Terminology

Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Is one of the nomenclatures in the implementation of the K t o 12
Basic Education Program (BEP)
Image Editing The processes of altering images, whether they are digital photographs, traditional analog
photographs, or illustrations.
Photo Retouching Using tools such as an airbrush to modify photographs or editing illustrations with any tradional
art medium. It is also known as, Traditional Analog Image Editing.
Graphic Software Programs are the primary tools with which a user may manipulate, enhance and transform
images.
Cropping When you cut out distracting background, or a clutter of irrelevant objects around the subject of your
photo stands out better.
The Rule of Thirds Divides the image into thirds, Horizontally, Vertically and The Intersecting Lines.
Resizing and Compression To resize and compress it to the optimum size for the use you intend it for.
Resolution Refers to the number of dots per inch (dpi) that appear in your images final form.
Pixels The dots that are used to determine length.
Correcting Generalized corrections need to be made after downloading files from your computer.
Sharpening or Softening Last of the global corrections that are often applied to digital images.
Raster Images Stored in a computer in the form of a grid of picture elements, or pixels.
Photoshop Document (.psd) The file format in which Photoshop saves documents by default.
Layers Photoshop documents are composed of layers.
Selections Refers to regions in an image that will be affected by the various tools.
Color Mode Refers to the types of colors you will be using in your image. CMYK and RGB are the most
important of these modes to be familiar with.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) The setting for images that will be printed to paper.
RGB (Red, Green, Blue) Three channel color mode suitable for images to be viewed on the web.
Screen Resolution Close to 72 pixels per inch.
Adobe Photoshop Seriously powerful photo and image editing application.
Panes All sorts of information are displayed in these panes.


Menus Most familiar interface elements to a new Photoshop user.
File Menu It lets you open and close documents with a few extras including import, which deals with scanning,
and save for web.
Edit Menu Houses all of the expected options as well as fill and stroke, and other image-altering functions.
Image Menu You will find color adjustments, size adjustments, and any other changes you need to make globally
when working with Photoshop file.
Layer Menu Allows you to make changes to an image without altering your image data.
Select Menu Deals with selections you make/
Filter Menu Allows you to apply filters to any part of your image.
View Menu Where you can change the view settings.
Window Menu To toggle back and forth between hide and show for each interface element.
Help Menu Includes resize image and export transparent image.
Option Bar- located directly underneath the menus is a useful tool when working with the different Photoshop tools.
