A classroom teacher plays an indispensable role in the formation of the personality of a
student. Students spend a longer period of a day in a school amongst their peers. Teachers are the adult guidance available to them in such environment. The influence of the teachers plays a major role in the evolution of character of a student. That is why it is said that TEACHERS ARE INDISPENSABLE. Without their effective guidance and support it is almost impossible for a student to transform into a better human-being.
Teachers are a symbol of authority. Students respect this authority they hold and follow their lead without question. Teachers contribute to the effective development of a student through their teachings and values. They emphasise the importance of knowledge and discipline. They identify the strengths and weaknesses of a student and help them to excel in their chosen field. With experience, a good teacher is quick to recognize psychological issues of a student and takes adequate steps to help the student overcome it.
Teachers imbibe good qualities like co-operation, patience, perseverance, tolerance and discipline in a student by providing a stimulating and well-ordered classroom climate which nourishes these qualities.
Teachers also play a very major role in the life of a student. That of a FRIEND. There is a very special bond between the two and a good teacher effectively wins the confidence of a student thereby encouraging the student to share their thoughts and problems with them.
An average student in the hands of a good teacher can perform well in all aspects. That is the power a teacher. Teacher is the first inspiration of every child.
We all know that Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnans birthday is celebrated as Teachers Day. I would like to share with you how this came about.
Coming from an extremely humble background, Dr Radhakrishnan began his teaching career at the Madras Presidency College. He slowly rose to the level of becoming first VICE PRESIDENT and second PRESIDENT of the country.
After he was elected as President of India some of his students and friends asked him if they could celebrate his birthday. His reply was this: "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5 September is observed as Teachers' Day."
The best lesson that we can learn from our great teachers is that we should always be humble in life.
