Zec h. 1: 12- 13 O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on
Jerusalem? And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and
comfortable words.
O LORD of Hosts:
Will you give me a sweet answer to an anxious prayer? What good things do
you have in store for me this summer? Will my time of trial soon be over? Will
my children and disciples be protected? Will my addiction be ended? I will trust
during darkness the truths you showed me during the light.
I cannot be far from success if you speak good words and comfortable words. You
go on to tell me what these words are:
Zec h. 1: 14- 17 I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. And
I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for they helped forward the
affliction. Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies Cry yet,
saying, My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet
comfort Zion
You love me so much you cannot bear for me to go astray. Even when I
do, you cannot stand to see me suffer too hard or too harsh. You are displeased
with my haters because they increase my hurt.
Even so, when you seem to have left them the most, you heart is still warm
toward the lost. Help me make __________ and __________ see that. History
shows that whenever you use a rod to chasten us, you break it afterwards. You
feel my pain, even when I so duly deserve it.
You do not forget my lost friends just because you whip them. Every blow
they suffer is evidence of your love. That is the message I want them to know.
Help me bring them to your place to get your peace, for Jesus sake. Amen.

Ps a. 22: 11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
Holy Lord:
Sometimes I feel shut-up in my weakness, and yet shut-out from you. I
looked around but found no help. There was no comfort, even in youno hope,
no peace. Yet I recognize that in all of that, I have only sipped a little of the salt
sea into which my Jesus was thrown. It was not the crown of thorns, the lash of
the scourge, or bearing the cross that made him cry, for
Prov. 18: 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who
can bear?
Jesus, your distress was utter and entire. The darkness of Calvary was not
like an ordinary night that reveals the stars. No, it smothered every lamp in
heaven. So your strong crying and tears was from deep sorrow of soul.
My Jesus, I thank you for bearing the equivalent of my hell. No, not
only that, but you bore that which stood like ten thousand hells, so far as the
vindication of the law was concerned. You rendered in your death-agony an
homage to Gods justice much greater than if the entire world had been justly
doomed and demolished.
When I recognize that, what more can I pray? If my lost friends and family
spend an entire eternity in hell, and then go back there again, you still will not
have gotten out of them what your righteous justice deserves. And yet,
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain; He washed it white as snow.
Let me end this prayer with my thoughts on your cross. The eye of faith
can see enough to feast the soul. I remember that if I lift up Christ, he will draw
all men and women to himself. Even today make it so, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Wednesday, July 23
Eph. 4: 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the
day of redemption.
Father in Heaven:
I am on earth, yet you send your Spirit to live in me. You do not say do
not make him angry. You use a more discrete and delicate term to express it:
grieve not. Help me now to do an intercessory examination of that term.
Who has a heart so hard it is not moved when it recognizes how it caused
others to grieve? Grief is a sweet combination of anger and love. Grief turns the
edge of the anger so it is pointed not against the offender, but against the offense.
Instead of wishing me pain as punishment for my sin, grief looks on my sin as
being the cause of pain. The Spirit grieves even at the fact I injure my own self
because of my sin.
If I anger anyone else I can sense their hostility. But grief begets
compassion, and compassion is like love, and I in turn love those whom I know I
have grieved.
Oh, Holy Spirit! I would not excite your loving anger, nor vex you, nor
cause you to mourn. Yet I have often treated you harshly and ungratefully
ignoring you, really. How often have you sweetly whispered in my ear, Seek the
Saviors love and blood? Let me not ignore your counsel, since that is revival.
Who was it that opened my blind eyes to see a dying Savior? It was the
Spirit of God. Not just in his first strivings, and then his divine quickening, but in
the ensuing sequel as well, he has proven Gods love. How much do I owe to his
instruction, when I think how stupid I have been? You have such patience with
me! It is a wonder Jesus should become a baby. It is as much a wonder the Spirit
of God should become my teacher! I thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Exodus 3: 12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token
unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall
serve God upon this mountain.
God My Creator and Redeemer:
You gave Moses a job, but did not let him go alone. There was tremendous
risk involved. There was stupendous power required. Why would you send us out
in your purpose and then leave us to confront so great an adversary by ourselves?
You do not, because a wise God does not match a stammering Moses with
Pharaoh and all Egypts forces. So you say, Certainly I will be with thee. It is out of
the question to think you send us alone. We count on your presence today!
We are performing your tasks Lord, not ours. Your tasks at work. Your
tasks in our homes. Your tasks in hostile territory. We go with a simple reliance
on your power and not our own strength. We go with a single eye to your glory
and not our own honor and success. It is certain you are with us.
Your sending us requires you to back us up. That is enough. What more do
we need than this? Even if a legion of angels and an archangel were with us we
still might fail, but if you are with us we have to succeedeven in defeat.
Only let us take care to act wisely and worthily of your promise! Let us not
go timidly. Let us not go half-heartedly. Let us not go carelessly. Let us not go
presumptuously. Let us not go ungratefully.
What manner of person ought we to be today if we have God with us. In
company like that, it is only appropriate to play the man. Let us all be like Moses,
and stand before Pharaoh without fear! Let us all be like Moses and proclaim
your fame with faith. Let us all be like Moses, facing fear with confidence in your
faithfulness. We ask it in Jesus name and to his glory alone. Amen.
SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS

