Electronic commerce, commonly known as E-commerce is trading in products or services
conducted via computer networks such as the Internet. Electronic commerce draws on
technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer, supply chain
management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data
interchange (EDI), inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems.
Modern electronic commerce typically uses the World Wide Web at least at one point in the
transaction's life-cycle, although it may encompass a wider range of technologies such as e-
mail, mobile devices, social media, and telephones as well.

as of June 2012.The penetration of e-commerce is low compared to markets like the United
States and the United Kingdom but is growing

at a much faster rate with a large number of

FLIPKART- The Online Megastore
Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce company founded in 2007, by Sachin and Binny Bansal
and headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka. According to Alexa Internet, Flipkart website is
one of the top 10 Indian websites. Flipkart has launched its own product range under the
name DigiFlip offering cameras.
Flipkart was founded in 2007 by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, both alumni of the Indian
Institute of Technology Delhi. They had been working for Amazon.com previously. The
business was formally incorporated as a company in October 2008 as Flipkart Online
Services Pvt. Ltd. During its initial years, Flipkart focused only on books, and soon as it
expanded, it started offering other products like electronic goods, air conditioners, air coolers,
stationery supplies and life style products and e-books. The first product sold by them was the
book Leaving Microsoft To Change The World, bought by VVK Chandra from Andhra
Pradesh.
Flipkart now employs more than 4,500 people. Flipkart allows payment methods such
as cash on delivery, credit or debit card transactions, net banking, e-gift voucher and card
swipe on delivery.

MYNTRA-Indias Largest Online Fashion Store
Myntra.com is an Indian online shopping retailer of fashion and casual lifestyle products,
headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka. Myntra was established by Mukesh Bansal, Ashutosh
Lawania, Vineet Saxena in February 2007. All three are IIT alumni, and have worked for
several start-up. Myntra is headquartered in Bangalore and have been funded by Venture
Capital funds like Tiger, Premji Invest, IDG & Accel Partners.
From 2007 to December 2010, Myntra.com was in the business of personalization of
products online. The products ranged from T-shirts, mugs, greeting cards, calendars, key
chains, diaries etc. However, in 2010, the company expanded its catalogue to retail fashion
and lifestyle products. Myntra.com currently offers close to 50,000 products from more than
600 Indian and international brands. It ships about 5 million goods per month by hosting
around 3,000 sellers.
In 2013, Myntra acquired San-Francisco-based Fitiquette, a developer of virtual fitting room
technology.In November 2013, Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan joined forces with online
shopping portal Myntra.com to exclusively launch and manufacture his active lifestyle
apparel and casual wear brand HRX.
