METHOD
STATEMENT
For the transporting of the generating set, from vehicle to the place of installation, it is
requested to have appropriate mechanism for lifting.
The area being used for the lifting has been clearly observed and ensure that all safety
measures are properly implemented.
Positioning the trailer near to the proposed area to off load generating set.
The offloading of the generation set can be performed as explained bellow:
It is possible to locate two girth to be tied to a central bar, bigger than the width of the base,
to avoid friction in the engine or alternator. If chains are used, protecting the bench in order
to avoid the damage of painting is required.
After hooking generating set, the lifting gear shall be slightly loaded, Supervisor will make
sure that slings are in proper position and the equipment is no obstructed by anything.
If a lift truck is used, introducing the arms of the lift tracks up to the end is required. Never
generayor set will take from the end of the arms. Set can manage to be overturned due to its
own weight.
9.0-

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Generating set assembled outdoors must be protected against weather agents, dust, etc, by
suitable covering.
Direct solar exposition, which may cause abnormal heating of the generating set, must be
avoided.
For provisional installations, it is sufficient supporting the generating set on a well levelled
area.
From main board to other sub-boards, power distribution works shall be done as per
approved shop drawings.
Alternator neutral terminal and body shall be connected with external earth.
10.0- GENERATING SET USE
10.1- Standard rules
Before starting, verify that there are no charges connected to.
Check the voltage of the load.
Refrigeration air discharges of alternator must be clean without obstructions.
For three-phases generating sets the single-phase loads must be in equilibrium mode
distributed.
Check with amperimeter than the intesity requested is lower than the specified in set
characteristics.

METHOD
STATEMENT
Dont overload the generating set.
10.2- General safety cautions
Do not allow unauthorised personnel in site.
Due to possible electromagnetic interference, access must be denied to persons with heart
stimulating appliance.
Do not approach the generation set carrying wide clothes or objects that could be attracted
by the air flow or by the mobile parts of the engine.
It is prohibit to exclude and/or dismantle the safety devices.
Do not lean on generating set or place objects on it.
10.3- Safe installation and first running
Always wear a helmet, adequate footwear and safety gloves, protection eyewear and dry &
tight clothes.
Do not modify the original protections, located in all the exposed rotary parts, on hot
surfaces, air inlets, belts an active electrical parts.
Make sure that an earthing connection is available.
Do not leave the power terminals of the generating set set uncovered.
Identify location of emergency stop buttons, quick stop fuel valves, switches and other
emergency systems present in the installation.
Verify the perfect functionality of the stop devices of the generation set. Specially over speed
stop, oil pressure low, water high temperature and the emergency stop.
Check that the gas are expelled outside into the atmosphere, at a safety distance from
doors, windows and air inlets.
Before starting the engine read the manual of the engine.
Put security elements near to set, such fire extinguishers.
10.4- Safety in the operation
Do not grant access to persons or animals in the operative zone of the generating set.
Do not touch the generating set, specially the wires and connections of the alternator, while
the generating set is on.
Avoid touching parts in movement until the generating set may has come to a complete stop.
During the operation of the generating set, wear ear protection to avoid hearing lesions.

METHOD
STATEMENT
Fuel and lubricants can be toxic, explosive and corrosive. Maintaining them in original
containers and storing them in protected places is recommended.
10.5- Environmental Safety
Exhaust gases are harmful and may be lethal.
Respect laws and other regulations on acoustics equipment.
Substitute the exhaust pipe and/or silencer of the engine if the noise emitted is higher than
allowed by regulations.
Maintenance operations (oil changes, cleaning of fuel tanks, battery, ..) storage and waste
disposal will have to be done meeting regulations in use.
11.0- SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
11.1- General
Dont let amateur persons use the generating set.
To connect to the earth both the generator and the load.
Dont operate with wet hands.
Generating Set has to be installed with differential protection.
Check the correct function of the differential with the test button.
Connection of Generating Set must be done by professional personal.
Learn to stop the generating set in case of emergency.
Remember battery may contain dangerous substances. It can provoke injuries in the human
body.
If it was consumed, drink water until the doctor comes.
If the contact is on the skin or eyes, wash with water and go to the medical center.
Be careful about keeping the safety distance between the generating set and any object.
Dont manipulate flammable substances near the generating set when it is operating.
Be careful the generator set is cold before checking internal parts.
Read carefully the documents of the generating set.
Check electric wiring periodically.
Read the manual of the engine.
11.2- Special precautions

PROJECT NO: AL AIN HOSPITAL MAIN WORKS PACKAGE

METHOD
STATEMENT
In order to avoid damages, special precautions should be taken into a account, such as:
Faulty installation or application.
Use no according to instructions reported on the engines.
No filters have been changed.
Arbitrary change of electric connexions performed by manufacturer.
Use of unsuitable fuels or lubricants.
Repair performed by not authorized persons.
Use of no original parts.
Engine operated beyond the load limits & temperature established by manufacturer.
Safety protections which do not suit the working ambient conditions.
12.0- MAINTENANCE
12.1- Caution during maintenance
Never wear baggy clothes, rings, bracelets or necklaces when working next to engine.
Wear appropriate eyes protection.
Use protective helmet.
Always use safety shoes and tight clothes.
Immediately substitute wet clothes.
Before operating on any components, disconnect the battery to avoid possible accidental
start-up.
Avoid maintenance works when electrical tension is present.
Verify the earth connection.
Before working on parts that may be in tension, always check that hands and feet are dry.
Check that wires isolation is satisfactory.
To avoid the danger of electrical arches, connect first the positive terminal, then the
negative.
Dont attempt unfamiliar repair works.
Keep the engine clean at all times, by eliminating oil, gasoil, or other.
Adequate containers, according to rules, will be used for storing used oil.

12.3- Anti vibration mountings
Check carefully the appearance of cracking or elasticity loss in the anti vibration mounting
rubber, if so, proceed to change it.
Check that the anti vibration mountings are properly fixed to the engine, baseframe and
alternator, if not, proceed to clamp them.
The anti vibration mountings should not be wet with fuel, as this is dangerous for the rubber,
it looses elasticity and cracks.
12.4- Refill fuel tank
Do not smoke or light flames during oil supply.
Check in the level gauge the remaining fuel in the tank. For generating sets without this
device, the fuel level has to be checked at visually, always with the generating set stopped.
To refuel, do it always with the generating set stopped.
Open the stopper and avoid spillage.
Turn the stopper clockwise until it is firmly closed.
Verify everyday or after every filling if there are fuel leakages from the tank. If so, proceed to
change completely the tank.
12.5- Gas leaks in exhaust circuit

PROJECT NO: AL AIN HOSPITAL MAIN WORKS PACKAGE

METHOD
STATEMENT
Check while the generation set is running if there are any leaks in the exhaust circuit of the
generating set. If so, stop the generating set and solve this problem. Leakage must be
eliminated. It provides a decrease in the efficiency of the generating set.
12.6- Electric components
If some abnormal functioning is detected, do not open control board neither alternator under
any concept. Immediate danger of electrocution is expected.
For the review of the connections, make sure that the generating set is completely
disconnected.
13- GENERAL NOTES
