Kids with a Mission
Project Headquarters Introduction
Jesus came to this earth to teach us how to love and have more compassion for people in need.
We have created this station to educate, inform, and equip campers for mission and outreach min-
istry. Awareness is of course one of the most important aspects of this station, so we are providing
a Kids with a Mission video presentation that introduces real missionaries who are serving in coun-
tries around the world. Most importantly, this station will provide an opportunity for the campers
to become personally involved in one of two outreach mission projects. One is a local project that
will provide direct contact with someone in their community who needs helpwe are calling this
project Kids Care Kits (KCK). You will find out more information shortly. The second project is Op-
eration Bibles: Kids with a Mission (OB). We will explain this project in more detail as you progress
through this section. Our hope is that you will eventually use both programs with your church. Both
Kids Care Kits and Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission can be used at any time to offer tangible
outreach to those in needboth near and far away.
From the moment the campers walk into this station, Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters,
we pray that they will sense the urgency and excitement in the air from the staff and the characters
that will lead out. The kids will have fun as James the Mission Doctor and Dorothy the Mission
Pilot transport them to places where God is using people to make a difference for His kingdom.
Goals
To introduce campers to a variety of countries, their culture, customs, and the missionaries who
serve there.
To help kids discover how they can become missionaries for Jesus.
To introduce kids to two mission projects: Kids Care Kits and Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mis-
sion.
Mission Projects
There are two main projects for this program:
Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission This project involves collecting money to purchase Bibles
for the Native American children who live on reservations.
Kids Care Kits This project involves creating care kits for children who are ill. The kits will be as-
sembled by the campers and distributed after the program to local hospitals, clinics, and community
organizations.

served as pilot of the Piper Aztec and Beech Twin Bonanza, mission
planes operated under the Medical Aviation Programs, Inc. of the Philip-
pines, where she flew seriously ill patients from remote villages to larger
hospitals to receive medical care. Dorothy is a fun-loving mother of five
children and, currently, eight grandchildren, and she is the author of an
exciting book, Mayday Over the Arctic! In true character, she is not afraid
of anything when she is working for the Lord, and she loves to try new
things and go to new places.
James the Mission DoctorHe is a real missionary doctor who is
serving the Lord in Chad, Africa. He is a young doctor who loves to serve
the Lord with the gifts and talents God has given him. Dr. James is always
looking for a new adventure. He is sometimes silly, but also very serious
about helping people to get well and receive the care they need. Dr.
James is married to a young, beautiful wife, Sarah.
Special Mission GuestsInvite missionaries or people from your church and community who
have lived in or visited the country you are highlighting. They can talk about the country briefly or
show souvenirs or collectables for only three or four minutes.
Props
Travel posters (We have provided some with this kit or you can visit travel agencies and ask for
free ones.)
Maps, one for each country you are visiting (these can be purchased in map stores or on the Inter-
net)
Souvenirs and collectibles
Desk or table
Desk lamp
Bookcase
Boxes with stuff falling out of them (souvenirs, maps, papers, books)
Pilot hat, goggles, jacket, and satchel filled with navigation maps for Dorothy
Doctors bag, stethoscope, lab coat, and backpack for Dr. James
Costumes
Dorothy the Mission Pilot Aviator jacket and hat, goggles, satchel with maps, travel posters
James the Mission Doctor White medical jacket and physician bag, stethoscope around neck,
doctor light in pocket
Staff Members Ask your staff members to wear traditional dress from some of the countries
being visited. You dont have to match the costume with the day, but it would be fun if at least one
person was dressed in that days theme. (See the costume section in the directors manual for ideas.)
Set
The setting should look like the office of a very busy mission pilot who loves to travel, so she has
maps and travel posters all over her walls. (A map for each country you are visiting as well as a world
map.) Dorothy also loves to collect things from her travels, but unfortunately, she is so busy that she
doesnt have time to organize all her souvenirs and collectibles. They are all over the placeon book-
shelves, on the floor, on the desk, falling out of boxes. The room actually reminds you of a museum,
but you can tell that she really knows where her things are and cares about everything in the office
even though she appears to be a little eccentric and unorganized. Dorothy loves her work and is very
detailed and passionate about it. Over the door is a big sign that says Kids with a Mission Project Head-
quarters. Dorothy tells everyone who comes into her office about her mission projects and all her great
adventures.
Additional Decorating Ideas
Hang travel posters, maps, flags of the countries, and mission project posters around the room. Fill
the room with mementos, collectibles, artifacts, and other things people have collected from the coun-
tries being visited. You could also use Chinese lanterns or Japanese parasols or drape beautiful cloth
on the walls or ceiling from India, China, South America, or other countries. You could create a backdrop
on cloth of some famous landmarks from the countries being visited.
Another idea would be to hang cloth from the ceiling to form a canopy. This would make a very pretty
centerpiece or area for the campers to sit under for some of the activities or to fill the space, depending
on the size of the room. You can purchase this ready-made or do it yourself.

