I MICROWAVE LINKS - STANDARD FUNCTIONS







Studying point to point profiles is primordial to relevant radio network implementation. ICS
Telecom allows to create point to point profile and to optimise the path budget.


In this chapter, you will learn how to:




Create a microwave link.


Analyse path budget.


Optimise path budget.

1 Set the propagation Model (see General document, part III A 2).

2 A Select the point to point icon .


B Left click on map the two heads of the wanted MW Link.



3 A Enter technical parameters of the link: name, power, antenna patterns,..

B Choose Pattern for the two stations of the link. Check orientation.




C View information of site location. Check path validity.

D Customize Antenna defining precisely, microwave, connectors, cabling, antenna
parameters.
Click on every part of the chain to customize it.




4 Repeat process 3 for creation of other MW links.

B Anal yse pat h budget




1 Select corresponding MW Link in List/Microwave link list. Double left click and select wanted profile.


2 A Check transmitted power, received power, diffraction

B Decompose the losses (Free space, Diffraction, Rain, Gaz, Subpath).




C Display field strength propagation in free space .

D Analyse Multi-k influence. .

E Analyse clearance .

F Analyse reflections (space diversity) .



F Analyse precisely path (or radio) budget. Click on .

1 Clear the Fresnel zone. Left click . Enter Fresnel Zone
and OK.
Tool gives you Tx, Rx height for clearance.

2 Change the heights of the transmitter and the receiver .

Enter new heights .



3 Add a passive and back to back reflector. Go back to List/Microwave link list.
Right click on one link and select Parameters. Go to 'General Sub-menu'.

A Check .

B Enter coordinates for reflector .


C Enter passive height .

C1 Passive reflector- Enter Passive surface .

C2 Back to back. Enter Gain .

D Check new profile on the link.




4 Add second antenna for space diversity if needed.

Go back to List/Microwave link list.
Right click on a link and select Parameters. Go to 'General Sub-menu'.


Define heights of second antennas :

5 Add second frequency for frequency diversity if needed.

Go back to List/Microwave link list.
Right click on a link and select Parameters. Go to 'General Sub-menu'.

Once you have designed your microwave link network, ICS TELECOM allows you to
study the performances of your network.


In this chapter, you will learn how to:



Make microwave links frequency assignment.


Estimate the interference level.

1 Use Microwave menu and choose Assignment/Threshold impairment rule.





2 In the following window, check List assignment.

3 Click on List and fill the low and high frequency band. This list concerns the avaiable
frequencies in the band. Then click on OK.





4 Click on START.

B B1 Left click on . Selected links are considered as
wanted.

C Check the IRF factors and left click on OK.

2 Second method

A Use Microwave menu and choose interference .

B Check in the following window the case you are interested in. For example, TI
method, All stations/mws -> mws.





C Click on IRF and check the IRF factors and left click on OK.




D Click on OK to start calculation.
