1. DOCUMENT SCOPE
This document aims at defining the contents, the preparation methods and the issue
responsibility of the document called One Line Diagram "OLD".
The procedure consists of a description of the drawing content and of a description of the
reproducing method . The item classification definition (of goods type), created by the
mentioned document, can be found on the related standard document, reported in
chapter 3, Ref. 2.
2. APPLICABILITY
This Standard can be applied to the electrical equipments related to the industrial
processes used by AGIP for both gas and liquid hydrocarbons treatment plants design.
It is also applied to the electrical plants auxiliary systems of the mentioned process,
including the power production plants, the ventilation systems (HVAC), the safety
systems, etc.
The One Line Diagram (OLD) will be the starting document for all the remaining electrical
plan drawings of a plant.

4. RESPONSIBILITY
The Engineering unit in charge of preparation, control and issue of the OLD is the
"PLANT LAYOUT" one. The first preparation is useful for the Unit in charge, which is
going to circulate the document among the company disciplines, for the suitable interface
activities; both in the case of this document being produced by AGIP, or its being
produced through external Contractors..
The Unit in charge of the control and updating of this Standard is STIN.
5. ISSUE SCOPES, PROJECT PHASES AND REVISIONS
This standard, presenting the OLDs description, beats in depth the breakdown into
project phases and, therefore, the logic and the scope for the drawings issue and
revision. The project phases normally applied for the plant design are:
Feasibility study
Basic design
Detail design.
The sequence of project phases and issue scopes presented in the following paragraphs
can be applied to a complex plant, requiring a complete designing. For smaller projects,
the issue scopes can be reduced.
5.1. Issue scope
Within the issue of the different project phases several scopes for the document issue
can normally be identified:
as Draft "B" (not to be filed)
for Comments "C"
for Approval "A"
for Tender Request "R"
for Order "O"
for Construction and Erection "M"
Final "F" (as built)
Notice that, when the customer's approval is needed, it is asked with an OLD issued for
Comments "C"; all eventual client's remarks are then inserted in the document with the
issue scope: Approval "A" which then, after absorbing all client's remarks, becomes the
approved document.

5.2. PROJECT PHASES
The document object of this standard is produced with different contents of the issues
associated to the different project phases, valid for the plants mentioned in the
applicability chapter.
For each project phase, in the following chapters, the minimum content required for every
issue of the document will be clearly stated.
The descriptions of the project phases are the following ones:
a) Feasibility "F"
First issue, internal to AGIP, of the document aiming at the plant feasibility study. It
can be in the draft form, for comments, or already approved (FB, FC, or FA).
b) Basic project "B"
Issue of the document aiming at the Basic design. It is used for the preparation of
the tender. It is possible to extract the first lists, for internal use only, from this issue.
It can be published for comments, for Tender Requests, for orders or as approved
(BC, BR, BA o BO).
c) Detail design "D"
Issue of the document aiming at the plant Detail design. It permits the completing of
the design by al] the document users. It is used both inside AGIP and outside it. It
can be published for comments, as approved, for construction and erection and as
built (DC, DA, DM or DF). In its DF version it is, therefore, an useful document for
the plant operation and is enclosed to the Project Databook.
Summing up, on the OLD there will tee, on the suitable label position, the issue scope
expressed in the following way:

5.3. Revisions
The revisions of the OLD document are reported on the drawing label, in agreement with
the Ref. 4 standard.
The revision number is progressive for the different issues. The revision number should
be incremented with the changing of the project phases or issue scopes. For a pair
"project phase - issue scope" there can be several revisions.
For every revision, every change in comparison with the previous one should be pointed
out on the drawing, and it should be done in agreement with the methods expressed in
the drawing contents chapter, all this should appear on the label. Every indication of
changes related to more distant revisions should be eliminated.