Kids with a Mission DVD
The Kids with a Mission DVD has been created to use in the Project Headquarters station. Each day
a different country is represented as well as a young missionary for the campers to meet. This is a very
important part of this program and will enhance your station greatly.
Daily Mission Project Schedule and Overview
Day 1 North America
Be Like Jesus
Project: Introduce the mission project you have chosen for your VBS.
OB: Introduce the campers to a child-friendly Bible (this can be purchased at your local Adventist
Book Center or at your local Christian book store.) This is an excellent time to take note of how many
campers do not own Bibles. Ask your church members to donate money to purchase Bibles for the
campers and give them when the week is over or send them as a follow-up gift.
KCK: Campers should choose a bag. If you are using muslin, the kids need to personalize it. If you
are using printed fabric, the kids need to choose a bag, the color of ribbon they want to use, and attach
their name to the project so they can work on it another day. Send home the Kids Care Kit list, letter,
and posters or flyers. Encourage the campers to visit their neighbors, friends, and relatives to help raise
money for the projects.
Day 2 Egypt
Be Like Jesus
OB & KCK: Color the John 3:16 posters and share it with someone who doesnt know Jesus.
FISH
TEACH
During the field test of our Go Fishin Mission program, the leaders of
this station were very creative. They purchased blue plastic tablecloths
and covered the four walls of the room with them. They then painted a
360-degree panoramic globe on the walls marking the region of the
world being discussed each day. This was extremely creative and very
engaging for the campers. Use an overhead projector to create the same
globe in your room!

KCK: Start assembling the Kids Care Kits.
Day 5 Papua New Guinea
Be Like Jesus
OB: Decorate and color the Go Fishin get-well card to put in the kits. Send them home with the
campers to share when they know someone is ill.
KCK: Decorate and color the Go Fishin get-well card to put in the kits. Tie the ribbon, cording, or
whatever you are using to finish the kits.
Day 6 India
Be Like Jesus
OB & KCK: Create and decorate the Go Fishin bank to save money mission projects.

Our project is called Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission, and we are collecting money to purchase
Bibles for Native American children who live on the reservations in North America. Many of these
kids are being introduced to Jesus for the first time through Natives with a Mission (NWAM) child evan-
gelism programs that are being held in many cities, towns, and villages by Native American teens. The
mission of NWAM is to prepare Native American young people to be ambassadors of the gospel to
their own nations as well as other indigenous people. Through course work, witnessing, and outreach
projects, students will focus on four components:
GraceGods gift to us,
WorshipOur gift to God,
CommunityA reflection of Gods love in our families,
ServiceA reflection of Gods love to the community.
Key to this objective is prayer and study to help them form a meaningful and lasting relationship
with the Creator and developing a personal character that reflects Him. As they identify gifts that
the Spirit has endowed to them and understand Gods call on their life, opportunities for ministry
will be available.

Kids Care Kits Project
The Kids Care Kits project was born out of an acute awareness of thousands of children who spend
hours, days, months, and sometimes years in and out of hospitals, treatment centers, and rehabilitation
hospitals all over the world. Many of these children have been seriously injured or are facing chronic
or terminal illnesses. Unfortunately, their lives will probably never be quite normal again, but we know
that Jesus would want us to bring some JOY into the hearts of these dear children. And along with
bringing JOY to the children, the campers will experience, perhaps for the first time, a kind of JOY
that only comes from learning to serve Jesus and His children.
There are a number of ways to successfully accomplish this project, and we will share a few ideas
with you. This is not just a VBS project but a church project, so go to your church family and explain
what you are doing and how they can help. We have included a list of items that can be purchased for
the kits by the families of your VBS children or by your church members.
Option 1 Your church members can buy one each of the items on the list, or they can buy the
items they would like to include in one complete kit, minus the items the kids will make during the
week. If your church members help you purchase the items, it will save a lot of time and money,
and you can have all the items in place when your program begins. Since you are running two proj-
ects at once, this is a good option.
Option 2 You can make up one kit and show it to your church members. Then put a dollar amount
on the kit saying this is how much it will cost for us to purchase all the items in bulk. Your church
members can donate the money, and you can purchase all the items needed before your program
begins. This is another great option! The campers can choose the items, assemble the bags, per-
sonalize the label, and create the get-well card. You will probably be able to put together more bags
in a shorter amount of time with this option.
Option 3 Send the letter home with the campers on the first day of your program. Ask the parents
to purchase as many items as they want to include in the kit, one per child. The kids will need to
bring in the items by Day 3.
Option 4 You and your staff decide what you want to include in the kits. You purchase, ahead of
time, all the items in bulk. We would also suggest that you visit toy stores, grocery stores, craft
stores, dollar stores, ABCs, and other Christian bookstores to look for the items. Also, dont forget
to check online as there are many resources there. You can also contact businesses and ask the
owner or manager to donate at least one of the items (in bulk) on your list. When you have all the
items you need, set up a Kids Care Kit store in your church, school, or wherever. On the first night
when the parents come to pick up their campers, give them a list of what the items cost and ask
them to talk it over as a family and decide what they want to purchase. (Please dont make a profit
on these items.) Tell the parents they can come into the store the next evening with their children
and purchase what their family has decided to put into the kits. Make sure you have plenty of paper
bags on hand so you can put the campers name on the bag when they pay for the items. If you
have items left over, you could invite your church members to come in and make up a kit as well.
Also, some of the children may want to do another bag at the end of your program if you have left-
over materials.
There are also a number of suggested items the campers can make during the craft time or in this
station, if you have the time and money. Our goal is for the kids to make at least one kit during the pro-
gram, and then they will be given the opportunity to take their kit to a child who is ill. You may want
to designate a specific mission project manager to help you get the names of the children and the kit
items organized.
Please note: Please ask the parents to take a picture of their child/children giving the Kids Care Kit
to another child; they can give or send the picture to you and you can share it with your church mem-
bers and the conference. We would also love to share the picture if you send it to us at
www.childmin.com.
13
13
We dont want this project to come to an end when your program is over. We
want to challenge you to continue collecting money for Bibles and making Kids
Care Kits until Jesus comes again.

