3. a) Draw stress strain diagram for ductile materials and explain the following

b) A specimen of steel 20 mm diameter with a gauge length of 200 mm is
tested to destruction. It has an extension of 0.25 mm under a load of 80 kN
and the load at elastic limit is 102 kN. The maximum load is 130 kN. The
total extension at fracture is 56 mm and diameter at neck is 15 mm. Find,
a) The stress at elastic limit. b) Youngs modulus within elastic limit.
c) Percentage elongation. d) Percentage reduction in area.
e) Ultimate tensile stress.

6. a) What is a ladder friction? Show the forces acting on a ladder resting against a
wall.

b) Crates A and B weigh 200 N and 150 N, respectively. They are connected
together with a cable and placed on the inclined plane. If the angle is
gradually increased, determine when the crates begin to slide. The
coefficients of static friction between the crates and the plane are mA = 0.25
and mB = 0.35.
