Compression Files

These extensions are quite common and mean that your file(s) are compressed into an
archi!e.
This is "ust a way of ma#in$ the files more compact and easier to download.
To open any of those archi!es listed a%o!e you can use &in'(' ()a#e sure you ha!e
the latest !ersion) or *ower(rchi!er.
+f those pro$ams aren,t wor#in$ for you and you ha!e a .zip file you can try &in-ip
(Trial !ersion).

These are usually comic %oo#s in an archi!e format. a .c%r file is actually the same thin$
as a .rar file and a .c%z file is the same as a .zip file. .owe!er/ often when openin$ them
with &in'(' or &in-ip it will disorder your pa$es. To display these archi!es properly

These are your standard ima$es of a C0/ and are used quite alot these days. To open them
you ha!e a couple options. Dou can %urn them usin$ Eero (Trial 1ersion) or (lcohol
1B0F/ %ut this pro!es to %e soooooooo pro%lematic for a lot of people. Dou should also
consult this tutorial for %urnin$ ima$es with !arious software pro$rams Dou can also use
0aemon Tools/ which lets you mount the ima$e to a !irtual cd:rom/ so %asically it
tric#s your computer into thin#in$ that you ha!e another cd:rom and that you,re puttin$ a
cd with your ima$e file on it into this !irtual cd:rom/ it,s $reat cuz you,ll ne!er ma#e a
%ad cd a$ain/ (lcohol 1B0F also sports a !irtual cd:rom feature. Finally/ if you,re still
stru$$lin$ to access the files contained within any $i!en ima$e file you can use C0)a$e
to extract the files and then %urn them/ or "ust access them from your hard dri!e. Dou can
also use 1C0Gear to extract the mpe$ contents of a 31C0 or 1C0 ima$e file such as
%inAcue.
.iso
(nother type of ima$e file that follows similar rules as .%in and .cue/ only you extract or
create them usin$ &in+3= or +3=2uster. 3ometimes con!ertin$ a pro%lematic .%in and
.cue file to an .iso can help you %urn it to a cd.

(ll these files $o to$ether and are in the CloneC0 format. CloneC0 is li#e most other
C0:2urnin$ pro$rams/ see the .%in and .cue section if you,re ha!in$ pro%lems with these
files.
=ther Files
.txt .doc
These are text files. .txt files can %e opened with notepad or wate!er you default text
editor happens to %e/ and .doc are opened with )cft &ord.
.nfo
These contain information a%out the file you "ust downloaded/ and it,s .+G.4D
recommended that you read these7 They are plain text files/ often with ascii:art. Dou can
open them with Eotepad/ &ordpad/ 0()E EF= 1iewer or CltraGdit.
.pdf

2asic ima$e files. These files $enerally contain pictures/ and can %e opened with (do%e

This is a parity file/ and is often used when downloadin$ from news$roups. These files
can fill in $aps when you,re downloadin$ a multi:!olume archi!e and $et corrupted or
missin$ parts. =pen them with @uic#*ar.