Kid Care Kit Distribution
When you call local hospitals or agencies to find names of children who are ill, remember that the
Health Information Privacy Act of 1999 (HIPA) protects a patients privacy. They wont be able to give
you names over the phone. So we would suggest you make an appointment to visit the hospital or or-
ganization, take them a letter or flyer from the Kids Care Kit information, and share what you are doing
to involve the children in your community. The person you are talking to will have to contact the families
and get their permission to share their personal information with you. You should protect their privacy
at all times. Do not randomly give out the information. You need to appoint one person to contact the
families and make arrangements to deliver the Kids Care Kits.
Just to give you an idea of how many hospitals are out there who care for children, I typed childrens
hospitals in the United States into a Web search on my computer. Wikipedia came up with 56 pages
of information on hospitals for children. If you see a hospital in your area on the list, just click on it,
and the page will open with more information. Dont forget to check out the following:
Local childrens hospitals
Childrens rehabilitation hospitals
Local community hospitals
University hospitals
Local health agencies, cancer society, brain tumor organizations, etc.
Make-a-Wish Foundation
Local hospice office
Check your local newspaper for articles about sick children in your community
Many Harley Davidson clubs do rides for terminally ill children
Ronald McDonald House Charities have houses in 52 countries around the world. Visit their Web
site for more information about a house in your area.
Kids Care Kit Cloth Bag
Tote bags always live up to their name, whether theyre used for taking towels to the beach, fruit from
the farmers market, or gardening supplies to and from the shed. But theres no reason these humble
helpers need to look humble. The addition of a bold initial or vivid pattern can make a canvas bag
newly stylish and unique to its owner.
The Kids Care Kit bags will be given to children and should be decorated to excite kids. Start with a
plain canvas bag from a crafts store, and approach it just as you would a blank canvas. Do you want to
add a modern design? Pretty labels? Handy pockets?
Many bags can be transformed with one easy technique: ironing on a design. Vary the art or lettering
you affix. You can customize totes for different family members or specific activities.
Other add-ons involve only simple stitching. Create inside dividers with one quick trick: sew in a row
of pockets from a childrens apron. Or fashion outer pockets from fabric. You can spruce up the handles,
too. Line them with ribbon or replace them with twill tape.
If you proceed with ironing on a label, you will need the following tools and materials:
Scissors
Iron-on transfer paper (available at office supply and crafts stores)
Plain canvas tote bag
Iron
Twill tape or grosgrain ribbon for handles (optional)
Once you have these supplies, cut around the iron-on images cleanly to avoid making jagged edges.
Following the transfer-paper manufacturers instructions, print images on transfer paper in black or in
15
15
16
color, and cut them out. Arrange the image(s) on the bag, face up, for a preview (keeping in mind this
is a mirror image of the final design). When youre ready to iron, place the image(s) face down. Iron
over the image(s), starting at the edges of each and using even pressure so the image doesnt slide.
When the iron-on image(s) has cooled, remove backing paper. Replace bag handles with colorful twill
tape or cover them with ribbon, if desired.
Additional Kids with a Mission Project Ideas
Adopt a highway in your area, clean it up, and ask your state or county to put an Adopt the High-
way sign with your family or church name on it.

Dorothy: Welcome, campers, to the Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters. My name
is Dorothy the Mission Pilot, and as you can see, I have my pilot goggles, jacket,
and navigation guide, so I am ready for a great adventure today. Are you ready
for an adventure? (Allow time for the campers to respond.) There is a medical emer-
gency, so we need to leave on my Beech Twin Bonanza airplane in a little while.
Its a shame you didnt bring your suitcasesI would love to have you fly with
me! (Allow time for the campers to respond.)
Dorothy: Well, thats OK, I guess. I can still take you with me as long as you have your
camp counselor with you. Camp counselors, would you please raise your hands?
Great! I think I can fit all of you on my plane, so its a good thing you didnt bring
any extra luggage with you.
Today we are learning about North Americabut Im going to take you to a place
called Thailand. There you will meet a young girl named Joelle who comes from
North America and has moved to Thailand to be a missionary. I know many of
you have been to North America, but there may be places in North America you
may not have been to before. Did you know that Canada and Mexico are in North
America?
How many campers have been to Canada? (Allow time for the campers to respond.)
How many campers were born in North America? (Allow time for the campers to
respond.)
How many campers were born in Mexico? (Allow time for the campers to respond.)
Dorothy: I see some campers here were not born in North America. Where were you born?
(Allow time for the campers to respond.)
Dorothy: I would also like to introduce you to a very special person, James the Mission
Doctor. He will be traveling with us to help the kids who are sick today. Dr. James,
where are you? (Dr. James comes rushing to the front with his doctors bag, coat, back-
pack, and stethoscope. He looks like he has just gotten out of bed and is unorganized.)
19