Saturday, July 26
Ps a. 123: 1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
Heavenly Father:
I am climbing. On the first step (Psalm 120) I am lamenting. The second
step sees me lifting (Psalm 121) and putting my eyes on the hills. I find rest by
setting my affections on things above. From there I choose to look to you
directly (Psalm 123), because you are the highest of all.
It is good to have you to look up to, because lifting my eyes fixes my heart
and pins my hopes where they should be. My confidence is in you because my
desire is set on you. And the higher I place you Lord, the better it is for my faith.
That height represents power, glory and excellenceall of which are important in
rescuing me from trouble.
I am thankful for spiritual sight, so let me resolve to lift my eyes, because
they do not naturally turn upward. Mostly I am inclined to look inward and hence
downwardanywhere but at you, Lord.
Ps a. 123: 3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us:
I will use my voice as well as my eyes, because that is helpful to my heart. I
will not limit your love by thinking you do not care, or that I am not worthy,
because I claim all of my worth in Christ Jesus on the cross. So I turn my trials
into prayer, because no night is too dark for me to see you if I but look up.
Ps a. 123: 3 for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
My spirit is eager because my need is urgent. I need help quickly so I pray
for it repeatedly. It is bitter to be disrespected, but that is what places me in
fellowship with Christ. My haters have no mercy, so I cry to you. I know that
contempt from the ungodly will turn into reward in the world to come. Even
now it reminds me I am not of this world, but set apart for you. Amen.

HOW TO BUILD A BALANCED LIFE

1) TIMEWORSHIP
Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and
departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
GIVE GOD THE FIRST PART OF EVERY DAY. The first commitment is
to a daily quiet time with God. Our weekly Prayer Diary provides a template for daily
devotions.

2) TITHEWORK
1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as
God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
GIVE GOD THE FIRST DIME OF EVERY DOLLARno questions
asked. Ten percent is a miniscule amount in our affluent society, but it must come
off the top in order to show that God is our priority. We want the blessing of the
firstfruits (first devotion, first dime and first day) to flow out to the rest of our
resources.

3) TEAMWORD
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
GIVE GOD THE FIRST DAY OF EVERY WEEK. You should fellowship
with a group of believers around the word of God every Sunday in our church.

QUALITY CHRISTIANITY INVOLVES THREE THINGS
! Keeping Christ at the center (your core relationship of worship to God)
! Keeping the body of Christ a priority (your congregational relationship of
walking with us)
! Basing beliefs and actions on the mind of Christ (your church relationship in
the Word)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to
God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you
through the Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the
time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
