PROBLEM STATEMENT

In order for this design to meet the

needs of Rinn Foster, the client and
music professional, it is necessary to
incorporate the clients passion for
music as well as futuristic technology
that may become available in ten
years. The client has requested that
the song Feelin Alright by Joe
Cocker be used as the basis of the
design. The client desires a multi-
level loft that is not differentiated
into two foors. Futuristic innovations
are also desired, including green
technology, safety advances, and
technological improvements of
daily activities. These technologies
will be required to meet both the
individual needs of the client and
the overall challenges presented by
the urban context of a loft on the
fourteenth foor of a building in a
major city.

DESIGN CONCEPT
This design concept will capture
the essence of the song, Feelin
Alright, by Joe Cocker. The solution
will exhibit light, unity and variety,
color, form, texture, massing, and
harmony. Light will be exploited
to create emphasis and provide
a variety of values. Unity and
variety will introduce original forms,
surfaces, and proportions much
like Cockers voice and persona.
Color will help to establish both
harmony and contrast. Forms
will be introduced to control eye
movement and emphasize the
volume of the space. Textures,
smooth surfaces and planes will
be used with equal importance
to balance and shape the whole.
Massing will be achieved by
multiplying points of light and highly
textured or patterned elements.
Harmony will be integrated through
compatible though divergent color
and forms.
CONCEALED ACCESS
Sleek, digital architectural glass covers the surface
of the walkway, concealing compartments that
provide easy access plumbing and storage.
DIGITAL GLASS
Digital architectural glass allows an entire
surface to act as a display for movies, photos,
screensavers, or images of nature.
DISCRETE MODULES
Independent modules are prefabricated off-
site and assembled on-site like a kit of parts. This
allows for faster, cheaper, and easier construction.

BIO-FILTRATION
Specially designed house
plants flter water naturally and
effciently through their roots.
INNOVATIVE HEATING
Radiant heat from the water heater is used to
heat air being used for indoor climate control.
SMARTER DOORS
Glass doors slide automatically and provide
touch-screen controls to adjust opacity and
translucence.