Dr. James: Im so sorry Im late, but I was having problems getting all my stuff into these
bags. (Jumps in the air as if he is surprised, and turns around.) Where did all these
kids come from, and what are they doing here?
Dorothy: Well, James, they came here today to learn more about our Kids with a Mission
project, and I think they should see for themselves what people need in the world.
Dr. James: Good idea! Do they know where we are going? I forgot.
Dorothy: Did you forget we are visiting with Joelle? You must be having a hectic day! Well,
we need to get on our way; the control tower says we can take off for our desti-
nation in a minute or two.
Dr. James: OK, Dorothy. Everyone get on the plane so we can take off.
Dorothy: Is everyone ready?
Dr. James: Buckle your seat belts, and stow all your electronic stuff under your legs. Lets
go! (Have the kids go through the motions as if they are buckling seatbelts.)
Play the Kids with a Mission DVD.
Dr. James: Well, that was a great trip! It was wonderful to see a young girl from North Amer-
ica serving people from another country. Im glad we are home. Dorothy, I think
we accomplished our mission for Jesus today. What do you think?
Dorothy: Yes, Dr. James. I want to Be Like Jesus. Whats todays Fish Hook? (Wait for
campers to respond.)
Campers: !
Mission Guest: (Introduce the person or show items from North America.)
Have you ever traveled to this country before?
What did you learn about the people?
What did you learn about the country?
What did you learn about the missionaries?
FISH
How can we help the people who live there?
Dorothy: Thank you for coming today and sharing about North America. Campers, can
you say thank you? (Wait for campers to respond.)
Dorothy: Now its time for us to introduce our mission project to you. And Dr. James will
help me.
Dr. James: (He has a bag over his head.) Im ready.
Dorothy: Dr. James, what are you looking for?
Dr. James: The project.
Dorothy: I dont think you will find it in there. We are kicking off our mission project today.
The first project is Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission. For this project we will
be collecting money to help buy Bibles for kids who dont have them. Please take
this letter home. You can also take some flyers and give them to your family,
friends, neighbors, and anyone who may want to help and ask them to send in
money for this project. We will be collecting the funds all week, and we will put
them in the big bank in the Go Fishin Mission Lodge. Every day we will tell you
how much we have raised, and at the end of the week, we will make a surprise
announcement to your parents when they come to the Family Fun Event. So what
are we calling our project, Dr. James?
Dr. James: I know, just a minute, I was listening. It was . . . (looks at the campers and raises his
hands like . . . help me) Oh yes, I know, its OperationI know what an operation
is. I mean, Operation Bible: Kids with a Mission. Yeah, Operation Bibles: Kids
with a Mission. And, I have one of the Bibles in this bag. (Show the Bible.)
Dorothy: Yes, you are right. Now, listen carefully because Im going to tell you about our
second project. It is called Kids Care Kits. (Show the kit.) Inside this bag you will
find all kinds of things that kids need, but these bags are for very special kids.
The Kids Care Kits are for children who have had a serious accident or are chron-
ically or terminally ill with diseases like cancer and other illnesses.

Dr. James: And today you get to choose your bag. So please come up with your camp coun-
selor to the tables and pick out a bag. Then we will put your name on it, and you
can work on it tomorrow. (Personalize the bag if it is muslin, using fabric crayons,
paints, or markers.)
Dorothy: Dont forget, whats todays Fish Hook? (Wait for campers to respond.) !
Thats right. Way to go. Now, lets close with prayer. Dear Father in heaven, thank
you for bringing us here tonight and for helping us to learn how to be like you
and . We love you, Jesus. Amen. (Send home letters and flyers.)

Overview of Kids with a Mission Project
Step 1: Before the program begins, talk with your church family about the proj-
ects, and tell them how they can help. Put up posters in the church,
school, and each Sabbath School department. Personally visit each Sab-
bath School department and talk to the kids about helping, even if they
are not coming to the program. Also, visit the Adventurer and Pathfinder
meetings and talk to them as well.
Step 2: Build or create an offering receptacle for your church members. You can
build a Bible or a globe. For the Bible, build a large wooden box that looks
like a Bible. Make it hinged with a lock so you can get the money out.
Write Holy Bible on the top and paint it black. For the globe, purchase
a round object that you can put a slit in the top and can get the money
out of. You could make it out of a basketball painted to look like the
world. Also, use your imagination and come up with your own design.
For your campers, use a fish tank or aquarium at the front of room and
let the campers fill it with their coins each day.
Step 3: Send a letter/flyer home with each child on the first day of the program.
Step 4: Talk about the projects at the Go Fishin Mission Lodge, Go Fishin Mis-
sion Launch and during your Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters.
Step 5: Add up the money each night, and announce to the kids how much they
have raised. You could build a goal chart and mark the chart each day.

