The Functionality of AICAR

Posted on December 1, 2013 by Maxim Peptide

Aicar, also known as AICA ribonucleotide or by its full name of 5-
Aminoimidazole-4-carboamide ribonucleotide, is an intermediate
within the !eneration of inosine mono"hos"hate# It can sometimes
be referred to as Acadesine or $%&# It functions as an A%&-
acti'ated "rotein kinase a!onist# This means that it "romotes the
utilization of nutrient stores for the "roduction of ener!y#
The Functionality of AICAR
(cientific research conducted on animal test sub)ects has
determined that AICAR can enter cardiac cells and "re'ent the
"roduction of the enzymes adenosine kinase *A+,- and adenosine
deaminase *A+A-# The former enzyme catalyzes the transfer of the
!amma-"hos"hate from AT& to adenosine, which ser'es as a
re!ulator of a!!re!ations of both etracellular and intracellular
adenine nucleotides# The latter enzyme breaks down adenosine
which in turn is res"onsible for the turno'er in nucleic acids in
tissues# The "rocess of this "articular "e"tide acts to stimulate
!lucose u"take as well as increase the acti'ity of "./ mito!en-
acti'ated "rotein kinases 0 and 1 in the tissue of skeletal muscle# It
also su""resses a"tosis by lessenin! the "roduction of oy!en com"ounds found within the cell#
Theoretical Benefits of AICAR
Accordin! to scientific research that has been conducted on animal test sub)ects, it has been determined that
AICAR is linked to se'eral theoretical benefits#
The "rimary benefit that has been theorized in relation to AICAR is for the "rotection and treatment in relation to
cardiac ischemic in)ury# This ty"e of ailment is caused due to a restriction of blood su""ly to tissues, which in turn
causes insufficient amounts of oy!en and !lucose that is needed to conduct "ro"er cellular metabolism, that is, to
kee" the tissue found in animal test sub)ects ali'e# 2hile ischemic conditions can manifest itself throu!hout the
body in the form of ailments such as 'asoconstriction, embolism, or thrombosis, cardiac ischemic in)ury is directly
related to the heart muscle, also known as the myocardium# 2hile this condition can sometimes be asym"tomatic,
it is often marked by chest "ain brou!ht on by an!ina "ectoris, also known as a lack of sufficient blood flow to the
brain#
3ecause of the mechanisms of AICAR, scientific research on animal test sub)ects ha'e led to the determination that
the "e"tide can "otentially aid in "rohibitin! the restriction of blood flow that would otherwise be "art of an ischemic
in)ury# In the case of a cardiac ischemic condition, this would lessen the "rohibitions of blood flow to the heart
muscle, thus "artially reducin! the risk of heart failure# Additionally, it has been theorized that AICAR can be used
in con)unction with treatment in the aftermath of a heart attack brou!ht on by an ischemic in)ury# The theory here is
that it would "romote an increase in the blood flow to the heart muscle, thus stabilizin! it as it reco'ers#
4ther theoretical benefits that ha'e been linked to AICAR throu!h scientific research based on animal test sub)ects

Increased endurance 6 because AICAR assists in enablin! blood to flow throu!h the circulatory system on a
freer basis, this means that cells can recei'e ener!y more efficiently# This in turn enables for animal test
sub)ects to "erform at a hi!her le'el of acti'ity for a lon!er inter'al of time#
Increased rate of fat burnin! 6 3ecause the cells of animal test sub)ects are recei'in! ener!y on a much more
efficient basis, their bodies show a tendency to break down adis"ose tissue faster as a means to com"ensate
for this increase efficiency# (cientific research has determined that this theoretical benefit is only effecti'e if the
animal test sub)ect stays on a re!ulated diet and does not e"erience an increased intake of food#
Side Effects of AICAR
(cientific research conducted on animal test sub)ects has also yielded "otential side effects in relation to the use of
AICAR# %ost of these side effects include issues relatin! to the heart, and ha'e been theorized to ran!e from
anywhere between the de'elo"ment of defects in heart 'al'es to "ulmonary hy"ertension and the abnormal !rowth
of heart tissue#
For Scientific Research Only
It should be noted that all study and research in relation to AICAR and its functionality, o"erational mechanics,
theoretical benefits, and theoretical side effects, are all based on current clinical study built around animal test
sub)ects# It is solely intended for the use of scientific research at this time# Therefore, any findin!s or obser'ations
relatin! to AICAR7s o'erall mechanisms, o"erational tendencies, benefits, or side effects should be solely contained
to the restrictions of a strictly controlled en'ironment such as a medical research facility or a laboratory#
