss Outdoor Branching Unit (OBU).
Each ODU600T is a high performance radio supporting market leading transmit power
and full-band tuning range.

REDUCING TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP
By relocating the radio units from the shelter to the tower, adjacent to the antenna, the
deployment and operational costs are dramatically reduced. Shelters can be much
smaller or cabinets can be used, slashing air-conditioning needs, and long waveguide
runs are eliminated along with the need for costly and unreliable pressurization/
dehydration systems.

HIGH RF PERFORMANCE REDUCES ANTENNA SIZES
Typical split-mount multi-channel systems require RF combiners to multiplex the
separate ODUs onto a single antenna, which add signicant losses to the radio path, and
needing much larger antennas to maintain the required path objectives. By combining
the improved system gain of the ODU600T and the ultra-low loss branching of the Aviat
Outdoor Branching Unit (OBU), the STR 600 directly enables smaller antennas to be used,
lowering costs and lightening tower loading. Smaller antennas are also easier to install/
align, and are less susceptible to negative path propagation effects.
NO WAVEGUIDE, NO PRESSURIZATION OR DEHYDRATION
The STR 600 does not require waveguide runs, even in the case where space diversity
is required. Other competing split-mount trunking solutions require short waveguide
runs to connect the diversity antenna. These runs use manual pressurization, such as
hand-pumps or desiccant, which require regular inspection and maintenance with tower
climbs, signicantly increasing operational costs.
HIGHER SYSTEM GAIN MEANS BETTER RF PERFORMANCE
The STR 600 can be deployed in conjunction with Aviats Eclipse Packet Node platform,
and is forward compatible with future Aviat microwave networking solutions. The Eclipse
Carrier Ethernet features allow efcient aggregation of the multiple radio connections
using advanced Layer-1 Link Aggregation (L1LA), providing automatic load balancing
and protection for high priority Ethernet trafc. Eclipse also supports resilient Ethernet
networking features, such as G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection (ERP).
