Summary I am an organized, hardworking multimedia journalist skilled in copy editing and layout.

My
passion for both news and editing gives me a strong sense for accuracy and importance,
while I have a creative eye for layout and attention to detail. I work quickly but e"ciently,
double-checking my work and watching for kerning details as well as the over-all layout of the
page. I have a passion for Canadian Press style and proper editing for best practices in
journalism.


Relevant Experience General reporter, Brunswick News Inc., April 2014 - present
A summer internship at the Moncton Times & Transcript newspaper allowed me to return to a
weekly newspaper where I did general reporting on a variety of beats. I worked regularly for
the news section, but also had several pieces appear in Life & Times and the sports section. $

Multimedia journalist, The Casket Publishing September 2013 - April 2014$
I joined the Casket newspaper as a general reporter and led 8-10 stories each week, while
also doing photography, some video work, and managing the newspapers Facebook and
Twitter page (our Twitter followers tripled in my time there, and engagement on Facebook
increased signicantly.) My job also asked I take part in editing and page layout each week to
help my editor, as well as updating web content. I monitored local news for regular social
media updates, even if the news was not used in the print edition. I also worked with my
editor on ideas for a website redesign, which was expected to be completed after I left, and I
edited others work mid-week for new web content.$

General reporter, Brunswick News Inc. May - August 2013$
A summer internship at the Moncton Times & Transcript newspaper included general
reporting duties, some photography, and completion of a 5-month weekly feature in the
METRO section on zoo animals at Magnetic Hill Zoo. $

Reporting / Web Intern, The Globe and Mail April 2013$
A four week internship at the Globe and Mail allowed me to further my skills in nding story
ideas in new cities, concise writing, headline writing, and editing. I also learned how to scan

Freelance work on a regular basis for the Daily Gleaner, Riverside Neighbours, and Oromocto
Post Gazette newspapers. I pitched original ideas, was assigned stories and completed
assignments on weekly deadlines on top of full-time summer jobs / studies. I covered a range
of local, community news stories, features, arts, and sports pieces. $

Editorial Intern, Metro Guide Publishing May 2012$
A month-long internship at Halifax Magazine and East Coast Living magazine taught me how
to be an e"cient copy editor and fact checker. I also completed several articles for their 2012
summer and fall issues.$

Various freelance work for publications across the country, including Tidings Magazine, the
Thompson Citizen, the Halifax Chronicle Herald and the Hu"ngton Post. I have experience

Education University of Kings College, Halifax, Nova Scotia Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) with
Canadian Studies, 2013$
Combined Honours in Journalism and Canadian Studies. Completed my Canadian Studies
thesis in 2012 on the M.S. St. Louis and public history. My Journalism Honours project
focused on the ethics of travel writing. I completed three six-week workshops in producing a
weekly newspaper, online news and investigative journalism in my nal year. In my nal six
weeks, I worked on an investigative piece with ve other students under Fred Vallance-Jones
which was later published in the Hu"ngton Post and later received widespread social media
and political attention. $

Transitions Online, Prague, Czech Republic Foreign correspondence training, July 2013$
I traveled to Prague in July 2013 where I was taught by full-time foreign correspondents and
stringers including the BBCs Rob Cameron. This certicate program gave me the opportunity
to complete a piece of journalism while overseas, struggling to nd sources, deal with
translators and immerse myself in the culture of the country to fully understand.$

Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta
Military journalism course, May 2012$
Completion of the Canadian Military Journalism Course scholarship. The course included
classroom work on media-military relations and embedding agreements, followed by four
days on CFB Wainwright observing and interacting with military personnel.$

Sandra Phinneys travel writing course, Fredericton, New Brunswick April 2012$
Completion of a one-day course on travel writing and pitching freelance stories.$

Skills Competent with both Windows and Mac computers, and am comfortable with all social media
platforms. Am able to track analytics and provide reports on social media usage, and tips for
moving forward. $
Excellent research and writing skills, am comfortable communicating with all ages and
backgrounds, and previous communication skills include teaching at a historical village/tourist
attraction. $
Comfortable with Word application systems, Photoshop, InDesign, and all Google platforms
such as Drive, Maps and Graphs. Some understanding of HTML, and comfortable with
Wordpress platforms. $

fast-learner, who likes to keep up-to-date on industry standards, skills, and development to