Program
Dorothy: Welcome, campers, to the Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters. For the new
campers, my name is Dorothy, and Im the mission pilot here. Yesterday we trav-
eled to Thailand to meet a young girl named Joelle from North America. We also
started our mission project (name of the project you have chosen). I hope you are
ready for some more fun today. Our theme today is Be Like Jesus .
Dorothy: (She looks at her watch.) I wonder where Dr. James is. We need to leave soon; we
have a long way to go today.
(Dr. James runs into the room, and again, he seems in a hurry and disorganized. Things
are falling out of his doctors bag.)
Dr. James: Hey, Dorothy, I am running a little bit late but better late than never . . . (he turns
slowly toward the audience) and . . . are all the campers here again today?
Dorothy: Yes, Dr. James. They had so much fun yesterday that they decided to come back
again today. And, we have a long way to go today, so we must get started very
soon.
Dr. James: We are going to Egypt today, arent we? Ive never been there before. I cant wait
to see the pyramids, the Nile River, and all the other exciting things. When do we
leave?
Dorothy: Now wait a minute, Dr. James, we are going to see those things from the air, but
remember, the reason we are going there is to take some very special medicine
along for the kids. Is that right?
Dr. James: Thats right. I have everything right here in my backpack. I cant wait to see the
kids. Im sure the hospitals in Egypt are not as up to date as our hospitals, and
we want to do all we can to help them. Is the plane ready?
Dorothy: Yes. Lets go, campers. We have a long trip ahead of us, and we decided to take
our video along today so you wouldnt be bored on our trip.

Dr. James: But wait, Dorothy. We have to learn how to say good day in the Egyptian lan-
guage. Good day, Al salaam aalaykum (Ahl sah-LAHM ah ah-LAY-koom), from the
country of Egypt.
Thats great; buckle up and dont forget to stow your stuff under your legs.
(Have the kids go through the motions as if they are buckling seatbelts.)
Play the Kids with a Mission DVD.
Dorothy: Wake up, campers; we are about to land. You can deplane in about five minutes.
Dr. James: That sure was a fast tripflying to Egypt and back in one daythats enough to
make a bird get tired! Well, campers, did you have a good time? What did you
learn about missionaries and the people of Egypt? (Wait for campers to respond.)
Dorothy: Has anyone here ever been to Egypt before? Our special guest today has been to
Egypt, and he/she wants to show you some things he/she brought back with
him/her. Lets welcome him/her.
Mission Guest: (Talks to the kids about Egypt.)
Dr. James: Lets say thank you! (Wait for the campers to respond.) That was really exciting.
Would any of you like to visit Egypt? What did you learn about Egypt? How do
you think we can help the people in Egypt?
Dorothy: Dont forget; whats our Fish Hook for today? (Wait for the campers to respond.)
Campers: !
Dr. James: Well, thats certainly something we can do for the children in Egypt. We could
teach them about Jesus! We can do that by giving money to send preachers or
buying Bibles or praying for the people who live there.
Dorothy: Its time for our Kids with a Mission project. Remember we have two projects:
TEACH
OB: We are collecting money to buy Bibles for childrendid you remember to bring
back your coin purses filled to the brim? We are going to work on another gift you
can give someone close to you here at home.
KCK: We are making Kids Care Kits for seriously injured or terminally ill children.
If you were not here yesterday you can take a few minutes to choose a Kids Care
Kit bag, and we will put your name on it. Please raise your hand if you need a bag.
Dr. James: We want to teach people about Jesus so we are going to color a John 3:16 poster
today to give to someone. You remember that John 3:16 is our Ultimate Brain
Teaser for today, and it tells people how much God loves them and how they can
be saved. Please come to the tables with your camp counselor and use the mark-
ers, crayons, or colored pencils to make your poster beautiful. And, while you are
doing that, try to think of a person you would like to give it to.
(Give the campers time to complete the project. While the campers are working on their
projects, find a camper who would be willing to have closing prayer.)
Dorothy: You did a wonderful job on your posters. _____ is going to have prayer for us be-
fore you go to your next station. (Have the camper pray.) Remember, Be Like
Jesus and ! TEACH

Program
Dr. James: Welcome back, campers, to the Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters. We
visited with a young girl from North America on our first trip and then flew to
Egypt on our second. Does anyone know where we are going today?
(Dorothy runs into the room and up to the desk. She starts looking for something under
the piles of stuff on her desk. It seems that she isnt aware that James is already there.)
Dr. James: Miss Dorothy? (She about jumps out of her skin.)
Dorothy: Why, Dr. James, I didnt realize you were already here. You beat me today
whats wrong?
Dr. James: Nothing, I got up early, and I have everything ready to go. The door was unlocked
so I came in to see the campers.
Dorothy: Oh, good. (Seems distracted.) Im trying to find the flight plan I filed yesterday. I
know I put it here on my desk. Oh, I think it fell on the floor. Here it is. Dr. James,
we are going to Brazil today to meet a little girl named Vitoria. Can you believe
she even has a pet toucan. We will start the trip in our plane and then switch to
a plane with pontoons so we can taxi right up to her home on the Amazon River.
Dr. James: I hear they have man-eating catfish in the Amazon RiverI hope they dont eat
airplanes!
Dorothy: Im sure we will be OK. Are you ready to go?
Dr. James: Are we inviting the campers to go with us to such a dangerous place? If we are,
I need to teach them how to talk to Vitoria. (Turns to the campers.)
Dr. James Lets go through this once after we buckle up our seatbelts. Heres how we say hello,
good morning, and good afternoon in Portuguese, the official language of Brazil.

