THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
This past week I taught out of 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 on Pauls encouragement to Take captive every thought and make them obedient unto Christ. That passage also challenged each of us to become spiritual thinkers and so we are making an effort to not to worry, to be critical or to be worldly. I hope this past week we were peaceful, positive and eternally minded instead. Let that be our prayer daily as we seek to draw closer to Christ as His disciple.
Let me give a brief shout out to all those who committed to praying daily for the unreached of the world. Please be faithful in your effort to expedite the Lords return as we pray for new messengers to rise up and get the Gospel to those who need Jesus.
If you would like to assist in this summers annual church picnic on August 3 rd , then please see the bulletin board in the coat room to find out what kind of help is needed. Or you can speak to Kathryn Albertson directly.
I want to share a few excerpts from the Outlook newspaper devotional page. It reads: In the early 1990s, German researchers studied the effects of aircraft noise exposure on children. They tested a cross-section of children living in the flight path of an old airport, as well as children living in the flight path of a new airport. Here is what they discovered. The children in the area of the old airport scored lower in reading comprehension and in long- term memory skills. For the children living in the new airport flight path, they also exhibited decreases in reading comprehension and long-term memory; Different children, but same results. Heres the kicker! The researchers re- tested the first group of children after the original airport had been closed, and they were absent from the airport noise. They found the children tested better in reading comprehension and memory skills.
So whats the point? Why am I sharing this study? To illustrate that noise affects our ability to process information. What noise has been distracting you lately? Is it screaming children, a busy interstate, a leaky faucet, a big screen television, an iPod playing your favorite songs, etc. Some noise is unavoidable, but we can control many noises.
God encourages us to Be still, and know that I am God. God still speaks in a still, small voice. Are you encountering Him by listening closely? As much as noise can have a negative impact, dwelling in Gods presence- being still before Him-has amazing restorative properties. Listen! Listen! Listen for His voice.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: Just a quick reminder about my announcement of last week! My work schedule is now, basically, Wednesday of each week. I remain available, at other times, for emergencies.
KEENAGERS TRIP IN JULY: On Wednesday, July 30, we are visiting the historic Zoar Village which is located just north of Strasburg, Ohio. The village was settled in 1817 by German Separatists who came to this country seeking religious freedom. The village consists of a number of original residences and public buildings. We will be learning about the Zoarites unique religion and history. Cart transportation, for a limited number, is available for those who might have difficulty walking. The cost, per person, is $13. This includes admission and travel. Lunch will be on your own, at the Manor Restaurant in Strasburg. Following lunch, we will make a stop at Yaggis Cheese House which is located near New Philadelphia. A sign-up sheet is posted and we still have seats available. Get your name on and your money in!
MI DWEEK BI BLE STUDI ES: Our two study groups will resume on September 10. Watch for details.
COMI NG KEENAGER EVENTS: -August 27: A trip to Amish Country. We will be visiting the new David Warther Carvings display, near Sugarcreek (not to be confused with the Warther Museum in Dover) and stopping by our favorite cheese shops. (Watch for details!)
-September 9: The New Horizons Retreat, which is held annually at the North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville. (More information later.)
FI NAL THOUGHT: Dogs are a lot like people. Usually, one in a group is barking at something in particular; the rest are barking at him.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace- based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Church Health and Biblical Balance Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)
Global Evangelism We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon- Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Fellowship and Ministry After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.
Discipleship We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR PURPOSE
WE EXIST TO
Exalt Gods Greatness; Evangelize Gods Work Equip Gods People Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ
OUR MISSION To Love God and Love People! How Can I Respond Today? At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.
