Experiment 3
AC Circuits: RC and RL in Series
Objective:
To verify Kirchhoffs Voltage Law (KVL) in RC circuit.
To verify Kirchhoffs Voltage Law (KVL) in RL Circuit.
Apparatus and components:
1. Resistors: 1 k.
2. Capacitor: 100 nF.
3. Inductor: 100 mH.
4. Breadboard.
5. Signal Generator.
6. Oscilloscope.
7. Multimeter.
8. Jumpers/cables/connectors.
Background theory:
A. RC Circuit.
An RC circuit operated using AC voltages, E, is shown in Fig. 3.1.

B. RL Circuit.

Procedure:
A. To verify KVL in RC circuit.
1. Construct an RC circuit as shown in Fig. 3.1 on the breadboard.
2. Calculate theoretically the voltages across R and C for the values of k R 1 ,

3. Verify KVL for the RC circuit in Fig. 3.1, theoretically.
4. Switch ON the signal generator, and then set the frequency 1 kHz and the output voltage
1 Vp. By using Voltmeter, measure the voltages across E, R, and C.
