Grade V Prepared by: Jecil E. Arbiso I- Objectives At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to: Learn the different parts of the water cycle through the experiment. Observe the experiment. Explain each part of the water cycle. Value integration: Take good care of the ecosystem. II- Subject Matter A. Topic: Water Cycle B. References: PELC Science and Health Book Internet (www.google.com) C. Materials: small chalkboards, glass jars Cups of ice, tubs of water food coloring III- Procedures A. Motivation: (Pre-activity) The teacher will ask to her pupils if they experienced playing in the rain and wonder where it comes from. Teacher allows her pupils to share their experiences and how it feels. B. Presentation: Discuss the terms precipitation, evaporation, and condensation to determine prior knowledge and help pupils gain an understanding of the process of the water cycle. Tell the pupils that they are going to observe the experiment to learn more about the water cycle.
C. Discussion: (Activity) 1.) Evaporation (Fill a jar one-half full with water. Add the cup of ice to your jar. Add two drops of food coloring to the jar). Notice what happens to the jar after 10 minutes). Have the pupils answer the following questions: What do you see on the outside of the jar? Is the water on the outside of the jar cooled? Did the water come from the inside of the jar? Explanation (The water vapor on the outside of the jar was cooled off and condensed to form liquid. This is an example of how water vapor is cooled off and condenses in clouds) 2.) Evaporation (Let the pupils wet a sponge and wipe it once on their chalkboards. Let them noticed what happens after a few minutes have passed) Have the pupils answer the following question: Is the water still there? What happened Explanation (The water evaporated. It changed from liquid to a gas. This is an example of how water evaporates into the sky). 3.) Precipitation (Completely saturates or fills a sponge with as much water possible. Have them hold it above a tub of water). Have the pupils answer this question. What do you noticed happens? Explanation (The sponge will leak water. This is an example of how the clouds in the sky get so full of water that eventually the water falls and we have precipitation.) D. Application: Pair the pupils with a pair. One partner will do the activity again and let her partner explain the observed experiment if she absorb the discussion of her teacher. E. General Meaning Water Cycle (also known as the hydrologic cycle) is the journey water takes as it from the land to the sky and back again. Evaporation is when the sun heats up. Condensation is when your water vapor in the air gets cold. Precipitation occurs when so much water. IV- Evaluation Identify the following.(water cycle, condensation, evaporation, and precipitation)
___________1.) It occurs when so much water has condense in the air. ___________2.) It occurs when it changed from liquid to a gas. ___________3.) Occurs when so much water has condense. ___________4.) A journey where water takes as it circulates from the land. ___________5.) Water cycle is also known as _____________. V- Assignment Bring with you your water cycle chart.