Dorothy: Five minutes until landing. Wake up and get your things ready to deplane.
Dr. James: That was a really exciting trip. Did you have a good time learning about Vitoria
and her home in Brazil? What was the most exciting thing you learned? (Wait for
the campers to respond.) Thats what I guessedthe boys probably liked the snakes
and catfish, and the girls liked meeting Vitoria and her toucan.
Dorothy: Im so glad we were able to take some Bibles to Vitoria for her mission project.
Im sure her friends will love the Bibles. She sure is a brave little girl. Im not sure
I would travel on that river by myself at her age. What do you think, kids? Is she
brave? (Wait for the campers to respond.)
Dr. James: Well, I know we have a lot of brave campers in this room. Who is brave? And
Im sure, Miss Dorothy, that all the kids in this room want to tell their friends
about Jesus, too. Do we have a special guest today?
Mission Guest: (Talks to the kids about Brazil.)
Dorothy: Lets thank our guest. Thank you!
Dr. James: OB: Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission is our big project this week, and I was
told that more money has come in. Who brought money today? Thank you! Come
over to the table and lets make a label that will go in the cover of each Bible we
send out.
(Have the kids personalize the label for the Bibles by adding stickers or coloring them
with markers, crayons, or colored pencils. Collect them before the campers leave for the
next station.)
KCK: We are going to work on our special labels for our Kids Care Kits today.

Dorothy: Hello, campers, lets practice todays Be Like Jesus theme. Let me hear you.
What is it? (Wait for the campers to say .) Good job.
Dorothy: Its another beautiful day at the Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters, and
Im so happy you are here with us today. We are having a busy time traveling to
distant lands, and Im curious as to which one has been your favorite so far this
week. (Wait for the campers to respond.)
Dr. James: Well, my favorite place was Egypt, but I really liked Brazil, too. (Dr. James is sitting
in the audience at the back of the room.)
Dorothy: Hello, Dr. James. What are you doing back there?
Dr. James: Oh, I was having fun back here with the campers, and I wanted to surprise you.
Dorothy: Come up here, because we have exciting things to talk about.
Dr. James: Where are we going today?
Dorothy: This will be our longest trip yet. Probably more than 20 hours in the air. Were
flying to Indonesia, which is right here on the map. (Locate the country and point
to it on the map.) See?
Dr. James: Wow! We better get started, or we wont make it today. I guess we will have to
fly all night to get back in time. Actually, we need some extra stuff because
Im going to work on the mission launch for a few days. There are thousands
of people all up and down the rivers there who cant get to a doctor, so Im
going to help. I wonder if our campers would like to come along and help com-
fort all the sick kids?
Dorothy: What do you think, kids? Are you ready to go to Indonesia to help on the mission
launch? If so, buckle your seatbelts, and lets begin.

Dorothy: Sit back and relax; here we go!

Dr. James: That was one of the most exciting things I have ever done. Did you see the eyes
of the little kids who we helped on the mission launch? They were so thankful
for the comfort you gave them. How do you feel when someone comforts you?
(Wait for the campers to respond.)
Dorothy: Can you imagine how the people felt when Jesus healed them? We cant heal
people, but we can help people who are sick by reading to them, taking them
flowers, taking them food, sharing our toys, sending them a card, or giving them
a (Bible/Kids Care Kit).
Dr. James: Thats right; we can take them a (Bible/Kids Care Kit). Im sure there are a lot
of children who would enjoy getting a nice gift.
OB: Do any of you have a favorite Bible verse? I have some cards, markers, and
stickers on the table. Why not write down your favorite Bible verse and we will
share it with the Bibles! Camp counselors, we need your help with this.
(Have the camp counselors help the campers find appropriate verses if they need help.)
KCK: Today, we are going to put together the Kids Care Kits. Come over to the
tables, and we will show you how to put together the kit you are making.
(Help the campers assemble the Kids Care Kits. While this is going on, find a camper
who is willing to offer the closing prayer.)
Dorothy: I cant wait to see the faces of the kids when you give them the (Bibles/Kids Care
Kit). Do you think it will make them feel happy and comforted to know we are think-
ing about them? When we help people to feel better, is it a form of comfort?
Dr. James: There is a special guest here today who would like to share some things with us.
Mission Guest: (Talks to the kids about Indonesia.)
Dorothy: Lets thank our guest for coming today.
Dr. James: I challenge each of you to look for ways you can Be Like Jesus and bring
to people in need. _____ has agreed to have prayer for us today. COMFORT

Dorothy: Hello, campers, welcome to the Kids with a Mission Project Headquarters. I hope
you are having lots of fun this week at our Go Fishin Mission Adventure Camp.
Dr. James, are you having fun?
Dr. James: Yes, Im having a great time this week. I will be sad when the week is over. Are
we going on a trip today? If so, I need to go get my stuff.
Dorothy: Sure. We are taking the campers to a country way over on the other side of the
world. Its called Papua New Guinea, and its an island in the middle of the Pacific
Ocean not far from Australia. I wonder if there is a camper here who can find the
island on the map?
Dr. James: Let me pick two campers so they can help each other. (Allow time for the campers
to come up and look at the map.)
Dorothy: Thats great! Yes, the island is right here on the map, and we are right here on
the map. We have to fly this way to get to the island. It will take many hours, so
we better get started. Is everyone ready?
Dr. James: We need to practice saying hello first. There are a number of languages spoken
on the island, but we are going to learn the most popular one. Pidgin English is
what some people call it. Gude (goo-DAY) from Papua New Guinea!
Dorothy: Fasten your seat belts, and lets get ready to take off.
(Have the kids go through the motions as if they are buckling seatbelts.)
Play the Kids with a Mission DVD.
Dr. James: I must admit that its hard to believe that people live such primitive lives, but I
learned a lot about the people in Papua New Guinea. They are friendly people,
and isnt it wonderful that we are able to give them cool fresh water with our gifts
of lovethe money we send to them.

