The survey shall be carried out in conformity with IRC: SP-19, using rapid survey techniques such as GPS and Total Station and shall produce three-dimensional data. The data required is i) for the centreline of the road, full ROW subject to a minimum of 30m to either side of the centreline. At junctions with existing Project Road, an area of minimum 200m radius on all four sides has to be surveyed.
Traverse (co-ordinate close): Fractional misclosure of 1/5,000 or better- (i) Levelling: Limit of accuracy to be 20 mm*(K) 1/2 -(where K is the circuit distance levelled in kilometres).
This detailed survey will collect data so that a Digital Terrain Model may be created for use in the highway design program. In order to create a digital terrain model for design purpose, survey data will be collected as strings or points, as appropriate. However the interval at which data is collected along the string will be dependent on the terrain, ie for long flat areas with little variation of slope, a maximum interval of 20 m is required. In areas of undulation or bad road surface the interval would be reduced to, 10 or less depending on the degree of irregularity, terrain and curvature of existing road alignment. To establish firm vertical control for location, design, construction, permanent bench marks should be established at intervals of 1 km and temporary bench marks has intervals of 250m and at or near all drainage or underpass structures.
2.0 Topographic Survey Details
The survey shall include all structures, break lines, etc. The survey shall include the following points. (F): Full survey. (P): Pavement Survey.
Centre line, carriageway edges, shoulder edges, Drain details and toe of the slope of existing roads (F+P) ROW on either side of the road (F) Points 5m beyond ROW (F)
Following land features shall be captured and not limited to the following.
Trees (position, species and girth measured 1.2 m from ground level) (F): Tree Species. Building fronts or outlines where they encroach within the corridor 25 m on either end (to be classified by construction type). (F) Building/commercial establishment names shall be indicated in the drawing. Type of building such as temporary/permanent, no. of stories, and basement details along with building name. Water bodies, streams, canals and ditches etc. Utilities, such as electricity, telephone, water supply, boreholes, etc. If underground utilities can be identified by inspection and manhole covers, they will be recorded. Drains and Nallahs and pipelines shall be shown with bed levels and HFLs Culverts and bridges note bridge survey to be limited to carriageway width, footpath, overall width and abutment outline. All pertinent road details centreline of carriageway, hard shoulder edge, soft shoulder edge, embankment / cutting edges top and bottom, side drains, footpath, signs, km posts, etc. Land Use and ROW Demarcation by compound wall/wire fence/field bund etc. shall be presented. At all curves, the cross sections to be taken at closer intervals At sharp curves (existing curve radius <500m), additional spot levels to be taken on the inside of the curve for a minimum additional width of 70m from existing road edge to allow for realignment. Likewise where there are existing reverse curves, additional spot levels should be taken on the inside of both the curves (keeping in view the possible straightening of the alignment) For all major junctions and minor junctions, levels up to 200m along the cross road from the main carriageway intersection should be taken and up to 15m from the existing shoulder edge on both sides of the major junctions and minor junctions, side road destination shall be given in the drawing. At all major intersections additional features coming within the impact area should be recorded. For all culverts, invert levels on upstream and downstream sides have to be recorded together with another string joining the centreline of both parapets. For all bridges, the stream centreline together with levels of top and bottom of banks for a length of 50m upstream and downstream should be recorded. Wherever the existing road width (blacktop surface) is more than 3.5m wide, an additional spot level is to be taken between the centreline and edges of the blacktop road. Hard shoulder edges (surfaces with WBM or WMM or just metaling) are to be recorded separately and assigned a unique string label as per standard code. These strings can be discontinuous, i.e they have to be picked up only where they exist. Soft shoulder edges and embankment toes need to be continuous invariably for a particular road section. Railway level crossings (F+P). Any crossing by road or rail (F+P). Electric transformers, mast, tower, etc. All telephone lines, OFC lines, Private OFC lines, Water Pipes above and below the ground belonging to Towns, Villages, Zilla Panchayats and other bodies, Electricity lines. Pump house, bore well, well etc. All boundary pillars state, district, taluk, villages etc marked in the drawing. The legends for surveying and preparation of plans shall conform to that of Survey of India
The width of the survey corridor will be increased to collect data such as existing road junctions and stream beds, where the adjoining road/ stream bed will be surveyed for a distance of 100m to a width of 50m from centreline on either side. Building outlines will be surveyed where they encroach into the ROW as defined in the data sheet.
The items to be picked up during the survey will include, and not be limited to, the following:
Levels along the alignment shall be taken at every 20m intervals and at all intermediate breaks along the centre line of the alignment. Spot levels shall be recorded at critical points.
Cross sections shall be taken at intervals of 20m, reduced to 10m on sharp curves / Rolling Terrain. Cross sections shall also be taken at the centre line of all streams.
River/Channel cross-sections shall be taken at every 10m interval up to a distance of 50m on u/s and d/s from the edge of the road. The checked survey data will be presented in Mx Road/Civil 3D/Auto CADD acceptable format along with a check plot. The easting, northing and elevation data will be presented in meters to the UTM43 projection.
Base Plan with all details (Building/Commercial establishment names, Village/settlement names, Road names, Cross Road destination, Type/Details of structure, Km stone number, River/Stream/Nala names, Irrigation canal names, etc.) to be checked and all the details shall incorporated in the drawing.
Accuracy
Leveling accuracy to 12K mm, where K = kms of level run.
