Countryside Ranger Intern


Overview of the role
You will help to deliver the day to day management of the National Trusts
countryside at Erddig. The Countryside Ranger Intern wor!ing closely with the "ead
Ranger will ensure that the Erddig estate is maintained to a high standard fostering
close relationships with estate tenants and the visiting pu#lic encouraging them to
use the estate in a manner that is sympathetic to the countryside and in compliance
with the National Trust #y$laws. %s part of a team you will ena#le a #road range of
people to have outstanding and inspirational e&periences through the 'uality of
welcome and effectiveness of our conservation wor!. Your main focus will #e a
pro(ect which measures and monitors the use of the Erddig estate. Your research
into monitoring techni'ues and their use in open countryside sites will #e used as a
case study within the National Trust and your results will support our applications for
funding and further research.

Whats involved?
,nderta!e practical conservation wor! to ensure the conservation and
management of the Erddig estate including maintaining #oundaries-
This role is purely voluntary and this arrangement is not meant to be a legally
binding one or an employment contract
maintenance of woodlands in line with the .oodland *anagement /cheme-
maintenance of watercourses and footpaths.
)ecome familiar with conservation plans and priorities and assist the Ranger
team and other colleagues in identifying opportunities to enhance visitor
e&perience through the deployment of these plans.
0acilitate measures which meet agreed o#(ectives designed to ensure that the
care and presentation of the property visitor facilities and the welcome
provided #y staff and volunteers is of the highest 'uality.
%ct as a !ey point of contact #etween local communities and the National
Trust developing e&cellent wor!ing relationships with local people
encouraging them to #ecome actively involved in practical countryside
management.
In liaison with the Ranger develop and deliver strategies to improve the visitor
e&perience across the estate. This will include developing new pro(ects and
initiatives to ena#le a wider cross section of visitors to en(oy and access the
Erddig estate.
1eliver 2e&ceptional service every time for everyone demonstrating our

deliver great products and services helping our visitors en(oy their day their
way.
Play a !ey role in the creation and maintenance of a wor!ing environment
which fosters individual commitment enthusiasm and confidence ensuring
effective teamwor! and communication #oth within the Ranger team and
across other disciplines including !ey messages a#out the Trusts wor!. You
will help support the wor! of volunteers #uilding support for the Trusts outdoor
wor!.
Pro(ect$ Research in to different methods of monitoring the use of open
par!land and use this research to provide evidence to show how many people
use the Erddig estate.
%ll staff are e&pected to o#serve the Trusts policy and practices for the
protection and improvement of the environment
Promote and monitor high standards of safety for staff volunteers contractors
and users of the whole estate through development of appropriate ris!

mechanisms

Erddig is a uni'ue family home that has captured the way of life of a #ustling

ErddigAs walled garden is one of the most important surviving eighteenth$century
gardens in )ritain. It has rare fruit trees a canal pond and a National Ivy Collection.
There is a licensed restaurant gift shop secondhand #oo!shop and country par!
with a cylindrical cascade !nown as the Acup and saucer waterfallA and motte$and$
#ailey castle.