6. CONTENT
This chapter describes the content, the reference symbols and the different compilation
levels related to the issue stage of the document object of this standard.
6.1. Application
The One Line Diagram will present detail information on the Electrical Units (from 900 to
945), as well as on other units having dedicated electrical equipments (i. e. 470 and 480)
in order to allow:
development and finalization of the detail design and of information transfer from the
electrical units to all the disciplines
the completion of the equipment lists,
a preparation of the electrical equipment data sheets,
a completion and modification of the electrical users list,
a draft of the general layout drawings and plans (plot plan and cable routes),
a preparation of the erection procedures, of pre-operational tests, of the start up and
operational procedures,
the operators training,
a preparation of the electrical equipments maintenance procedures ,
a Basic for the calculation of short-circuits protections, charges flow, steadiness and
transient.
6.2. Content description
The One Line Diagrams (OLD) are drawings usually reproducing the main equipments of
the plant electrical unite, and the control boards, both centralized and local, related to the
individual process unite, defined in agreement with the Ref. 2 standard and endowed of a
series of electrical descriptive data about their functioning. The main electrical power
connections are introduced as well, and they are finally completed with all the instruments
and protections for a good plant operation.
The equipments, if possible, will be reproduced in downwards logical sequence.
Besides the OLD report all the real or reserve electrical users, which are fed by the
electrical one fine and the related power expressed in kW.
Notice that in this chapter the MAXIMUM CONTENT OF THE MOST COMPLETE ISSUE
is being described.

This document is CONFIDENTIAL and the sole property of AGIP. It shall neither be shown to third parties nor used for purposes other than those for which it has been sent.
6.2.1 Operative state
All apparatus mentioned in the following chapter should be reproduced in the UN -fed
state or in the position they have in absence of any operation.
For example, the connections of a relays should be reproduced as UN-fed relays; the
apparatus for emergency circuits, alarm, safety, etc., should be reproduced in the state of
a normal functioning of the system.
Trial apparatus and such should be reproduced in normal position and not in trial position.
6.2.2 Diagrams
Every OLD should be completed with the following items:
a) an indication of all the feeding apparatus available (generators, alternators,
accumulators, etc.) including the feeding from external power lines. They should
present all the technical data presented in the next chapters.
b) all fine transformers, all the rectifiers, inverters and converters with the related
technical data.
c) every electrical board belonging to either the electrical and instrumentation units
(series 900 to 990) or belonging to other series of units (i. e. units 470, 480, 700,
etc.).
Identification of the boards and indication of the bars and the objects contained in
the board, by inserting a hatched rectangle including all the branch, the instruments
and internal protections.
Indication of the main technical data related to the bar, as repeated in the next
chapters; such indications should be reproduced above the bar fine, and as near as
possible; we can suggest dividing them into three groups and placing them at the
bar ends.
A schematic representation of the bar branches:
voltage and current transformers (unidentified)
converters (rectifiers, ondographs etc.)
switches, contactors, sectioners and the related execution types
fuses
measure relays and releases
abbreviation of the bar branch "type" (i.e.: TR20) as reported in the Ref. 7
document.
Notice that the branches to electric users, whose one fine diagram is not
represented, should appear just once on the board if they use the same "type". See
the table on the side of the One Line Drawing for a definition of the kind and number
of users making use of the same king of branch.
At the ends of the outlet branch from the boards, from which you can extract
threephase current with or without neuter, the wires number should always appear.

d) Every main connection (cable or bus bar) connecting the different equipments, is
drawn with a hatched fine and with an indication of the wires number.
Other information about the connections are reported in a special chapter dedicated
to them.
e) The main motors fed by medium voltage (power > 150 kW)
f) The equivalent fictious motors" corresponding, for the absorbed power, to the actual
whole of the already defined motors (described in detail in the users table) or being
defined (foreseen), depending on the branch type linked to the interested motor.
g) The users fed by low voltage, in the form of a table
h) The schematic indication of the mechanic al and/or electrical inter-blocks among the
main internal components, by drawing a thin hatched fine and a suitable symbol.
i) The instruments and protections interlinked with the One Line Diagram. Both the
instrument and the function symbolic conventions are comprised, sometimes even
the symbol of the different connections (either cables or signals.
In particular the instruments are organized as follows:
Sensor or primary elements (TA, TV, etc.)
Thermic equipments
Protection relays
Local or on local panel indicators
Eventual local signals or selectors
Information and equipment state on screen (when active mimics are foreseen)
The indication, where possible, of the protected object, by a hatched fine connecting
the protection with the object .
A distinction, with a suitable remand writing, of the board where the protection have
been placed on (if different from the protected board): converters board protections
board control board
j) all the parallel equipments.
k) Besides what is written over the diagrams, there should a]so be the following
general information:

