Web Page
Description:
This is a web page I designed for a logo I created.
Date:
6/28/14
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 01
Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Notepadd++
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience.
Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.
Process:
I created this webpage using Notepad++. The first thing that I did
was download a template from I-learn for CSS and HTML. From there,
I opened up my logo in Photoshop and used the eyedropper tool get
the color code for the orange that I used. I then went into my CSS
file and changed the overall background to be this color. I decided to
match the text to the same color, so I changed all text color codes
to the same orange. The next thing that I decided was that white
should be the text background since it is in the logo. I then played
around in Photoshop, trying to find a darker orange to use for the
heading background. If you notice the layers of the webpage match
the logo (orange on top, then white, then orange). Next, I made the
border thicker. I then changed the font type in CSS. The last thing
that I did was edit my HTML text.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to
keep links intact.
Process:
I started off by drawing four sketches of what I thought the final
product could turn out like. From there I took elements that I liked
from all four and created a fifth sketch that I would then use to
create my final product. I used three triangles, because it followed
the rule of odds. Each triangle has 3 sides and there are 3 triangles
in each grouping. I put this smal design in two different areas to help
add balance. I tried hard to evenly distribute white space. I also used a
circle, because circles have one side and it changes things up from block to
block with some curves. The image, logo, and content were provided.

A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Course/Instructor:

Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate 4 quality images, 1 of them with a text wrap
Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three
paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Process:
The first thing that I did was simply decide what exactly I was going
to do a brochure for. I thought it would be fun to create one for
the band that I wanted tot start. Next, I started to brainstorm on
name ideas and using a band name generator online, I came across
The Mainfold. The next thing that I did was start to think about
logo ideas. I started creating a guitar from an image pulled of the
internet for fun and then decided to use that for the logo. I then
decided that I needed to decide what my brochure would be about.
I had just finished writing a song and decided that could be part
of it. Upon typing up the lyrics, I realized I had not yet hit the 250
comment requirement. I decided to go ahead and start creating
the brochure and then I could add whatever text I wanted into the
layout. I first added the logo into an InDesign page and aligned it
how I wanted. I decided to generally replicate the same layout from
one of the first brochure assignments. I would put 3 images on the
side, stuff in the middle, and another image on the other side. For
the 3 images I decided to use the instruments that would be found
in the band (guitar, drums, and bass). Since the song was the main
point of the brochure, I put it in the middle. I then thought about
coming up with an album concept for the last side, but decided that
wasnt the right direction to go. Upon listening to a band called The
Early November, I realized that they used a record label company
called Drive-Thru-Records. I realized that a lot of my favorite bands
also use them (Something Corporate and New Found Glory are two).
I thought it would be so cool to also sign with them. From there
I decided to make the last section about Drive-Thru-Records and
create a fake story about me signing with them (kind of a history of
the band). Lastly I put an amp on the back.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Process:
This was probably my favorite designing so far. The first thing that
I did was selected a company to work with. Recently I went golfing
and was reminded of an idea that I once had for a golf ball tracking
company. I have recently been doing research on my ideas for it
when we got the assignment. I thought it would be fun to make a
logo for this company idea of mine. From there I learned how to use
Adobe Illustrator in class. I then started to do research on popular
golf brand logos (Titlist, Callaway, etc.). From there I practiced
sketching these logos. I then took the basic concepts that I liked
the most and tried to mimic them. The issue was I needed a
name. I came up with a few name ideas and then ran them by my
roommates. They too liked Echo golf the best (like echolocation).
From there I tried to think of things that symbolized golf and
tracking. For tracking, I decided that radars represented tracking
and bats represented echolocation. From there I decided to do a
design with little images like Titlist or Callaway golf (middle logo),
and two similar ones. The similar ones would feature a radar and
a bat. I pulled images of the two from the internet and then used
Adobe Illustrator shape and pen tools to recreate the images

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
The first thing that I did was decide what to create a new logo for.
I decided to finally create a logo for the candy bar company that I
started after inventing a candy bar in 8th grade. I then started to
research other candy bar logos. I decided that the traditional logo is
just words with a primary and secondary color. I decided that I would
mimic every other candy bar, despite this not being all that unique.
I originally used blue and white, but then decided (after getting my
roommates opinions) to go with orange (represents peanut butter
and caramel). I created the logo using illustrator. From there I placed
the logo into InDesign. I created business cards that were 3.5 by 2.
From this point I followed the rubric to determine what information
to include and I used the examples for inspiration.

Letterhead
Description:
A montage of Harrison ford in Patriot Games as Jack Ryan
contemplating events and people after stoping a terrorist attack in
London.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles
Select good quality images
Process:
The first thing I did was look through the examples on I-learn. While
looking, I thought that the image with the man in glasses looked
a little like Harrison Ford at first glance. From there I decided to
use him as the main focus of this project. The second thing that
I did was look up Harrison Ford movies. I wanted to find a movie
that wasnt Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Patriot Games is one of
my favorite movies and books, so when I saw it I decided to use
it. From there, I looked up pictures of Harrison Ford from the movie
that I could use. Upon seeing his picture, I thought that it looked
like he was contemplating things. From there, I got the idea to do a
montage of him contemplating people and events surrounding the
terrorist attack at the beginning of the book/movie. I then found
images of the people/events that I felt best depicted major points
of the movie. I imported these pictures into Photoshop and flipped
images to help give a good flow. I placed the images in a circle,
putting the more important images at the top of the circle due to
his gaze in that directionn.

Objectives:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design
Use text boxes for layout in Word.
Insert and edit images in Word.
Process:
I scanned the logo from a Colorado Avalanche hockey poster, and
then used a word background remover to remove the background
from the logo. I then started thinking about an event involving
the Avalanche that I could great an Ad for. Looking at there
website, I saw a charity dinner that they often do. I came up with
a random date, time, and fair price to participate in the dinner. For
the location, I picked the areana that they play in. I then came up
with some simple additional information to include and pulled their
website URL for a call to action. I pulled an identical red to that in
the logo for the background. I did the same with the blue and silver
for other design elements. I then used boxes to contain all the
information and tried to place things ia visably appealing locations.
I then decided to add some purple and yellow to get a big split
complementary color scheme.

Google Nexus 5 phone camera
Photoshop
InDesign
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills.
Use a camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool
on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image
Use layers to design text
Print with full-bleed margins.
Process:
I started off by taking pictures of my roommate, using
my phone and its blur image feature. From there I used
Photoshop to enhance the image. Enhancements primarily
consisted of improving color quality. From there the image
was put into InDesign, where I used a famous quote from
Rocky Balboa to help give a senior yearbook type feel.
I pulled colrs from the brick and decided that the ones
liked best were borderline teal. I the decided to use a more
appealing teal with orange to give a split complementary of
teal, orange, and red (from the shirt in the photo).
