 Sampoorna Grameen Rojgar Yojna
(started in 2001). Employment
assurance scheme & jawahar gram
sammridhi yojana were merged in this

 Swampoorna Grameen Swarozgar
Yojana (STARTED IN 1999).
 It is refined version of Integrated rural

 Concept of absolute poverty is relavant to

 Concept of relative poverty is relavant to

 In absolute poverty, we look at basic level,

 In relative poverty, we look at comparison
of people and take bottom 10% as poor.

What is structural
unemployment?
 Unemployment due to structural changes
in the economy – for example, there is
requirement of people in retail sector in
India – but not in traditional sectors.

What is disguised
unemployment?
 When we have surplus manpower in
some work (instead of 5 persons, 7
persons are working on that work).
 It is underemployment.

What is cyclical unemployment?
 There are trade cycles - sometime
boom, sometimes recession. In cyclical
unemployment, we have the impact of
trade cycles on employment.

What is seasonal
unemployment?
 Some industries employ people during a
season only – for example, rice mills,
sugar mills, hotel industry in desert areas
(only during winter), etc. during off
season – there are no jobs for those
people.

What is frictional
unemployment?
 When some workers are temporarily out
of job – or changing jobs – this is
temporary phenomenon.

What is chronic unemployment?
 When it is long term unemployment in a
country, it is called chronic
unemployment.

 Introduction

machinery generates this
