GEOGRAPHICAL DATA
The AD is situated 13.5nm NE of the
capital. Terrain around the AD is flat and
partially covered with fine sand. High
terrain rises about 12nm NW of the AD.

same RWY layout as PEK.

WEATHER
WINTER (OCT-MAR):
Dry continental climate dominated by the
continental high and the dry NW-monsoon
with passages of depressions from Central
China and Siberia which may bring moderate snowfalls from NOV-MAR.

2.2

Dry Monsoon:
In early SEP pressure rises rapidly over
northern China and Mongolia which
causes sudden strong cold winds from
NNW for some days/month with calm
periods in between. This monsoon is not a
constant flow but a periodical outbreak of
cold air reflecting the changes of position
and strength of the continental anticyclone
in winter, which persists until early APR.
Weather associated with the NNW
monsoon: Generally clear, cold (mean
temperature -3C, DEC-FEB) and
extremely dry (mean relative humidity
below 50%).

SUMMER (Mid JUN-AUG):


Continental climate under the influence
of the continental heat low. The wet SW
monsoon just reaches PEK and may cause
heavy precipitation and sometimes inundations in JUN and AUG. However, there are
also longer periods of extreme dryness.

SPRING (APR - mid JUN):


The temperature rises rapidly to an
average of 10C in APR. Spring sets in
with several sandstorms, the Yellow
Winds, which blow with an average of
20kt from SW during 1-2 days, rising great
quantities of sand and dust. They are
followed by a calm period of some hours,
then the wind starts again for some hours,
but from opposite direction. The air is
extremely dry during such periods,
however, sometimes hail or rain showers
may occur after the wind has ceased.

8.8.1 Aircraft on the same localizer course are
afforded 12km/6,5nm or more longitudinal
separation; when the preceding aircraft is
HEAVY (including B757), 15km/8.1nm or
more separation are provided.
8.8.2 When departing aircraft begins to conduct
take-off run, the aircraft approaching to
the same runway shall be not less than
5km/2.7nm from the runway threshold.

8.8.3 Landing aircraft shall vacate the runway as


soon as possible (within 50 seconds from
flying over runway threshold to vacating
runway), otherwise inform Tower controller
before landing.
8.9

8.11 Under certain adverse weather conditions


(e.g. windshear, turbulence, downdrafts
or crosswind) which might increase ILS
localizer course deviations to the extent
that safety may be impaired and/or an
unacceptable number of deviation alerts
would be generated, report the situation to
controller immediately.
According to the reports and weather
information, ATC will decide the necessity
to terminate the dependent/independent
parallel ILS approaches or independent
parallel departures and implement the
segregated parallel approaches/departures.

9.1

Upon receipt of approaching clearance, the


pilot shall monitor the operating situations
of other aircraft in the vicinity using airborne
equipment such as ACAS and establish
the visual separation as practicable, then
report visual separation established when
the controller notifies the relative position to
other aircraft.

8.10 When an aircraft is observed penetrating


the No Transgression Zone, the approach
controller or the final radar monitor
controller will override the tower controller
on the tower frequency immediately and
instruct the aircraft on the adjacent ILS
localizer course to avoid the deviating
aircraft; at the same time, other pilots
listening on tower frequency shall avoid
unnecessary radio transmissions.

8.12 Under the condition of thunderstorms, ATC


will terminate the dependent/independent
parallel ILS approaches or independent
parallel departures immediately and
implement the segregated parallel
approaches/departures.

RADAR VECTORING AND


SEQUENCING
Normally, aircraft will be vectored
and sequenced from Dawangzhuang
VOR(VYK), Huailai NDB(KM) and
Zangangzhen NDB(JB), BOBAK, GITUM,
DOGAR or transfer of control points to
the appropriate final approach track or to
the time when R/W is in sight. Instructions
about radar vectors, ascent/descent
altitudes or speed adjustment will be
issued for spacing and separating the
aircraft so that stipulated radar intervals
and wake intervals are maintained, taking
into account aircraft characteristics or
control regulations.

9.2

Departing aircraft shall operate according


to SID procedures; or be vectored to join
in the standard departure routes by radar
controller.

9.3

During rush hour, arrival aircraft will be


vectored, radar vectoring track will be
different with that of published STAR.

10.

NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES


If the conditions to comply with the
requirements of obstacle clearance and
climb gradient are met the following
operating procedures for take-off climb
shall be implemented:

10.1 From take-off to 500m/1600ft altitude use


take-off power and flap/slats settings.
Maintain a climb speed of V2 plus
20 km/n/10kt.
10.2 At 500m/1600ft altitude reduce power to
climb power and maintain a speed of V2
plus 20 km/n/10kt with flaps/slats in the
take-off configuration.
10.3 At 950m/3100ft altitude, accelerate and
retract flaps/slats on schedule while
maintaining a positive rate of climb and
complete the transition to normal enroute
climb speed.