Equipment identification, in agreement with the Ref. 2 document, inserted all
togheter without dividing hyphens and/or blanks
The indication of the current, of the conductors number and the connection
method
The coded abbreviation of all the represented equipments, boards included,
without the internal branches of the single board

Identification and indication of the electrical equipments packages; the
identification should be written below, on the right of the parallelogram defining
the package. Notice that such package defining fine cannot separate the internal
components of a board.
The equipments inside a package do not require any identification only when
there is a drawing by the package designer identifying them; otherwise it is AGIP
responsibility, or the charged Contractor's, to supply such information.
A marking of all the OLD parts which have been changed since the previous
revision. The revision number bringing the changes about should be written,
inside a suitable small triangle.
A marking, with a small cloud or hatched area, of the portions of electrical plant to
be developed in the FUTURE, or as an alternative to the implemented parts of
the plant.
A synthetic description of the bar function, for the lower level bars without
outgoing branches.
Notes.
6.2.3 Connections among equipments
From the OLD reading it is possible to derive the main properties of the connections:
connection composition
current intensity
connection length
The writing should be parallel to the connection, taking care, when possible, to place the
identification on one side of the fine and all other information on the other side,
independently from the fine being orizontal or vertical. Such information, therefore, will
look like this:
Connection Identification

A700001PVA

Connection length

Current Flow

Connection composition
The identification of the connection, when written, should be reported complete with all its
parts and in agreement with the attribution criteria expressed by the Ref. 2 document.

This document is CONFIDENTIAL and the sole property of AGIP. It shall neither be shown to third parties nor used for purposes other than those for which it has been sent.
Help in defining a connection belonging unit can be found in the Ref.6 document.
Notice that connections and cables, in the case of power cables, have the same
identification method since there is always a correspondence between them. Even when
the connection is made up of several parallel cables, these have all the same
identification.
The connection composition supplies the characteristics of the cables making it up
and it should be identified with two or more digits, separated by brackets and by "x", and
which in turn separate the cables number, according to a given order, the conductors
number and the section of each conductor, expressed in sqmm. Of course, if the
connection is made up of a single cable, the first digit and the brackets should be left out.
The current intensity (flow), according to which the connection has been made,
relates to a single one of the cables making up the connection.
It is expressed in Amperes and the amount should be written, followed by an A.
The connection length, expressed in meters, represents the physical distance among
the connected objects and, therefore, relates only to a single one of the cables making up
the connection. The Cable length to buy, so, doesnt correspond to such a value, but to
one of its non-decimal multiple (number of cables in the connection) added to the
endings.
Compilation examples of the descriptive part:
3(2x50) 120A 1.5KM connection of three cables, each one 1500 m long, with 120

In function of the OLD issue phase, the identification can, or noted, be left out as well as
the use of a reduced characteristics definition placed on the side of the connection.
All interlinkings among connections placed on different sheets of the same On Line
Diagram drawing, are represented by an arrow shaped symbol having inside:
Interfaced equipments
Number of the interface drawing sheet
6.2.4 Equipments tables
Next to the main equipment belonging to the One Line Diagram there should be the most
significant characteristics.
We summarize here all equipment requiring this as well as the data to be pointed out;
notice that such information availability changes along with the document issue scope.

6.2.5. Tables of the equipments internal items
Inside the main equipments belonging to the One Line Diagram some relevant items,
whose main characteristics should be reported, are identified. Of course the availability of
such information changes with the document issue scope.
They should normally be placed on the right of the symbol and written on several lines.
Differently from the equipments requirements, such internal items do not ask for the
writing of the complete identification, but they just require the writing of some
characteristics defined as "Items abbreviations in the Basic list", in agreement with the
Ref. 3 document (see Section 5, Block 3A of the marking methods), indicated by the
minus "-" sign, by one or more letters and by one or more digits.
It is important to give the internal items some digits which can distinguish one from the
other; a good method is to give to any main item of the same branch, as first digit, the
same progressive number, taking care to avoid such a progressive to be found in any
other branch of the same board.
For example, if a branch helds a sectioner (main item), a meter, two current transformers
and one toroidal current transformer, and they belong to the branch with the progressive
3, such items have, in the drawing, the following "Items abbreviations in the Basic list":
-Q3 -K3 -CT1 -CT2 -CTR
If the complete identification of every one of the mentioned items were required, these
should be identified as follows:
0920EL001-Q3
0920EL001-K3
0920EL001-Q3CT1
0920EL001-Q3CT2
0920EL001-Q3CTR
In such a way they can be distinguished from every other similar items belonging to the
same board 0920EL001.
The items requiring this and the data to be pointed out are summarized here:

