Richland and its neighbors, Kennewick and Pasco, make up the heart of Washingtons Tri-Cities
region, a northwest technology hub surrounded by
farmers fields and sitting just north of the Oregon
border. While the area might sound like no mans
land to outsiders, its actually anything but. The
Department of Energy runs several major operations in the Richland area, and the DOEs Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory is the citys largest employer. That means families can earn a very

Its the Lunar New Year and the Chinese Year of the Horse. The horse
is part of a 12-year-cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac.
These interact with the five elements: wood, metal, fire, water, earth.
2014 is the year of the wood horse, taking over from the year of the water snake.