38
Dorothy: I think sometimes we forget that there are a lot of people in the world who dont
even have the simple things that make life more bearable, such as comfortable
beds, clean water, books to read, good food to eat, a toy to play with, and medical
care and medicines to help make you well. Those are just some of the things we
take for granted because most of us have everything we need and much more
than we really need.
Dr. James: You are right; we do take some things for granted. Today we are going to make
a get-well card to share and show love to people who are sick or need encour-
agement.
OB: You can take your card home and share it with someone you knowmaybe
a friend or family member who is not feeling well.
KCK: You can put your card into the Kids Care Kit, or you can make it for some-
one else you know who is sick. Come over to the tables with your camp coun-
selors, and lets work on the cards.
(Give the kids plenty of time to personalize and color their get-well card with markers,
pencils, crayons, and stickers.)
Dorothy: Do you remember todays Be Like Jesus theme? (Wait for the campers to re-
spond.) Thats right. . Great job.
Dorothy: Remember, campers, Jesus showed us how to love, and we want to do all we can
to love people and accept them for their differencesthats what makes them
unique and special.
Dr. James: Lets pray that Jesus will help us to love everyoneeven those who are different
than us.

Dr. James: Hello, campers, its so good to see you again. Are you getting tired traveling
around the world? I didnt think so. I love traveling. There are so many interesting
and exciting places in the worldits hard to choose which one to like the most.
(Dorothy walks into the room with a newspaper in her hands; she seems to be reading
something.)
Dr. James: Dorothy, what are you reading?
Dorothy: Well, its the story about a little girl who lives in India; her name is Menke. I think
the campers already heard the story today at the Go Fishin Mission Lodge, but
now we have the opportunity to go to her country and take medical supplies to
the people who live there.
Dr. James. Were going to India today? Wow, I guess we better go pack our stuff. India is a
long way from here, and we will need extra stuff so we can stay several days.
Dorothy: I wonder if anyone in the room knows where India is? Has anyone here ever been
to India?
Dr. James: My grandfather was a missionary in India.
Dorothy: Really? Well, you will have to share some stories with us some day. Im sure there
are a lot of good ones. But right now, Menke is waiting for us to arrive with med-
icine, so we better hurry.
Dr. James: Lets practice hello in Hindi, which is the official language of India. Hello in Hindi

Dr. James: Ive always wanted to ride on an elephant. Wasnt that fun? Its hard to believe
people still use elephants to do work when we use bulldozers to do the same jobs,
but the elephants dont seem to mind that they are helping their master.
Dorothy: Speaking of helping, our Be Like Jesus theme for today is . There are
many ways we can help people. What do you think, campers? How do we help
people like Jesus did? (What for the campers to respond.)
Dr. James: OB: I know another way we can help people. We can save our money and buy
Bibles for the Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission project. Today we are going
to make a bank so we can remember to save our money for this project.
KCK: I know another way we can help people. We can save our money and buy
small gifts to share with people who need to be encouraged. Today we are going
to make a bank so we can remember to save our money for this project.
HELP
How to Make a Paper Bank for Kids
These cute paper banks will help kids remember to save their money for outreach
projects such as Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission or Kids Care Kits for very
sick children.
Step 1: Measure and cut a piece of paper to cover each of the containers. Wrap
the paper around each container; glue in place. Decorate each with stripes
and shapes of paper or stickers.
Step 2: With a black marker, write the words save, spend, and give on indi-
vidual strips of paper. Glue the spend label to the largest container,
save to the middle size, and give to the smallest. Or make your own
decision about which label should go on which container!
Step 3: Ask a grown-up to carefully cut slots big enough for a quarter to fit
through in the center of the plastic lids.
42
Dr. James: That was a lot of fun. I hope you will take your bank home and remind your family
to help you fill it up for our Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mission project.
Dorothy: Yes, I cant wait to see our aquarium fill up with money. Lets ask Jesus to bless
our efforts as we save our money for His workteaching others about Jesus.
Lets pray.

