3.1 Stand-Alone Device
The EPT202IM modul is designed for mounting on a mounting
rail in accordance with EN 60715 TH35-7.5 or TH35-15. To
mount, press the rear mounting clamp of the device from the
bottom against the mounting rail until the mounting clamp
snaps in from the top of the mounting rail.
3.2 Connection to the EPT202 Basic Device
Proceed as follows to connect the EPT202IM modul with the
EPT202 basic device or the EPT202OL/CT additional modul:
Snap both devices very close together on the mounting rail.
Please note the two side connection plug connectors (Fig. 2/1).
Slightly loosen the grounding screw (Fig. 2/2) on the bottom
right of the EPT202 (or the EPT202OL/CT additional modul)
so that later the ground bracket (Fig. 2/3) will slide under the
head of the grounding screw after both devices are pushed
together.
Carefully push both devices against each other on the moun-
ting rail until the side D-Sub socket is completely inside the
plug connector component.
Now secure the grounding screw (Fig. 2/2).
The EPT202 basic device or the EPT202OL/CT additional modul
must be grounded in accordance with the applicable operating
instructions! (See Fig. 2/4.)
CAUTION
Mounting, electrical connection and commissioning of the
device may only be performed by qualied, trained person-
nel in accordance with these operating instructions.
The user is responsible for ensuring that the device is used
for the purposes for which it was intended.
Arbitrary and incorrectly completed work - without rst
contacting Messko - is prohibited for safety reasons!

4 Electrical Connection
The EPT202IM must be connected as shown in the connection
diagrams and wiring examples in the appendix. The individual
connections will now be described in more detail. Please note
the additional documentation which is also included. Shielded
lines should be used for all signal and bus lines.
4.1 Grounding
The device must be grounded to establish secure equipotential
bonding between housing and electronics and to divert fault
currents which can be created by EMC conditions.
Grounding of the EPT202IM in connection with the EPT202
basic device.
A secure grounding connection is established via the grounding
transition piece (Fig. 2/3). You must ensure that the EPT202
basic device is grounded in accordance with the information in
the operating instructions (see BA2076).
Grounding of the EPT202IM as a stand-alone device
When the EPT202IM is operated as a stand-alone device,
secure grounding connection must be established via the side
grounding screw. First remove the grounding transition piece
(Fig. 3/2) which protrudes from the side of the device, and
ground the EPT202IM via the side grounding connection (see
Fig. 3/1).

WARNING
Make sure that electrical connection is performed carefully.
Wiring may only be performed when all components to be
connected have been isolated from the power. Do not turn
on the power again until mounting and electrical connection
have been correctly completed.
NOTE
The EPT202IM communication modul was developed and
tested in accordance with the applicable EMC standards.
The following points must be complied with to ensure that
the EMC properties are retained.
Use shielded lines for interfaces and signal connections.
Ground the shielding in compliance with EMC on the
terminals provided for this purpose.
When potential differences are to be expected between
the grounding potentials of different devices, then only
apply the shield on one side.
When the EPT202IM modul is operated together with
the EPT202 basic device or an additional modul (e.g.,
EPT202CT), the connection between the devices must be
performed in accordance with these operating instructions.
Fig. 3
4 Electrical Connection
4.2 Voltage Supply
The EPT202IM modul is equipped with a
wide-range power pack for a voltage supply of
80265 VAC, 40400 Hz or 80353 VDC.
A power pack for 2072 VDC is available as an
option. The voltage must be connected to the
applicable terminals. Safety concerns make it
essential to connect the protective conductor.
4.3 Binary Inputs
The EPT202IM is equipped with 4
potential-free, binary inputs for
loaded contacts (80-250 VAC/DC
or optionally 20-60 VAC/DC).
The binary inputs are used to
integrate signals (e.g., oil
temperature warning of a pointer thermometer) in the process
control technology.
4.4 Sensor Inputs
The EPT202IM is equipped with 2
analog inputs. Each of the two analog
inputs can be connected to either a
current or a voltage signal. Software
is available to set whether a 4-20 mA
signal with error recognition is to be
used for passing below or exceeding the setpoints. The input
signal can also be scaled as desired as an alternate solution.
The DC current signal from 0-1 mA to 0-20 mA and the DC
voltage signal from 0-1 V to 0-10 V.
With the DC current signal, active or passive sensors can be
connected via 2-conductor technique.
Passive sensors in 2-conductor technique (e.g., pointer thermo-
meter MT-ST160SK/TT) are powered by the measuring circuit.
This is connected to terminals 10 and 11 for analog input I
and to terminals 16 and 17 for analog input II. The EPT202IM
powers the measuring circuit internally with a voltage supply
of approx. 24 VDC.
Active sensors (e.g., oil level indicator MTO-ST160/TT) are con-
nected to terminals 11 and 12 or 17 and 18.

Reverse the lines for A and B. The terminal designations A
and B are not standardized. The terminal designations of the
EPT202IM are based on Probus. The designations may differ
for other buses.
When converters are used to convert the signal (e.g., RS232
to RS485), make sure that the converter supports the signal
transmission. There may be problems with many conven-
tional RS232 to RS485 converters on the market when data
ow control of the RTS line is not controlled by the software.

