recently become an

neighbourhood
watch area.
Watch coordinator
Susan Konieczny
commented: “We have
experienced low level
crime and disorder for
far too long on Park

this watch we hope to
stop this and make our
area a safer and nicer
place. Not only have
we got to know our
neighbours better, we can get 5% off our insurance

LOCAL BUTCHERS SHOP OPENS
The Focus team is pleased to welcome the
news that Beavan Family Butcher has
opened a new shop on Hillcrest Road.
“The shop has been empty for several months” says
local campaigner James George. “I’m really pleased
that a high quality butcher has opened up here, it is
what we need for our area and just in time for Xmas
too!”
AMBUS
Many residents will remember Ambus, the
community bus which was available to hire by the
community. The bus has been idle for 12 months
and the old committee which used to run the bus
has kindly agreed to transfer the bus to
Abergavenny Community Association .We have
applied for Community Grants to get the bus back
on the road and I am pleased to say that the bus is
now available for hire by calling 01873 853 623.
LITTER PICKER
Many local residents have commented on how much
the litter has improved around the ward.
Abergaveny Town Council have, at James’ request
funded a part time litter picker.
Most of the Lansdown ward is now getting a regular
litter pick at least once a week and this has made a
huge improvement .
However, there are still “hotspots” where rubbish
collects and the Young Offenders have been helping
to clean these areas up.

STREET SURGERY
James George has been holding regular surgeries at
the Community First Resource Centre, Hillcrest
Road.
“Despite good attendances I know that there are
people who do not feel comfortable coming into
this sort of environment”, said James.
“Therefore, in conjunction with Gwent police I have
taken the decision to suspend the surgery in the
Resource Centre and bring the surgery out on the
road. I intend to hold a street surgery street by
street to maximise resident participation so look
out for the notification dropping through your letter
box shortly.”