Adventure Camp. What has been your favorite thing to do this week? And here
comes Dr. James carrying something. Lets see what he has. (Dr. James comes
walking to the desk with a Bible and an African drum in his arms.)
Dr. James: Hi, Dorothy and campers. I heard such an exciting story in the Go Fishin Mission
Lodge today about a school that was saved from the storm. Im holding in my
hand an African drum because thats where the story took place and a little birdie
(points to Dorothy) told me that we are going there today. (Turns to the campers.)
What do you know about Africa? (Wait for the campers to respond and respond to
what they are saying.)
Dorothy: Africa sounds exciting. We are going there today to take Bibles to kids who
dont have them. You remember our project Operation Bibles: Kids with a Mis-
sion? Well, we have found a lot of kids who need Bibles, so we better get
started. Dr. James, do you have your doctors bag? I know there are some re-
ally sick kids there as well, and we may need lots of medicines to help make
them well.
Dr. James: Where are we going in Africa?
Dorothy: Cote dIvoire is the name of the country. Some people know the country as the
Ivory Coasthere it is on the map. You work at a hospital in Africa, Dr. James.
Where is the hospital located?
Dr. James Its in the country of Chadright here on the map.
Dorothy: Is your wife, Sarah, still there now?
Dr. James: Yes, thats her picture there on the wall with the children.
Dorothy: Well, kids, lets get ready to fly. Dr. James, do you know how to talk to the African
children when we get there?
Dr. James: They speak French in that country, so lets practice. Hellobonjour!
Dorothy: Were about to take off. Say a prayer, Dr. James, and buckle up, everyone. Stow
your stuff under your legs. Africa, here we come.
(Have the kids go through the motions as if they are buckling seatbelts.)
Play the Kids with a Mission DVD.
Dr. James: Ive always heard that once you have been to Africa your life will never be the
same. What do you think, kids? Does it look like a great place to visit to share
Jesus love? (Wait for the campers to respond, and answer their questions or comment
on what they say.)
Dorothy: Dr. James, you know, all this week we have been saying Be Like Jesus in every-
thing we do. We want to , , , , , and today,
we are talking about prayer. Be Like Jesus . . . (Motion for the campers to respond
with the answer Pray.)
Dr. James: Thats right, . I have a great new project for the campers to work on
today: a prayer journal. (Hold one up.) As you can see, I already personalized
mine because I couldnt wait to get started on my prayer list. (Point to the first
page.) This column is for your prayer list, this one for things you are thankful
for, and this one for answered prayer. We have also given you a page for any-
one you want to pray foryour church, your president, our country. The sec-
ond page is for your family, the third page is for your friends, the fourth page
is for people around the world, and the fifth page for special requests, such
as people who are sick or have been in an accident. What do you think, Miss
Dorothy?
Dorothy: I love it! Im going to make one, too. What do you think, campers? Are you ready
to start on your prayer journal? You know, sometimes we cant help people get
out of trouble or heal their sick bodies, but we can always pray for them. Camp
counselors and campers, please come over to the tables so we can work on our
prayer journals.

Dr. James: You sure made beautiful prayer journals today. I cant wait to see how you fill up
the pages. You know, Jesus loves to answer our prayers, and He will be so happy
to have you talk to Him every day. You may want to keep your prayer journal be-
side your bed. Before you go to bed each night, look at your list and pictures and
pray for the people.
Dorothy: And speaking of prayer, do you have any prayer requests today? (Give the children
time to talk.) Lets talk to God about all the things on our prayer list.

Dorothy: (Dr. James and Dorothy are standing by the desk as the children come in. They are
looking intently at a map. When the campers are seated, Dorothy turns and speaks.)
Be Like Jesus . . . (Wait for the campers to respond with .)
Dr. James: Im really sad today, but Im happy also. Does that make sense?
Dorothy: Sure, Dr. James. You are sad because this is our last mission adventure trip, but
you are happy because we are going to Romania, which is a beautiful country in
Europe. Here it is on the map. (Point to it.)
Dr. James: Yes, youre right. Ive always wanted to go to Romania. I hear the country is full
of beautiful scenery, majestic mountains, good skiing, castles, forts, and lots of
quaint villages filled with friendly people. That sounds really great. Is the plane
ready to go yet?
Dorothy: Yes, its ready to go, but we need to stow all our stuff on the plane and get the
campers on board. They look pretty tired today, so perhaps they will take a nap
after the DVD plays.
Dr. James: Lets practice speaking in Romanian so we can greet the kids when we get there.
Good day is Buna ziua (BOO-nuh ZEE-wa).
Dorothy: Buckle up, and lets move out!
(Have the kids go through the motions as if they are buckling seatbelts.)
Play the Kids with a Mission DVD.
Dr. James: How did you enjoy the trip, Dorothy? Wasnt that a beautiful country? And the
kids and adults were so friendly. I could have stayed there . . . forever!
Dorothy: Forever? That sounds like a long time. But you know, God tells us in the Bible
that we will live with Him forever in heaven. How does that sound? No pain, no
sickness, no fighting, no sin, no hurting . . . and everything will be beautiful, shiny
BELIEVE
and clean, warm and sunny, all the time. We will be happy all the time, with
enough food and water, and we will never have to sleep for it will only be day
there, no night. WOW!
Dr. James: And the Bible says there will be streets of gold, gates made out of pearls, beautiful
rivers, flowers that will never die, and animals that wont be afraid or hurt us.
That really sounds like paradise. And, you know what, we can always believe
what the Bible says because it came from God to man. Campers, what do you
think heaven will look like? (Listen to what they have to say.)
Dorothy: Today, we are going to create a picture of heaven to share with someone. Camp
counselors, please bring your campers to the table, and lets create some awe-
some pictures.
(Give the kids time to create a picture of heaven.)
Dr. James: OB: Thank you for making such beautiful cards. You can take the picture home
and share it with a friend in your neighborhood who needs to learn about heaven.
Make sure you write your first name on the paper.
KCK: Thank you for making such beautiful cards. You can put the card into your
Kids Care Kit or give it to someone who is sick or who needs to learn about
heaven. Make sure you write your first name on the paper.
Dorothy: Campers, we hope you had fun on our trips around the world. We will be praying
for you and your families. In fact, lets have a final closing prayer right now. (Offer
a prayer of dedication.) Thank you for visiting usI hope you had a wonderful
week. I sure did.
Dr. James: Bye, everyone. You have been great. Thank you for your help and encouragement.