5 Function Description
5 Function Description
5.1 General
The EPT202IM is used to convert simple digital and analog
signals for protocols with process control capability.
The device uses an internal dual-port RAM memory. It acquires
data and signals of the EPT202, its EPT202OL/CT additional
modul and from external devices or analog sensors connected
via the analog and binary inputs. These data are conditioned
and stored at certain addresses in the data memory. For the
data points, please see the table in the appendix (Chapter 8.6).
On the output side, certain data can be queried via one of the
interfaces (RS232, RS485, RJ45 socket or optionally via ber-
optic conductor transmitters and receivers). The controller of
the device then accesses these addresses and responds in the
appropriate protocol language.
The technical documentation for standardized protocols (e.g.,
DNP3.0) is available on request. Customer-specic protocols
can be implemented on request. The layout of the protocol and
its integration in process control should be specied by the
user and tested before serial production begins.
The protocol language must be loaded to the device by the
manufacturer. The communication parameters (e.g., baud rate
and interface) can be set via the EPT202 software or via the
EPT202 basic device.
5.2 Communication with EPT202 or EPT202OL/CT
Communication with the EPT202 basic device or with the
EPT202OL/CT additional modul (together with the EPT202
basic device) uses the 15-pin, D-Sub plug connector on the
side. Error-free data transmission between the two devices
cannot be achieved when error messages are queued on the
two above mentioned devices themselves.
The EPT202IM communication modul fetches all necessary
data from the basic device or the additional modul and con-
verts these data into the applicable protocol language. This
includes analog values (e.g., oil temperature), device states
(e.g., EPT202 connected) or error messages (e.g., oil tempera-
ture sensor defective).
5.3 Connection of Analog Sensors
The EPT202IM modul is equipped with 2 separate inputs for
analog current or voltage signals. For example, pointer ther-
mometers or oil level indicators with 4-20 mA output can
be connected to these analog inputs and thus integrated in
process control.
One of the 3 following input signals can be selected for each
input with the parameterization software.
Permanently set 4-20 mA signal with error message when
approx. 3.5 mA is dropped below or approx. 22 mA is
exceeded.
Freely scalable DC current signal, adjustable from 0-1 mA to
0-20 mA in increments of 0.1 mA.
Freely scalable DC voltage signal, adjustable from 0-1 V to
0-10 V in increments of 0.1 V.
Please make sure that the parameterized input signal cor-
responds to the output signal of the connected device.
The input signal is internally converted to a value of 0.0
100.0 % with a resolution of 16 bits and, if necessary, must be
re-converted/programmed by user (e.g., to a temperature value
of 0 - 160 C).
Error monitoring of the input signal is only done for the per-
manently set 4-20 mA signal. If the inputs are not used, these
should be set as voltage input signals (status on delivery).
5.4 Analog Values
The analog values which arrive from the basic device, the addi-
tional modul or via the two separate analog inputs may have
to be conditioned with software or re-converted. Remember
the scaling and the value range of the particular analog value.
The analog values are stored in memory with different status
messages (e.g., value is valid). If, for example, communication
to the EPT202 basic device has been interrupted or does not
even exist, all values except the two values for the analog
inputs of the IM modul are set to 0 and the values are declared
invalid. For how this status declaration is implemented in the
various protocols, see the applicable protocol description.
5.5 Binary Inputs
The EPT202IM communication modul is equipped with 4
binary inputs for the connection of contacts or similar. For
example, these inputs can be used in process control messa-
ges from microswitches warning of excess oil temperature
or insufcient oil level. These contacts must switch through
a voltage of 80-250 VAC/DC (optionally 20-60 VAC/DC). The
EPT202IM is equipped with a 44 kOhm resistor (optionally
1 kOhm) for current limitation.
Please contact Messko if special demands on minimum
switching currents are specied by the manufacturer of the
connected devices.
Example: When microswitches are not activated over a longer
period of time, the contact surfaces can become corroded par-
ticularly under extreme ambient conditions. This means that,
although the contacts still switch physically, the power is still
not enough to burn the contact surface clean if the voltage is
too low. Keep in mind the minimum switching performance of
the contacts.
The data points return a 1 when voltage is present on the par-
ticular binary input and a 0 when no voltage is present.
If, for example, a switching contact of a mechanical pointer
thermometer is connected, a 1 means that the applicable tem-
perature value was exceeded.

5 Function Description
5.6 Device Status
Information on the parameterization and the status of the
individual moduls is indicated by the different device states.
Links can be created by this to check data for plausibility.
For example, it can be useful to assume that the value of relay
contact S1 of the EPT202 basic device is valid if the device is
also connected and communication between the devices exists.
If S1 = 1 and EPT202 on = 1 then cooling stage ONAF1 =
active.
Below follows the description of the different device states:
Winding activated:
1 means that the winding temperature is activated. If 0, all
calculations and algorithms in connection to the winding
temperature are hidden.
Winding 1, 2 and 3, ambient temperature,
oil level 1 and 2 on:
1 means that the particular function is active.
OL modul, CT modul on:
1 means that the particular modul is active.
EPT202 on:
1 means that a basic device is connected to the IM modul and
the communication is functioning. If 0, there is no communi-
cation to the basic device.
Temperature test function active:
1 means that the test function for checking contacts S1-S8 is
active at the moment.
Oil level test function active:
1 means that the test function for checking the contacts for
the oil level is active.
PC test function can be activated:
1 means that the test function can be activated with the
visualization software. If 0, one of the two test functions has
already been activated from the front and thus another test
function cannot be activated in addition via the visualization
software.
Setting the time:
1 means that the time of the EPT202 basic device must be set
again. This happens when the device has been without power
for a longer period of time.
5.7 Device Errors
The monitored errors of the EPT202IM communication modul
and the connected devices can be transmitted via the error
states. This can also be used to check the plausibility of indivi-
dual values.
Example: If the oil temperature sensor is defective = 0, then
the oil temperature = the analog value oil temperature. The
active error status is 1 when one or more errors are present.
For the individual errors, see the table of data points in the
appendix in Chapter 8.6.
