Power Supply (+48V 1500W) Installation and Replacement Instructions This document describes how to remove and replace an existing or install a new +48V 1500W power supply in an ESL G3 Tape Library. Copyright 2011 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. Printed in the US *QP008-96003* HP Part Number: QP008-96003 Published: October 2011 Edition: 2nd CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their containers until needed. Make sure that you are properly grounded when touching static sensitive components. NOTE: If the power supply is redundant (there is another one in the module), the power supply is hot-swappable; you do not have to turn off power to the library or module to remove and replace a redundant power supply. Inspect the contents of the kit The kit contains one +48V 1500W power supply. You will also need the ESD strap that shipped with the ESL G3. Prepare the library 1. If you are replacing the only power supply in the module, power off the library: a. Make sure there is no I/O activity on any of the partitions. b. Make sure that you are viewing the physical library. From the View menu or in the Managed Views region of the Operator Control Panel (OCP), click the name of the physical library. c. Select OperationsSystem Shutdown. The System Shutdown dialog box appears with Shutdown selected as the default. d. Select Shutdown, then click OK in the confirmation dialog box. When the shutdown process completes, the OCP display turns dark. e. To turn off power to the library, press the Power button on the indicator panel. 2. Open the service door to the module. 3. Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an unpainted surface inside the door. Page 1 4. On the power distribution unit (PDU) to the right of the power supply that is being replaced, set the power switch to the down position to turn power off. 1. Power switch Remove the existing power supply (replacement only) Loosen the thumbscrew on the power supply and pull it toward you to remove it from the housing. 1. Thumbscrew CAUTION: There is a pinch point between the edge of the module and the left side of the power supply when the power supply is slid out of the module. Remove the power supply blank plate (new installation only) 1. Loosen the thumbscrews that secure the blank plate to the module. 1. Blank plate thumbscrews Page 2 2. Remove the blank plate from the module. 3. Store the blank plate in a safe location for possible future use. Install the new power supply 1. Slide the new power supply into the opening and tighten the thumbscrew. CAUTION: There is a pinch point between the edge of the module and the left side of the power supply when the power supply is slid into of the module. 2. If you are installing a redundant power supply, also slide the new PDU into the opening (to the right of the power supply), tighten the thumbscrew, and attach the power cable to the PDU. 3. Turn the power switch on the PDU (to the right of the new power supply) to the up position to turn power on. Prepare the library for use 1. Detach the ESD strap and close the service access door. 2. If the library was powered off for this procedure, press the Power button on the indicator panel to power it back on. The library begins to boot up. A library with only a few drives usually will be fully powered on and ready for use within 10 minutes. However, if a library is large with a high number of drives, it can take more than an hour for the library to fully power on, complete its discovery process, and become ready for use. During the power on process, the Robotics Enabled indicator flashes. When the library is fully powered on and ready to receive commands, the Robotics Enabled indicator turns solid green. 3. If this is a replacement, close the event that was generated for the failed power supply.
