Brochure
Description: A two sided duplex folding brochure
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I setup my folds in Adobe InDesign, indicating where I
want the 1 fold to make and what it will cover, and what the fold will leave exposed. I used
white circles within the document to create repetition and fow throughout, to connect all
the spaces. Attaining the pictures for this brochure was easy, I took the pictures myself,
and I took them off of the original website (pathtoprettynails.com) to show what the view-
ers will see if they visit. I also took a screenshot of the website itself and pasted that in the
brochure, to familiarize the viewer with what the actual website layout looks like. The logo
that is placed on the front and back of the brochure was created in Adobe Illustrator, and I
used the shape building tool to mix all the shapes into one visible logo.
Message: Young and older women should visit pathtoprettynails.com to view tutorials on
various nail art creations.
Audience: Young and older women, at least 14+ years old.
Top Thing Learned: I had to relearn the value of white space, the original draft had white
space scattered all over the inside of the brochure, but I fxed that.
Color scheme and color names: Light blue and white, monochromatic.

Buisness Card
Description: Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created
logo.
Process: I created the logo using simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I took two shapes,
and using the shape builder tool I cut out the original rectangle to create the L looking
shape. I decided to make my frst page a letterhead. I position the placed logo in the top
right corner of my letterhead. I made sure to keep it at least .5 away from the edges. I
then typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the right hand side
of the letterhead. I added in a couple blue lines to unify the information and get some rep-
etition. On the second page I used the rectangle tool to create the front and back outline
of my business card. I copied/pasted the logo and contact information on the page. I kept
the logo and contact information about the same size as the information on the letterhead.
Programs/Tools used: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
Message: The company is actually an online blog dedicated to creating tutorials for vari-
ous nail designs when using nail polish.
Audience: Women, between teens and adults
Top Things Learned: Shapes are the base to every design.
Color Scheme: Monochromatic; blues

Montage
Description: an inspiration image made by blending two or more pictures together and
adding typography.
Process: I chose what I wanted my message to say, and decided I wanted to incorporate
baby animals with adult animals. I found an image online of a baby lion cub and cropped
it to size. I then took an image of an adult lion showing how ferce it is by roaring, and
took a mask to it and layered onto the original baby lion image. I then faded it out a big to
blend it more with the background. I typed the image using the color from the baby lions
fur, and used two fonts for the message.
Message: I wanted to express the importance of self belief, and how it is important to be
able to be confdent in oneself.
Audience: Anyone who lacks confdence in their life. Perhaps teens or young adults.
Colorized/Filter: applied on the adult lion, used the lighter flter in photoshop.
Color Scheme: complementary, lime and gold.
Top thing learned: How to gradually blend two images

Logos
Description: Three logo variations for the same website.
Process: I went and looked on Google to look at shapes of nails and nail polish bottles.
I attempted to trace with the pen tool, but I learned that it was much easier to use the
shapes tool to create the solid lines I wanted for the logos. It was also helpful to create
a shadow on the objects for the 3D like affect. The only other element I used was typog-
raphy and color. I wanted blues to be the main color, to shake it up sense people usually
think of nail polish as red.
Programs/Tools used: Adobe Illustrator.
Message: a girl can do and create a lot of new designs simply with nail polish.
Audience: young adult and adult females.
Top Thing Learned: The value of shapes to create objects.
Color Scheme: I tried to stick with no more than 1 color, monochromatic.
Top/Middle/Bottom Logos: Ar Bonnie, Sans Serif
How Logo Represents Company: Favorites: Logo 1 (4) Logo 2 (7) Logo 3 (2) My favorite
was the bottom (3rd) logo.
Event Ad
Description: A partial bleed event add promoting families and their kids to attend the Dis-
neyland Amusement Park.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I found a picture within the LATINA magazine with a
picture of Rapunzel and a little boy, but when I scanned it using my scanner at home,
the pixels were not high quality. I then chose a different picture in the LATINA magazine
of Minnie and a little girl and decided to scan it in using the scanner in the Spori Lab on
campus. The quality was much better and showing Minnie in the picture made it more
obvious that the fier was promoting Disney Land.
Message: Parents should take their kids and build memories with them by vacationing at
Disney Land.
Audience: Parents and kids.
Color scheme and color names: Blue and Orange, complementary
Top Thing Learned: The font, any font, if it is above 12pt, will show up huge when printed
out on a paper

Flier
Description: A leadership fier in black and white to promote leadership among graduates
at college
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): Originally I sketched the fier with circles encompass-
ing the text instead of boxes. I realized the circles would not be the most professional
look for a fier like this. While using InDesign I used the boxes and rectangles and used
different shades of gray that matched the picture below, repeating the gray scale. First
the text and the Title message were swapped (Text on left, title on right) but I realized we
were trained to read a paper left-to-right, making the message almost backwards. Once I
made that change, the fier had a better fow and the alignment was not so distracting.
Message: I am attempting to reach out to graduates who have the potential to fll leader-
ship positions, and showing them how the conference can help them through this fier.
Audience: Recent graduates between ages 22-30 years old.
Top Thing Learned: The importance of placement and fow.

Photo Design
Description: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills, incorporating color
into a poster with original photo.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I knew I wanted to do a poster with nature, some type
of plant or earthy feel. Originally I took a picture of a small fower resting on a rock that
I found, the bright yellow and grey were very nice, but then I realized it looked too sim-
ple and cliche. So I took another picture of a bush zoomed in, the seeds blossoming in
the bush looked like pine cones on a pine tree, and I liked the spiked pines spreading
throughout the picture. It was very vibrant, and the picture was not simple at all like the
original. I uploaded the picture in Adobe Photoshop and used the vibrancy tool to make
the colors stand out more, and I also used the sharpening tool to emphasize the pines
sticking out. I added text in the upper corner, leaving white space in the bottom left corner.
Message: I wanted to make a message about nature. I think nature is very beautiful and
we can simply learn a lot from it. I found an Albert Einstein quote online and decided I
would use that with whatever picture I decided to use. I was attempting to express the
beauty and complexity that can come from nature.
Audience: Busy college students who maybe need time to stop and meditate, and need a
place to relax and release their mind.
Top Thing Learned: Composition in a picture, the picture would have looked awful if I cen-
tered the seeds in the plant right in the middle.
Color scheme and color names: Complementary, Red and Green

Web Page
Description: A webpage to showcase a personally designed logo
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had
never seen or written any HTML/CSS. It was interesting to see how you could make a
web page by only using a simple text editor. It was useful to have something check to
see if I had any problems with my code. After I marked up all my content and inserted my
image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from
my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and
using the eyedropper tool. I also used padding around the logo and text so that they
would not be too close to the edge of the web page. This was one of the most challeng-
ing parts of working with CSS.
Message: To visit my blog Path to Pretty Nails to learn about nail polish art tutorials
Audience: Women and young women who like to paint their nails
Top Thing Learned: how to change fonts and colors in CSS
Color scheme and color hex: monochromatic, #16e6f9
Title Font Families & Category: Trubuchet MS, Sans-serif
Copy Font Families & Category: Trubuchet MS, sans-serif
Changes made to the CSS: I changed the font families, and I also changed the colors to
match my logo.
