CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION


A. Background
To pull together the theory practice of English for Specific Purpose, drawing on our
respective experience in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Occupational
Purpose (EOP), and in different parts of the world. Between us we have lived and worked in a
large number of countries in every continent of the world except-sadly-Australia.
The particular aim describing recent developments in English for Specific Purpose
(ESP), especially in the areas of content or language integration and the growth of Business
English. ESP has continued to grow and expand into other areas despite occasional rumour of its
death and now has a healthy body of research, publication and teaching materials.