6.2.6. Users tables
On one side of the OLD drawing, over the label, there should be a suitable table to
describe the main characteristics of the users fed by the bars reproduced on every single
sheet.
The same electrical user, therefore, cannot appear on more sheets belonging to the
same One Line Diagram.
Each table should absolutely present:
the board identification,
always written in the complete form,
the branch type, marked in the same way it has been identified on the side of the
rectangle next to the board,
the progressive that, according to the IEC (Publication 750) identification should be
associated to the literal part of the 3A block (see Ref. 3), in order to allow the marking
of the relevant objects composing the branches (i.e. -K3 = relais n 3)
the Nominal power, in Kw, required by the users
the full identification of the power users
a short description of the users
the column and the cell lodging the branch related to the users
a place to show the users undergoing a revision
The users are ordered according to the feeding boards and branch types, taking care to
mention the higher tension boards first (following the same criteria of their layout in the
drawing).
The progressive associated to each branch should be different, inside the same board;
there is no need for them to be in a growing order in the table. Some numbers can be
skipped.
If the space planned in the drawing to held the table were not big enough to describe all
the users required by the One Line Diagram, it is possible to continue the same table on
the first available space above, on the right, next to the already written table portion.
At the end of the table there should be a Note referring to the project document
presenting all the branch types to be applied for the mentioned project.
Notice that the table should not be filled in for the power users inside a Package, unless
this is made up by a single equipment. Often we show, as a Package user, the local
distribution small panel belonging to the Package itself.
In figure I of this document there is an example, not complete, of such power users table
compilation; the rim of the table is not taken into account, since it must be adapted to the
available space and to the instrument it is produced by.

6.3. Issues content during the different project phases
The contents the OLD document should have in the different issues corresponding to the
project phases mentioned in chapter 5, are described here:
a) The OLD issue aiming at the "Feasibility Study", usually made at the end of the first
preparation, reports only:
the main boards and equipments,
the boards and equipments identifications,
the main connections,
the abbreviations,
the current type and the tension,
the most relevant electric charges,
the esteemed data of the not yet available charges (equivalent motors).
Being this an issue valid for the plant feasibility study, it doesn't require any other
identification nor any table of the fed users.
b) The following issue, called "Basic design", compared to the Feasibility study should
present the following additional data::
the total power boards,
the complete properties of the bars,
all the connections among the boards,
the connections identifications and the related properties
the power users data, even if not completely identified, required by the tables.
an indication of the bars branch types and the related codes,
an indication of the protections ,
an indication of the required instruments and control systems,
an indication of all the available feedings,
all the available properties of the main equipments.
c) The final issue, called "Detail design", which is usua lly introduced in the Users
Handbook, if compared to the Basic design should present the following additional
data:
all existing equipments,
all the power users data with the related identifications, when required,
the final attribution of a column and a cell to every fed user, reserves included,
all the comments, notes, information needed by the electrical system
management.
Of course the intermediate issue scopes, within a project phase, present more and more
complete contents as we get nearer the final scope of the mentioned stage.
In the OLD drawing label there should always be the issue code, identified in agreement
with the coding presented in Ref. 5:
FB, FC, FA, BC, BR, BA, BO, DC, DA, DM, DF,
indicating, in such a way, the project phase and the scope which brought to the issue of
the drawing.

7. GRAPHICS
7.1 General description
In general the OLD should present, in a schematic way, the plant feeding sequence
reproducing, as much as possible, the logical order according to which every bar and
every user is fed and keeping, where possible, the subdivision deriving from the plant
layout.
The best possible clearness of interpretation should be guaranteed, therefore the
equipments should not be too concentrated and the connections crossings should be
minimized.
It is a good idea, whenever possible, to group the items located in the same plant area.
If, sometimes, it would appear as suitable to give some kind of border to the objects
belonging to the same area, we suggest marking it with the codes and definitions
identified for every single project, in agreement with Ref. 2
Identical or parallel items or plant portions will always be drawn with the same detail.
The board identifications and the related abbreviations are always written inside a small
rectangle, placed across the upper dine of the top left corner of the rectangle enclosing
the board components, using bold not underlined letters 4 mm high , while the eventual
identification of a package should be written in the bottom right corner of the related
border.

