Audience Scenario

(for a feasibility study of a Blended Lifting Body Design for the Orbital Space Plane)
The primary audience for this analysis is NASAs Board of Directors. The results contained in this
report will ultimately aid the Board in the decision to go ahead with the final design for the Orbital
Space Plane or not. The report is written with the understanding that the audience has some
technical bac!ground and e"perience in the field of space systems and spaceflight. The
secondary audience for this analysis is #rs. Pratt a non$technical reader with basic !nowledge of
a%iation terminology.
AUDIENCE SCENARIO
(For a causal analysis of what can be done to improve controller and pilot interactions to maintain the
safety and efficiency of the national airspace system.)
As the national airspace system continues to expand, controllers and pilots will need
to work together more. The safety of the system is the single most important part of
the success of the system, yet economic reasons have placed an increasingly high
demand on keeping the system efficient as well. Controller and pilot interactions
must be improved in order to achieve a successful balance.
The primary audience for this analysis is the Federal Aviation Administration as it can
provide leadership and legislation for improving controller and pilot communication
issues. Other readers might include current and future air traffic controllers and
pilots. All readers are considered semitechnical and presumed to have a basic
understanding of aviation terms.
Audience Scenario
(For a feasibility analysis of a mission to Europa)
A mission to send an orbital craft to &upiters moon 'uropa has been high on NASAs wish list
for se%eral years. (et due to its comple"ity and conse)uently its billion$dollar price tag the
mission has beencut from the budget e%ery year and was finally cancelled indefinitely. The
recent *(+, budget proposal by the President for new initiati%es in space has re-u%enated the
idea of sending an orbiter to 'uropa to loo! for possible signs of life. Because of this the
management at NASA has re)uested an analysis of the feasibility of a manned or unmanned
mission to 'urope.
Specifically the primary audience wants to !now if the benefits of such a mission outweigh the
drawbac!s of the mission based on cost the technology need %ersus the current technology
capabilities and safety concerns for both the spacecraft and possible crew. The biggest priority
for the management is the cost of the mission as the estimated cost of the mission is almost
twice as much as the a%ailable funding. This audience has some technical !nowledge of the
aerospace industry therefore the report is written as a semi$technical document. .t includes raw
data and then a brief e"planation of the data.
