Michigan Standard I Articulation, implementation and stewardship of a vision
Goal: Develop my leadership skills and my knowledge of data to use for the school
improvement process.
Activity: (Leadership) I will share NWEA, STAR, and MEAP data to school improvement, staff
and PTO to help to set goals and change for our building to improve our students reading,
writing and math abilities.
Activity: (Participation) I will serve as the district and building administrator for the NWEA and
STAR programs.
Timeline: These activities will continue throughout the school year with periodic meetings and
groundwork between meetings with my building principal and the Director of Student Growth
and Accountability.
Support Needed: Release time, Pearson and NWEA log-ins
Michigan Standard II Sustaining a school culture and instructional program
Goal: Develop my mentoring abilities.
Activity: (Leadership) I will serve as a mentor for the new media specialist.
Activity: (Participation) I will set monthly face-to-face meetings and weekly check-in phone
meetings with the new media specialist.
Timeline: This is a two-year commitment.
Support Needed: Training of the Pathwise Mentoring program and all supplement materials to
support the Pathwise program.
Michigan Standard II Sustaining a school culture and instructional program
Goal: Contribute to the supportive culture of my school.
Activity: (Leadership) I will lead the building on a book study entitled Mindset by Carol Dweck.
Activity: (Participation) I will lead 4 staff meetings to train staff on fostering a growth mindset
and eliminating a fixed mindset.
Timeline: One-Year 4 staff meetings for the 1
st
half of the year and the 2
nd
half of the year,
writing strategies into our school improvement plan and work with staff to help changed our
students mindset.
Support Needed: Books purchased for all staff members. Release time to plan with staff and
for the staff meetings.
Michigan Standard III Management of organization, operations and resources
Goal: Increase my knowledge of the behind-the-scenes work involved in being a school
principal.
Activity: (Leadership) I will fill in for the principal when she is required to not be in the building.
Activity: (Participation & Observation) I will sit with my building administrator in planning the
beginning of the year, closing out the school year, when writing state documents, and during
our mentor meetings throughout the year.
Timeline: These activities will occur throughout the 2-year internship experience.
Support Needed: Release time, sub for the days I fill in.
Michigan Standard III Management of organization, operations and resources
Goal: I will develop a sense of organization, operation and resources during a time of crisis.
Activity: (Leadership) I will serve on the building crisis committee.
Activity: (Participation) I will help develop plans in the event of certain scenarios within a crisis
manual.
Timeline: Attend the crisis meetings held throughout the 2-year internship experience.
Support Needed: Training by counselor, guidebook through Macomb ISD crisis resources, and
release time to develop the manual.
Michigan Standard IV Collaborating with the community and responding to diversity
Goal: Develop a relationship with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at our school.
Activity: (Leadership) I will serve as the teacher liaison to the PTO.
Activity: (Participation) I will attend all evening PTO meetings and many of the PTO after school
events.
Timeline: One-year
Support Needed: Open communication with various members of the PTO.
Michigan Standard V Acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner
Goal: Develop an increased knowledge to the district hiring process.
Activity: (Leadership) I will be a member of the hiring committee for the new media specialist.
Activity: (Participation) I will sit down with the principal of the building, who is hiring, and
create all necessary screening procedures and interview questions throughout the process.
Timeline: 4 month process
Support Needed: Access to Oakland County Consortium on-line applicant screening process
called Appli-Trac and sub for me when I am needed to interview.
Michigan Standard VI Understanding, responding to and influencing the larger political,
social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
Goal: Gather and analyze school demographic data on standardized assessments; NWEA & the
MEAP.
Activity: (Leadership) I will present to PTO, staff and school improvement on the trends
associated with the data.
Activity: (Participation) I will develop graphs, charts and trends that create a picture of the
cultural context of our school.
Timeline: This analysis will occur each year throughout the 2-year internship experience.
Support Needed: NWEA district log-in, data wall, MEAP log-in, school-wide reports, release
time
Michigan Standard VII Understands and comprehensively applies technology
Goal: Train staff using technology
Activity: (Leadership) I will serve as the chair of the school iPad and technology committee.
Activity: (Participation) I will present at staff meetings new technology initiatives and will serve
as the building liaison with technology amongst staff and students.
Timeline: This training will occur each year throughout the 2-year internship experience.
Support Needed: all district technology resources; i.e., iPad & laptop carts, Chromebook carts,
computer lab and classroom technology resources.
