WORKSHOP

ON
FPGA AND
FPGA-BASED DSP DESIGN

The Department of Electronics and
Communication Engineering is organizing a
very specialized and highly demanded
Summer Workshop on FPGA and FPGA-
based Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
design using the Mathworks
MATLAB/Simulink software and Xilinx
System Generator for DSP
About The Institute
The Institute is located on NH-58 about 30
Km from Delhi on Delhi - Meerut highway.
Its close proximity to the capital of the
country provides the students with the
much essential exposure to the latest
market trends and technology.
Its 18.5 acres of area, houses our five
academic departments that cater to the
needs of the students. Well laid out labs
like VLSI Design Lab, DSP Lab, Embedded
System design Lab, Analog and Digital
communication Lab, Microprocessor Lab,
Analog Integrated Circuit Lab, Digital
Electronics Lab, PCB Design Lab,
Optoelectronics Lab, Microwave Lab, CAD /
CAM Lab, Network Lab, Electrical Lab,
Computer Lab, etc. provide the faculty,
staff and students, a chance to engage in
educational programmes dealing with
many inter - disciplinary applications.

About the Course
FPGAs are programmable semiconductor
devices that are based around a matrix of
Configurable Logic Blocks (CLBs) connected
through programmable interconnects. As
opposed to Application Specific Integrated
Circuits (ASICs), where the device is
custom built for the particular design,
FPGAs can be programmed to the desired
application or functionality requirements.
Although One-Time Programmable (OTP)
FPGAs are available, the dominant type are
SRAM-based which can be reprogrammed
as the design evolves.
FPGAs allow designers to change their
designs very late in the design cycle even
after the end product has been
manufactured and deployed in the field. In
addition, Xilinx FPGAs allow for field
upgrades to be completed remotely,
eliminating the costs associated with re-
designing or manually updating electronic
systems.

Objective
After the completion of this training
program the participants will be able to:
Describe general FPGA architectures
Configure FPGAs and verify
hardware operation
Understand why FPGAs are
preferred over DSPs to address
high-performance DSP design
implementations
Describe the basics of system
modelling using Simulink
Narrate the features of Xilinx
System generator for DSP
Model and simulate a system model
using Simulink/ System Generator

Course Highlights
The training program delivers the
following key concepts to the participants:
Introduction to System Generator
for DSP
Basic Xilinx Design Capture using
Simulink
Implementing System Control
Implementing Filter Design & perform
hardware co-simulation using System
Generator