7.2 Formats
The drawings are generally made in Al format and, if necessary, on several sheets.
Before making the OLD on different sheets it is useful to consider whether the A0 format
could contain the entire One Line Diagram; this solution could be the best.
In the case the chosen format could not contain the entire One Line Diagram, it is
necessary to divide its content in such a way to have the higher tension bars on the first
sheet and in the second one (and in the following ones) the lower tension bars and the
continuity.
Of course all information reported on the A1 and A0 formats should respect the space
occupation criteria imposed by the Ref. 4 document, besides the drawing should be
numbered in agreement with the rules expressed by the Ref. 1 document.
In the case the One Line Diagram is made on several sheets, the graphic
correspondence among the references to the different sheets should be respected, in
order to make the drawings sequential reading easier. We also suggest to keep the
incoming above and the outgoing below, as long as this rule is not in contrast with a good
reading of the drawing.
7.3 Symbols
The graphic symbols to adopt for the compilation of the One Line Diagram are presented
in the Ref. 3 standard document.
The Ref. 5 document is the standard symbols library for OLD, CAD produced.
All the equipment and connection symbols introduced into the One Line Diagram can be
drawn with different thickness, according to their being subject to high, medium or low
tensions the texts, protections, and all instruments in general, as well as the discharges,
the grounding connection, with all its objects, and the graphic representations in general
(the star, the cable endings, etc.) are excluded from this rule. The transformers should
keep the thickness required by the primary tension value.
In the case the graphic instrument doesn't make it easy to use different thickness, the
whole drawing made in a single thickness is accepted, with the only exception of the
bars, which should be no less than 0.5 mm thick.
Thickness are going to be defined in the following chapter.
Also the symbols sizes vary according to the related tension level.
Made I the size of the symbols for the lowest level tension, the increasing ratios are the
following ones:
Medium/High tension 1.1

7.4. Lines
The lines making up the bars, equipments, branches and power connections symbols can
be made in the following thickness:
bar
board
border
equipment
connections &
branch
High/Medium tension 0.8 0.2 0.2
Low tension 0.5 0.2 0.2
Where the available graphic instrument doesn't permit an easy subdivision of the
thickness, at least the graphic representation required for low tension should be used.
The bars and the branches lines sould be continuous while the bordering lines of the
same should be hatch and point, with 10 mm long hatches.
The connections are represented with a 5 mm thick hatched fine.
The instrumentation and protections borders, with an indication of the enclosing board,
should be hatched (3 mm) and 0.2 mm thick.
The bus bars should be represented by three parallel lines, with the central one having
the thickness required by the equal tension connections, while the two external ones will
be 0.5 mm thick, and be 0.8 mm far from the central one.
All the instruments should be represented with 0.2 mm thick lines.
The lines representing the connections on the One Line Diagram should always be drawn
horizontally or vertically. When there are crossings among lines, the vertical one should
be interrupted, not the orizontal one.
In any case, the instrument lines will always be interrupted when crossing other lines.
The Package borders are made with 5 mm hatches followed by two dots placed in a 5
mm space. Such borders and the small clouds, or the rectangles of the future parts,
should be drawn with 0.2 mm thick lines.

8. ESTRACTIONS
In this chapter all information which can be extracted from the mentioned document, and
initially reported into synthetic print-offs, called working printings, are identified (see
figures 2 and 3). These present only the data associated or held in the graphic part. Such
data can then be transferred to following documents. The most important documents
deriving their first information from the mentioned printings are:

the equipments list
the electric users list
the cables list.
In the case of computer-based tools used to produce the mentioned drawings, we could
think, besides the extraction of suitable files contributing to the production of the said
Iists, of extracting also those information attributed to the equipments in the related
tables, in order to make up the basis for a possible automatic production of the
equipments data sheets.
Information that can be derived from the OLD are:
Equipments: equipment identification
abbreviation
goods description or service
belonging package
OLD identification, sheet and revision
coordinates in the sheet
electric users
Connections connection identification
connection composition
current intensity (flow)
tension level
connection length
origin (from)
branch type (if present)
end (to)
arrival type (if present)
OLD identifications, sheets and revisions
Electric users: all the data in the table.
